Was the 4 speed still an option after 1979? I got an original 4 speed/ 400 79 T/A and that was the only trans available on that motor that year, and it seems like the 80-81 are all automatics. I know yours is newer from the 85 mph speedo, I'm just curious.
@oldskoolskater233 It was an option in 81, but only on the 305 chevy. This setup was out of a 77 T/A that I swapped in The car was originally a 301 turbo automatic
because I swapped out my trashed 81 bezel with a good used one. notice the 85MPH speedo and different number font on the gauges and the original turbo hood (originally 301 turbo) its an 81.
Sounds like crap

FloNWfan21 1 year ago
It can, Ive had it to 130. Just the speedometer cuts out at 85.
1981turbota 1 year ago
@FloNWfan21 in the late 70's, early 80's, the US govt demanded car manufacturers make speedos that only went up to 85.

Are you going to try and adapt the stock turbo setup, but with a bigger turbo of course, onto the 400 Poncho....?

Sounds sooo good. Your torque really pulls mid-range. It's fast and very sweet.

@i240robert Thanks! Its a fun driver. Im in the process of making it faster

nice car - getting one soon, how much of a difference is 301 - 400?
sneish 1 year ago
I had the turbocharged 301, and the 400 leaves it in the dust easily. Id say easily around 120 or so HP more.
It takes this car ~6 seconds to hit 60 MPH or so depending on how I shift, and it took the 301 around 8.5.
