  • is this really not rehearsed?

if not they probably dance together a lot.

just looks too good to be an on the spot performance,

unless they dance together all the time.

  • BRAVO! They are smooth and make it look so effortless! Love it!

  • I like it without a dress. She looks great, and so do all the other girls in the WCS vids I have watched. A dress such as used in ballroom latin or salsa competitions, would hide a lot of the subtleties of the smooooth ladies hip movements that the pants really bring out nicely. WCS has a smooth element that does not typically exist in Salsa.

  • I DID THAT :D

  • its great music for swing, shows how they can play with the music

  • what is this song???

  • Maybe good dancers, but NOT the old west coast swing

  • @southernoldie sorry buddy,....... no more coaster steps for you... times a changin'

  • @Nonana not that much....still hit the floor & get applause

  • @southernoldie And thank goodness for that.

  • West coast swing is all about showing off the full body. Something that a dress takes away with the flowing appeal. You go to a west coast event (as opposed to a ballroom event that has ballroom west coast) your not going to see any dresses unless its a routine if that.

  • First of all 2 different dances. latin and WCS , the body movement and footwork are different . I dont know if you have have seen tat and jordan do routines but a dress would just get in the way.

  • They seem to have a lot of synergy to me even with a ho hum song. I see comments about wearing a dress to differentiate the woman from the man. I don't know about you guys but she looks very much like a woman. Wearing pants and lower heels encourages a lot of play off of the floor and a more relaxed playful feel for me in WCS and also in Salsa. Watch Tatianna Mollman (Champion time after time) where I have seen her on her heels at times. I really enjoy using the floor in dance.

  • Blake is a tremendous dancer: There is a really funny and wonderful video of her and Jordin winning a Jack and Jill I think...It's kind of a Mrs. Robinson thing....she's like this sexy older woman with the young stud...very funny and great to watch. She's wonderful with John Lindo, as well.... Try to find Blake in a dress.

  • Nice dancing!!!

  • Correct grandcarriage. Makes me want to dance more, even though I know I'll never be half that good.

  • thats not true if you really get into it and do it i bet you could

  • wow, that is fabulous. seeeeexxxxxyyyyyyy!

  • Doing the splits in a dress is a bad idea; a dress would be inhibiting. Lindy dancers sometimes wear very full skirts with shorts underneath, but that is less sophisticated look, and is not in keeping with WCS. Take a look at some of the WCS dances posted on my video section to see WCS moves that would be quite awful if done while wearing a dress!

  • I don't like this song. To me it feels like it never gets going.Their dancing is great though. Jordan really stands out here. Dresses for WC? For some reason, not done much. Haven't seen any excellent dancers doing it. Maybe if they did...

  • I have never seen a skirt/dress obscure a leg line. Looks too much like 2 guys dancing. I don't have any objections to 2 guys dancing what I do like is to see femining/masculine synergy. For the particular dance this couple did a colored skirt or dress would have gone with the mood of the music. Now remember this is only my opinion. Does anyone know of WCS videos where the lady wears a skirt/dress ?

  • @mrapina In strictly competitions, you aren't allowed to wear costumes. (I just had to look up the rules myself) and most of the time WCS dancers don't wear dresses because 1. It doesn't go with the shoes (super low wide heel doesn't fit well with costumey type dresses) and 2. The synergy comes from the body movement alone.

Try searching "classic" and you'll find some spectacular glittery pantsuits. I hope this helps your search!

  • was this improvised?

  • To answer the question as to whether or not this was "improvised": Yes. Strictly is a social dance category involving no choreography. Of course, it's a lot easier to "improvise" when you're familiar with the song being played, as Jordan & Melina clearly were. And they did an amazing job. Oh, and I'm going to have to disagree on the dress thing. I like it much better when women wear pants for WCS. Dresses and skirts obscure the leg line.

  • No way,wcs swing is generally a pants thing

  • would like to see women wearing a dress during their dancing. Would look nicer.

  • In West COast Swing, the movement is not very conducive to wearing dresses. It just doesn't look right, for some reason.

  • I don't know this song :-( But would like to know also

  • Does anybody know what this song is called? I want to get it really bad!! :)

  • It's Jeff Gulob's version of an old King Curtis classic, "Soul Serenade". Great song! Great dancing!

  • oops.. that's spelled "Golub" (must proof-read before hitting Post)
