I would agree with Ben , from what i see with my own eyes, and people i know or went to school with. I was laid off 6 months ago, because the company ran out of work. I applied for unemployment then went out job hunting , i was working within 2 weeks. I know several people sitting on their ass ,cause they dont even look for work, they spend all day looking for dope, then cry around "i cant find a job" I know their are many others who may actually try to get work.

Umm no, employers do not always choose the least productive workers, because they do not always know, and if a union is involved, a worker that has been there for ten years but does not do anything, can and will bump someone who has been there for less time in the same union, and who does more work. In short the unions prevent the least productive people to loose their jobs, because the higher paid worker means more money for the unions.

Right now my neighbors who have no job have been watching tv and playing loud music since 7 am, its now 6pm and its still going on. They have been doing this for the past 4 months. They are on welfare and probably have housing assitance.

They often lay off people who haven't been with the company as long, but are working towards gaining benefits and vacation time. Many of the companies have adopted high turnover rates in order to keep from paying top pay and benefits. Of course it's about the bottom line, that's why when you have to cut back due to shifts in the market, you want to keep your best workers and get rid of the (relatively) worst. When seniority comes into play is in work places where (union) contracts protect those who have survived long enough to qualify for such benefits.

I would agree with Ben , from what i see with my own eyes, and people i know or went to school with. I was laid off 6 months ago, because the company ran out of work. I applied for unemployment then went out job hunting , i was working within 2 weeks. I know several people sitting on their ass ,cause they dont even look for work, they spend all day looking for dope, then cry around "i cant find a job" I know their are many others who may actually try to get work.

I agree with some of your points but not all. Rich conservatives and many of their middle class followers do seem to have a disdain for every day people. Its atonishing how much they dislike regular people yet take handouts for their corporations without blinking and eye. As for the crash, it wasnt simply because of tax cuts for the rich. Our whole system became choked with debt. Debt incurred by all economic classes. We are seeing the resulting credit collapse.

In that time, I led the company in billings for 3 straight years, LOWEST cancellation rate in the entire company (2.5%), and trained EVERY new employee as my boss stated I was the one who did things right. I think Stein was probably right about this... his observations are based on his own experience, and he has no reason to lie. Common sense would say that the lazy/hard-to-get along with would have a harder time finding/keeping employment. LukeShetler, I haven't seen the documentary you mention, but Stein scored a perfect on his SAT and was the valedictorian of his law class at Harvard or Yale or something. The dude is actually very very smart.

I'm not really sure how Ben Stein was ever viewed as an intellectual. He made a successful documentary and it's a load of shit. Maybe the most infuriating thing to watch for somebody with even a shred of scientific knowledge. He basically says that science is a conspiracy and that the field of Biology is completely wrong and that he's right. He makes ridiculous straw man arguments, asks loaded questions of his scientist guests, and edits all of the responses in disgusting and misleading ways.

Umm no, employers do not always choose the least productive workers, because they do not always know, and if a union is involved, a worker that has been there for ten years but does not do anything, can and will bump someone who has been there for less time in the same union, and who does more work. In short the unions prevent the least productive people to loose their jobs, because the higher paid worker means more money for the unions.

Remember, Ben Stein's innacuracy is in that he seems to be saying unemployed people were laid off because they deserve it and not because companies lay people off due to their ability to manipulate workers into producing much more than they ever had for the same pay through fear of starvation. I will never defend Ben Stein himself; Expelled was an abomination against science and reason. My main point was that TYT did not actually comment on what was said but who said it. You on the other hand have made some credible points regarding flaws in what Stein actually said. For this I thank you. I feel we have found a common ground in recognizing what Stein said is not actually what is happening, but would be nice if it was fact. And someone should punch him.

We have great fossils showing the transition from amphibians to fish. We also have fossils showing snakes evolving from lizards and whales from land mammals....even today many whales & snakes still have small bones were there rear legs once were......The fossils show these legs slowly disappearing over time.
Even if we had zero fossils..... evolution is proven with genetics and molecular evidence.
I highly recommend you study up on the facts.

They often lay off people who haven't been with the company as long, but are working towards gaining benefits and vacation time. Many of the companies have adopted high turnover rates in order to keep from paying top pay and benefits. Of course it's about the bottom line, that's why when you have to cut back due to shifts in the market, you want to keep your best workers and get rid of the (relatively) worst. It would be foolish to lay off workers that work hard and get along. When seniority comes into play is in work places where (union) contracts protect those who have survived long enough to qualify for such benefits.
And try telling your boss "leave me the fuck alone" and see how long you still have a job.

Tax incentives, offer job stability to members of minority groups (not saying this is wrong or not warranted just pointing out the complexity of the issue). Also, there are cases where bosses will eliminate competition or even people they suspect as whistleblowers. It's cute to see idiots act like an issue is so simple, when it's not.

These people have over generalized, and Ben Stein was not let go from his job because Free Credit Score is a scam. It had to do with the employer's policies, and they considered it a conflict of interest. If you really want to know what Ben Stein has done, check wikipedia, not this stuff!
