The baby isn't dead, it's been infected. This isn't a zombie movie the same basic principles work/don't work. They're infected with a virus that takes over there body but don't kill them. The baby finally gets taken over by the virus and kills it's mother

You can still see through the door to the baby's room on the other side; you can see the cot.

Maybe her lover's not dead? He only hit his head once. But I don't think she's being killed; she screams for too long the same way. That would stop/change
