@lmMeghh Nestle is 4 years old, he has had lettuce every day of his life. green leaf, red leaf and romaine are all recommended by the house rabbit society and a staple in his diet. iceberg lettuce can give bunnies diarrhea and is not very nutritious so it should be avoided.
I always wanted a rabbit as a kid. We got a dog when I was ten, and I have been a dog person since. Not that I never thought of a bunny, but your video makes me wish I had one all over again, and I am fifty four. You would think I would learn my lesson after having five doggies all at once about how much work is involved, but again. I see the way the bunny tries to talk to you and I am envious.
@friscolane OMG, you should get one! there are so many sad bunnies in shelters just waiting to find a home where they can run around and be happy! there are shelters/rescues in every state and you can find adoptable bunnies on petfinder. i learned as i went along...all about having a house bunny.(HRS house rabbit society online will give you all the info you could need) they are pretty neat and clean pets, they use a litterbox and they clean each other constantly. (i have 2 lops)
is he neuted? that sound like a hormonal grunt/buzz! also lettice is bad for them and bananas should be fed as a once or twice a month treat as then contain alot of sugar! however saying all that, he is very very cute!!
@TheEmmeey yes, and this video was taken 3 years ago before he was neutered. he doesn't honk/grunt as much now. romaine, green leaf and red leaf lettuce is ok for them...iceberg is not recommended because it can give them diarrhea. yes, he has a banana addiction i'm afraid...he gets a piece(about an inch long) everyday and he's not happy until he gets it!
@freyjess Aww yh one of my females was VERY buzzy before she was spayed! mine LOVE strawberries! if tey had it there way, they would have them daily! but they get them every month or so! I always like to have a fruit/veg, they go nuts for, but don't get regularly! its a good way for if they need medicine, they will eat that type or veg/fruit with the medicine on, tho one of mine will only take her medince on a little peice of bread *rolls eyes*
my bunny is a lionhead called flopper and if i pet him he stays still like hes scared and when i hold him he kicks till he gets down and he runns from me alot....if we get him nutered will he be more nice?...and he also bites if i put my hand near his face and hr growls!
@TheAaron1924 most rabbits don't like to be picked up, they get scared. they feel safer on the ground. yes, after they are neutered they are usually more calm. i have one that growls and lunges at my hand if i put it near her face too.
@TheAaron1924 i think it's because she doesn't see very well right in front where her nose is (they have a blindspot) and also because she's very protective of anything that she thinks is hers. so i don't try to pet her when she is in "her" house or "her" litterbox because i know she'll be mad!
My rabbit makes a grunt noise when I swing my hand back and forth. She also go to bite. Does she hate me? She wont come near me and she freezes when i pet her.
@SuperCheesetastic yes, spaying is important even if they're alone. female bunnies that aren't spayed have a great chance of getting ovarian/uterine cancer. it also changes their behavior, makes them less aggressive.
@DanMarik i don't know what kind of rabbit you have but my lops really don't see well right in front of their face so if put my hand in front of their face near their nose they will sometimes lunge and try to bite because they're scared and they don't know what it is! also if you put your hand in her space, like her cage or box or whatever she has they can be aggressive because they are protecting their stuff.maybe take her somewhere she's not used to and see if she behaves differently?
@freyjess The lunging at my hand is probably due to eyesight. But when I go into her cage she freezes. But If I run my hand along the cage she active... Also she nips me. Most of the time its the chin or neck. Is this dominance or affection?
@DanMarik yes, spaying is important even if they're alone. female bunnies that aren't spayed have a great chance of getting ovarian/uterine cancer. it also changes their behavior, makes them less aggressive.
@DanMarik Our bunny took many months to get nicer. It can take time. She still grunts and even attacks when we go give her hay, or if she's hungry. But the 'freezing' thing doesn't necessarily sound bad.
@DanMarik when rabbits grunt its because they are horny and want to hump something. If they are being aggressive like that it is because of sexual frustration

@Lovingirl80 NO, don't ever spank a bunny! they have very delicate spines and get get hurt easily. give your bunny something to dig, like a box of shredded paper or old phone book...they love to chew and dig!
Cannot believe your rabbit hasn't jumped over that child proof fence thing, my rabbit used to have such an incredibly high jump, he would jump onto the windowsill and we were like ah!
Doesn't grunting me angry or upset or something? Or is it just like a dog's barking?
{btw: Why is beardeddragon21's commented negatively voted? It's not like he/she was calling anyone a retard or something. They just misunderstood something =/ (Honestly, I thought that too... mainly bcz I thought iceberg lettuce was the only kind of lettuce)}
I have a male rabbit who is about 6 months old, and recently, my aunt's rabbit had babies. They brought them over so we could see them, and my rabbit got very territorial and started making low noises. It sounded like low grunts. Why was he acting like that?
umm not to be mean or anything but lettuce is poisonus to rabbits. cabbage is fine but lettuce isnt. also try some strawberries they love that! by the way your rabbit is sooo cute!
@honeyXbear666 I had an indoor fence for a large dog and it worked find for my two rabbits. They were both about 8 to 10 pounds and the fence could be adjusted to create a large area.
Yeah, this is a rabbit "honking," not "grunting." Males honk if they haven't been neutered all the time; after getting neutered they stop. All rabbits (but females more often) will grunt and charge to show how ferocious they are. The sounds are different.
i had a white and black spotted rabbit a few years ago and he used to growl like a dog, lol! when i gave him a girlfriend to play with, he never got her pregnant...even though he was bought from Petland Discounts not neutered. he had died sometime around 2003, along with his girlfriend. they were both named Bane (from the animated Batman cartoons) and Lola Bunny (from Space Jam.)
Running Circles: If a rabbit is running circles around your legs, that is usually as sign that it wants to play and/or is happy to see you. Know that you are well-loved by your bunny if you are circled like this!
Grunting: An irritated rabbit will make a grunting noise. Pregnant doesn't prone to doing this. Also, does that are ready to breed will often whine until they feel they are pregnant or they are no longer ready to breed.
Also to the person who mentioned iceberg lettuce, it's not unhealthy for rabbits. It's just water and has no nutritional value. Water doesn't kill rabbits, but if that's all you feed them, they're obviously not getting nutrients. I give my pets romaine instead.
I have an un neutered male lop eared bunny and he makes this grunt kind of sound, but he usually does it while stomping his foot and turning away from me so I took it as a "this is me pissed" kind of sound. other than that, my bunny is really quiet.
@beardeddragon21 he eats romaine lettuce every day and sometimes green or red leaf lettuce. iceberg lettuce is not good for them because it has too much water in it.
@beardeddragon21 If a rabbit was in the wild, it would eat different types of lettuces. Rabbits need vegatables and lettuces in their diets, it's extremely important.
@beardeddragon21 you have obviously never owned a rabbit as you would know that it is the water content in iceburg lettuce that will make a rabbit ill. It is suggested that a rabbit is given at least two cups of greens a day, and a majority of that can be lettuce.

Also, does that are ready to breed will often whine until they feel they are pregnant or they are no longer ready to breed.

why are u talking to a rabbit ?

My rabbit does this when he's hungry. Mini lop?
Also to the person who mentioned iceberg lettuce, it's not unhealthy for rabbits. It's just water and has no nutritional value. Water doesn't kill rabbits, but if that's all you feed them, they're obviously not getting nutrients. I give my pets romaine instead.

I have an un neutered male lop eared bunny and he makes this grunt kind of sound, but he usually does it while stomping his foot and turning away from me so I took it as a "this is me pissed" kind of sound. other than that, my bunny is really quiet.

beardeddragon21 9 months ago

@beardeddragon21 You sir need to go to a magical place called a pet store.

@beardeddragon21 You are right and wrong. MOSTLY wrong. One called iceberg lettuce can make them ill. But otherwise
