An interview on same DVD, after the movie:this racist lady was suggesting a black man killed off the Lawson family.Charlie was as pure as the first snow.Sounds like Susan Smith, a black man did it.Yeah! Whatever!.This lady was some distant relative.Nothing is as damaging as denial. In my family, my g-grandmother committed suicide. Her daughter, until the day she died, believed it was an accident. How does a grown woman drown by accident, in a few feet of water, w/ a rock around her neck. C'mon!
I think son/daughter of Marie Lawson's boyfriend, Charlie Wade Hampton, said it, that in those days, what went on within a family, stayed within a family. However, probably Charlie, who had a rep. for his bad temper, had been violent for years, controlling his family with terror, but he was losing that control when his eldest son grew big enough to say, "You're not going to abuse us anymore." I think Charlie planned to kill them long before it happened, buying them new clothes for the occasion.
My dads girfirend told me about this movie she also had the directions to get there and ever since i heard about it i have want to go there and record what happens so i can see what comes up. it is sad what happend to them
As a resident of Stokes County, this story has always caight my enthusiasm. I am aslo a bluegrass musician and I strongly respect the traditional and old time songs that are mostly unheard of today. I like the version of "The Ballad of Charlie Lawson" that is played at the beginning of this video. Does anyone know where I could find and purchase the full version of this song?
I'm the founder of North Carolina Paranormal Research Society. We went to Browder Cemetery one night and were shocked and amazed by the EVP we discovered later on while doing our analysis. We believe it was Raymond Lawson, who was only 2. You can listen to the EVP in our blog on Myspace/spiritsofthesouth. I can't link it here or it'll be considered spam and be tossed out, but we're not spamming, we just think ppl might want to hear this.
@pfcamp112 - they're moving after being shot because the bullets didn't kill them immediately, so to 'spare them a slow death', he used the butt of his gun to crush their skulls (as evidenced by their death certificates) before 'putting them to bed' in the barn (a classic sign of domestic violence related homicides; see Chris Benoit murders details).
Watch this channel's 'The Ballad of Carrie & Maybelle' (which made an NPR interviewer break down crying) for a fuller explanation.
I bought this film for my wife for Christmas. She is a descendant of Charlie Lawson (He was her Great Great Uncle).
The video is interesting. I give different angle of the mysteries around the killings. I thought that the quality of the film could have been better, but it serves it's purpose.
This film is awesome. The magnitude of the impact it had on me and the haunting quality of the scenes and the music will stay in my soul forever and causes me to return to it again and again. This film is definitely going somewhere. I give it 5 stars plus. When you watch it do so all the way to the very end because even the credits leave an impact too deeply to describe. Maria
wow, intense stuff! this is the best yet on this movie based on a story that is a legend around here. you can see why the movie has a lot of buzz about it, and i'm sure a whole new host of fans will discover why this story lives on after so long.
