I came back here just to leave a comment and say how beautiful and inspiring this video is, it's probably the 30rd time that I watch, and it gets better and better. This is a masterpiece, man. This is truly a perfect tag.
Hi Jay, this is about the 10th time I've come back to listen to this. If you want to dress up as a woman and pretend to be around 50 years old, I would marry you. X

This was a very risky song to do. I am a huge fan of movie sountracks, especially the Sweeney Todd one. I also thought this might have sounded a bit strange in a choir set-up. To be honest, this was really good. I love how your passion in the music started out strong, but it just kept getting stronger, and that is the most important thing in music, i think; is the passion you put behind what you are playing/singing. I'm impressed that you can hit every one of the four parts! This is very creative, artistic, and well made. Congrats! I'm going to share this with all my old a cappella buddies :)
This is beautiful. I don't care how you made it, or that I'll never get to see this "chorus" in person. I wouldn't mind more of this kind of thing... :D
I listened with my laptop speakers and it was still beautiful. Your art is brilliant, you're special, and it shines in your music. I would love to hear a "Wicked" tag from you - I'm sure you know it? I know it's cliche, but your own arrangement of Defying Gravity would be fascinating to listen to.
Seriously this is one of the best works I have heard on Youtube since I joined. You and Ronald Jenkees have been my favorite video uploaders. Keep it up bro!!!
Fantastic job! Also, I enjoy your responses to the less than polite comments. I think the less musically inclined do not realize the monumental task it is to create a 32 track song and maintain balance, intonation, diction. It takes a ton of hard work plus true raw talent that you are either born with or not. You obviously were born with an amazing ear and sense of pitch, and I am so utterly impressed (as usual). Keep making music, you inspire so many people. Kudos from a fellow EWVCer.
Hi I just signed up on YouTube just so that I could write comment here :-) I love it, love it, love it. I would love to see you do Samuel Barber - Adiago for Strings ;-) but then I remembered that it was mostly instrumental :-)

@02Jonah i know, he's amazing. you can tell how much work he put to this, he had to do the whole song many times and , you know, figure out what to sing in each. kind of hard to explain, but it's amazing
Love all those men singing me that beautiful song! Little eye scratch one of them did, so cute! I just feel like no one is gonna harm me! Nice lullabye. THANKS!
4 voices would probably be better, I feel like there is too much happening here. Never the less, still way more amazing than anything I've ever done/heard!
@rehpotsirhic was that a serious question? because if not what he does is he records one vid at a time and puts them all together to produce the major harmonies lol its pretty amazing though i agree
What programs do you use? I've got a Mac and have been just fooling around on Garage Band to not much success. Seem to be having issues tuning to myself (I know it sounds funny). I'm sure I'm missing some basic effects as well no doubt. Help please?

i showed this to my choir class. They have a history of thinking that their low numbers is an excuse to not sing right. After seeing that one person could do something like THIS, they wanted to find out how much eleven people could do. None of them are as talented as this guy here, but it finally got them to try. thank you!
I have been watching your videos all night. I found your page linked from an auto-tune the news video. What you do with these choir pieces is what music was meant to "FEEL" like. I have goosebumps and I can't stop listening. Your gift my friend is one that even after the 17 years I have been playing music I am in complete awe of. @TheFaithfulsongbird On the contrary, although my comment may have been double edged, it was meant as a compliment. I agree that this is a very good work that many in the multitracking world can take note of. I believe a new trend may be started here...
I'm always saying music is my religion, and I am just falling in love with what technology can be used to do such cool things!! What you do is just amazing. And the fact that you're willing to share for free is so beautiful. Thank you for being part of the human race.
Just wondering have you heard the track 'Hodja' by Todd Rundgren, it's off his C.D. titled 'Acapella'. It's a bit of fun, nothing as complex as what you've done here, but you could really pull it off ! The C.D. is fab incidently, have a listen !
What's your vocal range Jays, you must span 4 octaves at least, it certainly looks like it in the clip. Have you had singing lessons or is it naturally you.........you lucky thing x
I couldn't help but read the above comments that were made about Sondheim. In Mr.Pickle's defense, (and I say this as both a Sondheim fan and as an avid barbershopper) Sondheim *did* write the original. Saying that Sondheim contributed least to this is... well... I don't know if I agree with that, because he wrote the song. He wrote what inspired Mr. Pope to do the arrangement. So perhaps he is more deserving of credit than what you are acknowledging here. But I don't think this is plagarism.
@Jastro88 None of that matters. He crossed the line that I should be ashamed of myself for not giving credit for Sondheim, as if he would have ever seen this video, give me a break. He's had enough recognition already. I worked on this video for about 32 hours, and I have no idea how long it took Jeremiah to compose it. Probably longer. I only bothered to respond to that guy because his unspoken pretentious were offensively incorrect.
@Barbershop666 Fair enough. Sondheim is adored by many; there is no harm in spreading the wealth, as they say. It is certainly a nice arrangement. Musical Theatre and barbershop / a Capella are different arenas. In my personal opinion, Sondheim has written and arranged some lovely pieces that would rival anything in barbershop that I've heard. But again, the two are different art forms, and it's difficult to compare them fairly. Like... Vocal Spectrum vs Louis Armstrong? I dunno. Both good.
@Barbershop666 Yes. I understand. We are all affected by different music in different ways. And I'm sure many of our fellow barbershoppers would agree with you. For me... that might not be true. But we are all different in our tastes and that is not a bad thing.
At any rate, I enjoy your videos, and I hope to meet you in person and share some tags/songs at some point. I sing with the Toronto Northern Lights... we'll be there in KC this summer. Maybe we'll see you there.
@Barbershop666 It is, quite simply, poor form not to accredit the author of the work.. Rather than being offended, simply correct your error of omission. That would be a good demonstration of maturity. Stop defending your faux pas.
Why is Stephen Sondheim not credited anywhere on this page? He is the writer of this song. Not Jeremiah Pope. Not Jayson Wilson. But Stephen Sondheim. Not Danny Elfman or Eric Whitacre. But Stephen Sondheim. You should be ashamed that you have not credited him. It is plagiarism of the worse kind.

@91dylpickle Stephen Sondheim is the writer of the general melody. Jeremiah pope grabbed it, reshaped it, and gave it a harmonial structure Sondheim could never dream of conceiving. YOU should be ashamed for tree hugging your love for musical theatre, and getting hung up on me not caring enough to give credit to someone who's already famous, and contributed the least to the making of this video.
@Barbershop666 wrote "Stephen Sondheim is the writer of the general melody. Jeremiah pope grabbed it, reshaped it, and gave it a harmonial structure Sondheim could never dream of conceiving."
Quite possibly the 'idiotic quote of the year' winner. We'll attribute it to immaturity and hopefully he will grow out of his ego.
@sixfourwm Its not ego when you're acrediting someone else. You clearly lack the understanding of the limitations of being a specialist in a particular avenue of music. Study that, and then Sondheim's aclectic limitations will become apparent to you.
@Barbershop666 1) That you claim to know I clearly lack understanding in any area demonstrates ignorance, inflated ego, immaturity and/or stupidity. 2) Being a specialist in one area does not preclude one from being proficient in other areas. 3) That you claim to know the limitations of Sondheim's understanding and creativity demonstrates colossal arrogance on your part. Unless of course you are his equal in this area and know him intimately. Show us again how big your ego really is.
@sixfourwm Oh heck, can't you just get down off your high horse and appreciate what this genius of a singer has produced here, he has taken a score and used his talent and creativity to produce a truly impressive piece of work, that just shines through anything else I've heard in years. Just quit the pettiness of your comments and sit back and revel in this masterpiece.
@02Jonah He never will. He's convinced he knows the musical universe more than I, and his pride will not allow any realizations that counter that conviction to exist. Its the worst sort of intelligence. You must remain humble, or else all sorts of nasty things will sneak into your way of thinking. This person is one of the more extreme examples of it.
I trained classically for about 4 years. On any given day I have anywhere from 4 - 4.7 octaves.
@Barbershop666 A lot of it is down to jealousy, and inadequacy and i think we have a prime example here of someone who just quite can't adjust to the fact you're out there and doing this and receiving the attention it so rightly deserves. The 4 years has paid off prime time, your voice is a credit to you and I'm in awe. Keep this up Jays, I long to hear the next blockbuster. Kind regards x
@sixfourwm 1) Its not about the claim. Its very simple, your words reveal your character. All you have to do is climb up the logic tree and you'll find the source. You're doing the same thing by claiming what I said before was spawned from ignorance and inflated ego, your thought process is just ruled by your emotions, and thats why you're incorrect. 2) It doesn't always, but it definitely CAN. Our brains zone in. 3) You can learn a lot about a composer from studying his work. Try it.
It's obvious you've made significant vocal progress, however; I hope you will remove some of your previous videos, as they may lead younger singers to unnecessarily damage their voices in attempts to imitate you.
I first heard when you first posted this video.... simply beautiful & very inspirational. Came back tonight "New Years Eve", as what better way to end the year and start 2011 ~ you are awesome!
If a chorus was EVER able to pull this off, it would be a sure win for a swan song. LOVE IT!

@LegendaryCloud89 Wow! A little humility would go a long way, I think. I think this is very good work in spite of the little flaws.

I dunno. Both good.
Jastro88 1 year ago
@Jastro88 Good argument, but they become comparible when you look at them like this:
I would get sick of Louis Armstrong much sooner than I would get sick of Vocal Spectrum.

Quite possibly the 'idiotic quote of the year' winner. We'll attribute it to immaturity and hopefully he will grow out of his ego.
sixfourwm 1 year ago
@sixfourwm Its not ego when you're acrediting someone else. You clearly lack the understanding of the limitations of being a specialist in a particular avenue of music. Study that, and then Sondheim's aclectic limitations will become apparent to you.
Barbershop666 1 year ago

02Jonah 1 year ago
@sixfourwm 1) Its not about the claim. Its very simple, your words reveal your character. All you have to do is climb up the logic tree and you'll find the source. You're doing the same thing by claiming what I said before was spawned from ignorance and inflated ego, your thought process is just ruled by your emotions, and thats why you're incorrect. 2) It doesn't always, but it definitely CAN. Our brains zone in. 3) You can learn a lot about a composer from studying his work. Try it.

How do you not have 1Mil views on each of these? I think this stuff is awesome.
Some more upbeat/popular music would probably attract more viewers though.

It's obvious you've made significant vocal progress, however; I hope you will remove some of your previous videos, as they may lead younger singers to unnecessarily damage their voices in attempts to imitate you.
