It's all about marketing. Believe it or not kids in America that see anime for the first time are more prone to like the heavily dubbed than the slightly altered. They may get into better anime sooner or later but that's how it starts out. Plus the US dubs get marketed to willing European companies and many English speaking countries. That's why you hear the english song takes in different languages instead of the original. All in all for 4kids it's cheaper and more profitable to do it that way.
