That's an old idea now. There is much better transmission ideas out there. Much easier to repair. Too many moving parts in this lancer cvt. Why is it they have to have valves to change things. Talk about making it complicated.
@Jcal022 not simple to drain. i work with Mitsubishi and they require to to first drain. use a bucket to see how much drains out, so that way u have an idea of how much this cvt trans use, after filling fluid, it is important to reset the learning valve for cvt. the computer reads the fluid to see if its dirty and will adjust to compensate. after resetting, then warm up car till it read normal on the temp guage. check the fluid level after warm up to see if u needs add or decrease fluid.
great now if they or any racing company could make bullet proof cvt transmissions just like they do to make bullet proof automatic transmissions. hmmmm untill that day ill wait to put a nice turbo boost on my 08 lancer cvt.
Well you could make pain in the ass transmissions that you can't repair, or you could have an unboltable one. I would rather be replacing a worn belt than an entire transaxle.
I agree, that's why more car makers have dual clutch gearbox . Even Nissan didn't fit CVTs to 370Zs, X-trail diesels (due to massive low-down torque in comparison to petrol models) and off course GTRs.
Renault's new sports coupe/convertible have a manual and CVTs on petrol models BUT for diesels, a dual clutch obviously.
Also for Mitsi's Outlander, a 3.0L petrol model doesn't have CVT as most can't handle such torque.
@BlownDakota is there A way to make the cvt tranny bullet proof so it can with stand the turbo and hp and torque gains? I know if you add A tranny cooler it can handle the turbo but I wanna make the tranny bullet proof because I see automatic trannys get bullet proof so people can drag race with 300 hp so the auto tranny wont take a shit.
@swat305GINO you think 300hp is all an auto can handle? you know the dragsters? the funny cars drag racers? they are all auto. and that auto can handle almost 10,000HP.
@BlownDakota i know bullet proof automatic racing transmissions can handle 10,000 hp. Do you think they will be making bullet proof cvt transmissions I think they should because cvt is like the newer generation automatic transmission so I don't see why they wouldn't be making bullet proof cvt transmissions.
@BlownDakota ya but I heard RRM tested it on some ones 08 cvt lancer and their tranny snapped or it broke or something so i'm probably gonna go to mitsu and reprogram my ecu for manual and buy A racing manual tranny with A hard clutch and do A tranny swap then add forged internals to my engine then add a turbo at 11 psi or higher and add inter cooler short ram intake and tranny cooler.
Generally, no. Some CVTs (Nissan's) however can even handle VQ series 3.5L V6. However, most torque oriented engines eg. diesels and big petrol engines are better off with dual clutch gear boxes. Volkswagen/Audi no longer have multitronic (CVT) gearboxes (I think) and been replaced with DSG (dual clutch). Mitsubishi Lancers have CVT (as mentioned) except for Evos which have dual clutch transmition instead. As for Nissan, GTR35 also have a dual clutch gearbox for obvious reasons.
they need to createa 3rd kinda transmission or sumthin cuz autoimatuc and manuel is boring now. they could make sumthin like a combo where its a manuel autoimatic. where like the shifter thing is set like a manuel so it give u that feel but when you shift the transsmission automatically changes to that gear for you. sumthin different
Jatco makes this CVT transaxle, and it makes too the one for the dodge caliber and Jatco is nissan so nissan cvts might be simmilar!!
and I heard in the video "if any malfunction occurs in the belt puley section a replacement of the whole transaxle is required " so CVTs are disposable like regular Transmissions that don't have dipstic ZF, some GM and otehrs
I say disposable because the driver cant read the fluid level or condition of the ATF so it just drives it until i a total loss of drive.
Awesome how Mitsubishi puts paddles to make the user FEEL he has gears to shift with, and as such the tranny ends up "emulating" the regular tranny, so basically the advantages of the CVT is lost.. lol
the tension in the belt prevents slippage, just like the drive belts in your engine that drive the power steering/air conditioning pumps...the steel belt is made up of "elements" joined together and they have edges on them them are carefully engineered to fit the profile of the pulleys very accurately and give a positive drive.

is changing the cvt fluid a simple drain and refill of 6 qts?

wth? cvt with simulated gear shifts on demand? in sport mode??? shifting makes it slower than cvt, not faster!!!

@waltibaba yeah, i know right!? i want manual cvt, with shifter that just goes backward and forward, infinitely!

Too bad the Evo X and Ralliart Lancers have dual clutch transmissions as they can handle more torque especially at low revs.

Most important question.
Can CVT hold more power from tuned engine

yes RRM just made a Turbo kit for our lancer with the CVT to make roughly 220HP. for our car thats good.

You mean like tip-tronic transmissions?
Or just an automatic transmission with a shift kit that will have more aggressive shifts?

Oh how convenient it is for them to say "...replacement of the whole transaxle is required" when they are not the ones who suffer for it.
We, the consumers, are the ones paying for it!
I hope somebody would sue these companies for creating a car part that is impossible to repair and very expensive to replace...

you can see, theres two switch there to regulate the primary pulley and secondary pulley pressure..this is how the belt is moved and held

Nice explanation. I still don't understand how the steel belt is not losing its grip and not slipping while rotating the second pulley.
