I was always fascinated with the music of this series as a kid. When I found this on youtube 25 years later, I seem to recognize it... It sounds very much like "Sparrowfall" by Brian Eno, doesn't it?
Anyway, I am amazed about how great this series actually was, and ofcourse ended up seeing the whole series in one night now. Thank you so much for uploading!
I loved Chocky I thought was an amazing series. One thing looking back to those school years, all that mumbo jumbo in maths of, algebra and long division and common factors, what blimming good are they when you are an adult, they serve no use to everyday life. Typical left brain prison.
I have a 8 week old baby who is now very interested in colours and moving things so I thought I'd see if he likes cartoons. After 10 mins of flicking through the kids section I was shocked, hardly any of them even speak a language! Nevermind English! How are children meant to learn anything when programs aimed at them don't use real words, just noises? Also, why are they all CGI now? Bring back the old style!!!
Remember having John Wyndham overload when Chocky and Day of the Triffids were on the telly and we were reading the Chrysalids at school. Combined, they were a better laxative than Salem's Lot.
I thought i was dreaming when I saw this - nobody I spoke to seems to remember this. I do remember that this scared the crap out of me when I was a kid.
Me too. It left a mark. I've been searching for how they created the sound of chocky's voice. It's like they put the actress' voice through an effects processor. You can hear the same effect briefly in Queen's "A Kind of Magic" at the start of the song. Does anyone know how Chocky's voice was made?
This freak me out when I was a kid. Loved this & love the title music !!! Sounds like a Yamaha CS80 ? Possibly made by the BBC radiophonic workshop at the time ?
Programmes like this made me the individual I am today. Thank you Havesomespecks it is a sublime feeling to be able to see this again. Thank you so very much!
This is simply, Tales of the unexpected kiddy style!! sick people, aiming material like that at a generation that was'nt able to put it into perspective!!! i use to go out & play when that shit was on!!
Pure Chocky goodness. Great playlist havesomespecks, wish I'd thought of this. Chocky had all the right aspects of its time, of Doctor Who and Saphire and Steel and even The Tomorrow People. I loved this as a child.
My god, its not until you watch a relic of the past like this that one can appreciate the decline that we as a country have undergone in a mere 25 year period. Mathew's parents had a garden larger than a postage stamp, London wasn't an Indian sub-Continent, the kids were going to school without stab proof vests...Hell they were even teaching maths in the school classroom, not social engineering and political correctness. Imagine things in another 25 years. I hope Im not around to see it.
I hope you're not around to see it too. People in a reasonable income bracket have always had gardens larger than postage stamps. 25 years ago people like you were complaining about the black people in London. And, speaking as a teacher, we need to teach kids about social engineering so that they can examine all of the propaganda and bile that certain groups spout and analyse it in a clear and critical manner.
childrens series back then were so imaginative and not afraid to push boundaries now its to pc and kids are smothered in cotton wool god forbid they should watch anything that might actually be interesting
I totally agree - half the stuff on kids' TV shows in the 70s would never be allowed nowadays, and I think it's a real shame - programming treats kids like morons nowadays and does nothing to engage or challenge their intelligence :(
If noone has said this already, jesus christ it is bayleaf (i think i have the right character) from london's burning!. I loved this programme as a kid. It blended into mr majeka in my head but it was great.
A lot of kid's television back then was intellectually far beyond anything today. It depresses me to think now of how I yearned for better. Looking back, this was better than I thought at the time, and far superior to modern fare.
At least! My friend, who has been working in the UK,has brought me the DVD with all ´3 series:Chocky,Chocky´s children,Chocky´s challenge.I spent all the night watching that.I was surprised,I culd understand it quite well in English original.(As a child I saw it with Slovak dubbing).
Wow, thanks for uploading this! I used to love this programme!!
But it's freaky thinking that 20 years ago I was a little kid watching this, and now after all those years I'm sitting and watching it again. More freaky still is the fact that I'm in the uni of westminster's library and that is opposite the planitarium!
Chocky take me with you, or at least help me with my essay on the post soviet state!
this is my other account, and whats more freaky is that Im personally studying into Communism and how it was financed by Europe. This is a bit like Chockys children actually :S
TV serie of my childhood.I was 10 when it was broadcasted for the first time on Channel-1/Czecho-Slovak state television/Saturday at 5.00.p.m in Children´s cinema .And Slovak dubbing is also good made.

Aunque voy pillando a ver si alguien se atreve a poner subtitulos.
Por cierto la pelicula está en marcha según tengo entendido pero no creo que tenga ni la mitad de magia visual...
Es una Obra maestra de serie con justos recursos.
