  • can you tell me the names of those buildings you show please........i really wanna know^^

  • hi Doug, I'm only 15 at the moment and hoping to become an Architect. I just wanted to thank you because your video's have really inspired me to fore fill my dream of being an Architect. I am currently using the '3D Home Architecture Deluxe 3.0' but the program is very limited, do you know of any decent Architectural programs that are of a reasonable price?

    Thanks a lot, Sam

  • @99sk8erboy99 Hi Sam,

    you are using 3D Home Architecture Deluxe? I using the same program too for the last decade. You are correct that the program has its limitations, but your creativity can go quite a distance. If you like, we can exchange works and experiences. I am looking forward hearing from you.

    I am Fritz

  • i think these convnetions really depend on the context. Function follows form is only successful in economically rich countries, when the structures are museums or similar buildings.

    I believe that a successful architect must be able to design a structures that can satisfy both requirements of form and function at its best.

  • Engineers dont like working with architect since architects lack structural sense, mostly.

  • @DewbieHaut

    and architects are pretty much annoyed by the stick-to-the-structure-sense guide of engineers, and didn't consider and understand the concept and ideas beyond the architectural decision of the building...

    look at zaha hadid, rem koolhas, frank gehry and many other architects.. those guys imagine and think of new forms, new possibilities, and their building was built..

    if FL wright always stick with the structural sense.. then we'll never see a masterpiece such as the fallingwater

  • DewbieHaut,

    I wonder WHY (especially ARCHITECTURE R ART instead of DESIGN [STEM {Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math}] crowds today)....

    v=7bICqvmKL5s

    ARCHITECTURE R ART crowds at work....

    v=j-zczJXSxnw

    FILTHY RICH & CROSS-DRESSING CHEERLEADER sure love ART....

    This is what happen when Anti-STEM {Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math} People R running our Earthly World!! >=P

  • thank you sir!

  • One man's icon is another man's vomit inducer. I had an instructor who loved Mies. I think Mies was mostly a one trick pony & the trick wasn't even that good. Who's to say if he's right or I am? The wildly sculptural buildings of today are as disconnected from the past as Mies' boxes were in his day. Something to note is that Mies' designs were affordable even if they lacked charm. Many of the buildings today are budget busters AND hideous.

  • Every time we start this discussion at school, Frank Gehry ends up being the argument hahaha. Great video!

  • like carving a house into a mountain.. and building a mountain with a room inside?

  • I liked this video a lot. I've always kind of designed this way and been very influenced by form and expression of a building. However, you didn't show any Peter Eisenman buildings, which are some of the worst examples in my mind of function following form. His gridded geometrical Houses that were impossible to live in. It's fine when something looks cool, and has a logic, but if people can't live in it without going crazy is it really worth it?

  • @SkiGoddess07 great point!

  • finally new video ^^ tnx ! ure the best

  • thanks for the cool vids

  • Good stuff Doug. Keep the videos coming.
