I've seen many a great businessman make piss-poor decisions in the cockpit. I would think anyone that performs any sort of 'high risk' flying would understand this. But most make these accusations from the comfort of their sofas, cubes, and desks. Not understanding there is a difference. Sure, maybe the engine didn't quit but I'm sure that Navy report does address as to WHY he DID get out of the plane. Yet no mention of it?

There are many people who were POWs and should receive our utmost respect in the war but that does not qualify them for president. Hero yes but president no. There is one version on the internet that McCain started it all because he was doing a flash burn of his jets to provoke the pilot behind him and the flash set off the missle of the plane behind him and the missle shot under McCain's plane and blew up other planes. Upon further review (meaning I just read the LA times Articule) the second incident did not result in the loss of the aircraft. So that is only 2 crashes.
Im just trying to be fair here.

And as far as the Forrestall incident...he was sitting on the deck and another plane accidentally fired rockets into McCains plane that set off a firestorm that killed hundreds. You cant say that was his fault. Fair is Fair.

But the point of my post was simply out of fairness to point out that he only actually "crashed" 2 times, not 5.
Also, I wear glasses and I have a pilots license.
But ultimatly we agree, he should have been grounded in 65 after he lost his second aircraft.
At any rate, Obama is going to be a great President so none of it will matter in the end.

Yeah, there are racists, but U.S. whites probably have one of the smallest percentages of them. Minorities are able to succeed just as much as anyone else in this country. I've seen many a great businessman make piss-poor decisions in the cockpit. I would think anyone that performs any sort of 'high risk' flying would understand this. But most make these accusations from the comfort of their sofas, cubes, and desks. Not understanding there is a difference. Sure, maybe the engine didn't quit but I'm sure that Navy report does address as to WHY he DID get out of the plane. Yet no mention of it?

If it's public information, then it should be addressed. From what I've seen from several sources, the reasons for the crashes were pilot error. Of course, they don't show the entire reports, but that's the media.
In case of a national crisis, the right decision needs to be made immediately for the welfare of the nation. We need to know if we can depend on our president to make those decisions.

There are many people who were POWs and should receive our utmost respect in the war but that does not qualify them for president. Hero yes but president no. LA Times article is accurate regarding multiple foolhardy crashes & silver spoon pedigree. Not sure why comments here think they have a monopoly on truth because they have a military nom de plume or experience. My father was retired Col. veteran of 3 wars, recipient of multiple awards & medals & is buried in Arlington. We did not always agree but we both judge military competence: a maverick in the military is never a desirable character trait. He should have been weeded out after 2 mishap.

The Fourth Plane on the USS Forestal still needs to be examined. There is one version on the internet that McCain started it all because he was doing a flash burn of his jets to provoke the pilot behind him and the flash set off the missle of the plane behind him and the missle shot under McCain's plane and blew up other planes. The military reports investigating the USS Forestal disaster haven't been released. Why not?

i think its interesting how people give pilots so much due for being leaders, while there may be some exception. they are in charge of themselves basically, and they have to be EXTREMELY nice to the subordinates who work on their planes for obvious reasons. so where is the leadership experience within that? its a culture within a culture. if you want a leader out of the military, go to someone who had his feet on their ground and that ate some dirt.

The rules that apply for low level flight are allowed to be disregarded in selected situations in combat, who the fuck are you to judge his flying actions. The engine flame out can occur and a restart is possible once the pilot has ejected if selected step are taken prior to the ejection. so the engine could of being in the process of restarted and given the apperance that the engine was running, You Clown.

This does not change the fact that he came in as one of the LOWEST in his class by COASTING through it.
Even other pilots have questioned his actions.

There are accounts telling of him doing a "prank", shooting flames out the back to startle the pilot behind him. Some surmise this "cooked off" rockets cousing them to launch. There are also indications he was a "songbird" while a POW and they offered to send him home but of course he couldn't because of shame in ref his pa and gramps. Why did he shut down the POW/MIA closure efforts dispite soldier's families begging him not to?
