  • will this work with just 2 ghz

  • wtf is with halo music hl >>>>>> halo why? well halo is a rip off of everything

  • I love the

  • WOW! Sounds like Mac users don't know much about gaming, considering everyone watching this video has to ask whether their Macs can handle it or not. If Mac users are so much smarter than PC users, they should be able to answer these questions themselves. I don't think the submitter of this video knows anything about gaming either, especially since he was using the Halo theme to demonstrate this Half-Life 2 video.

  • why did you post this video with your mediocre CPU & GPU? game detail sets to ultraLOW? what is the resolution? 640x480

  • Macs operate better on less hardware than PCs do because of their Unix core they're based on, making them superior to windows. with windows, you have to put software on them to idiot proof them, which in turn just bloats the OS. OS X is built to be idiot-proof. That's why stupid people get them. They don't have to maintain them because they come setup to be self-maintained.

    MACS: Made for retards.

  • ty!

  • Can my 2.66Ghz 20'' iMac run this fine? Thanks.

  • It shud Vista n Half life

  • lol wrong music.

  • did you se the game to high graphics

  • Great.

Is my MacBook Pro 17" Core Duo good enough for this game?

  • It should. Today's basic MacBook Pro has 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo, 2Gb RAM and an nVidia 8600M GT 256Mb. It should be alright since I can play HL2 on my Celeron 2.7Ghz, 768Mb RAM and an ATI 9250 128Mb XD

  • yeah your 17 inch will rape, they have like 512 nvidia cards, which are beasts!

  • oops, sorry, i didn't read the title properly, its a macbook pro. they're still really good though.

  • ok vid, but hl2 isn't the game to demonstrate mac pro's gaming capabilities. You need to run crysis, bioshock, world in conflict, and other directX10 games.

  • directx10 or directx9—doesn't matter. But the amount of particles and hq models does.

  • not for this game. This game is a DX9 game. Halo 2 was released for Vista because microsoft wanted to take advantage of DX10 features, which didn't really make any difference at all.

  • So what? :)

the question was to use hl2 as a benchmark of macpro abilites or to try a dx10 game.

  • Wow it runs great. Now I'm definitely going to buy a macbook pro.

  • plz can you give me the name of this song

  • First is Halo Theme - Mjolnir Mix and the second song is 12 Stones - Broken

  • Halo Music + Half Life 2 + Mac + Your gay for saying mac is cool = EPIC FAIL BEYOND BELIEF

  • Taking time to write this gay ass comment + your screen name = loser, get a life.

  • Ok, that does it. I don't care how much it goin' to cost but I will get the damned thing. Been using Mac OSX for about two month by now and I'm loving it.

  • My PC has 512mb Vista Nvidia Geforce 6100 N force 405

AMD Sepron 3.6ghz and DirectX 10 Doom 3 works great on it Half Life will too

  • i doubt you comp runs doom 3 great, first off semprons suck, i had a nvidia 6200 agp slot run about 5times faster then the 6100, and 512 is low, and your running the game in DirectX 9, only nividia 8 gen cards run Dx10 and the Ati 2000 cards

  • U probably saying that because your PC sucks besides i'm probably gonna get a gig and resurrection of evil so shut it asshole

  • im not an asshole im stating that your comp cant run direct x10 nor doom3 great, a gig wont increase that much nub and i dont give a fuck what you say

  • are you a noob? Macbook pro has an 8600GT video card.. thats DX10 noob! NOOB! why don't you go NOOB YOURSELF NOOB!

Wait till you see Crysis running on Macbook Pro 2.2GHz then we can all see you noobness here..

And I agree please don't attach Halo music to Half Life... Half life is a professional game Halo is just a noob game.

  • if halo is a such a noob why did everyone buy alomost 10 million copies of halo 2 halo 3 will kick ass so shut your mouth

  • As for as 10 million copies go. If you have any decent education in economics or as a matter of fact any education at all, you would know that people (especially white people) love hypes. The question is how many of those 10 Million people came out after 2 weeks and said hey this game is great. Don't worry I will answer that for you. The answer us probably around 1 million...

  • ...Oh and BTW, the population of the US is 240 million and Canada is 31 million so out of those two we have about 10 million idiots which is 3.69% of the total population combined and that's justifiable considering 20% of the American population is full of idiots and nutcases and out of those 20% dickwads 4% bought the "the most awesome" game. And that's just North America,...

  • think about he population in Europe, Japan, Asia (China) and I am glad. I hope Halo 3 fails to live up to its hype... like every other version of Halo out there.

  • well don't say anything asshole what does your pc have 128mb i bet it does motherfucker

  • Very wise use of the English vocabulary there my friend. So which hick town in the southern US do you belong to?

First of all don't challenge my hardware. I am running a system with Asus P5K-3 motherboard with 1333 FSB with an E6850 (1333FSB) Intel Core 2 Duo processor cooled with the Thermaltake's Big Typhoon. The motherboard has 4 Gigs of PC2-8500 of Corsair Ram and I am running two HD 2900 XTs (with 1 gig GDDR4 RAM each) in Crossfire Mode....

  • ...I have a 1 Kilowatt Galaxy power supply as well with one 500 Gig Sata HDD and a 150 gig Western Digital Raptor HDD.

As far as consoles go I just bought the new Xbox 360 with the added HDMI interface and the new cooling system (which MS slowly slipped into the market). (I dislike PS3 and I am iffy about the Wii)

As for laptops go I just got my Macbook Pro, which you will never be able to afford to shut it.

  • wow you do know a lot about computers dont you

  • 16gb of ram = dx10

  • The backlight is annoying at the bottom of the screen, and nowadays, HL2 is like childs play to most PCs

  • Hi there, any chance for you tell me the name of the second music used for your video, thanks...

  • 12 Stones - Broken

  • Can you please answer this ASAP?!!

Doesnt the Mac Book Pro overheat whle running XP? Do the fans work?

  • umm , i think i saw somewhere they did not under bootcamped XP or paralleled XP but i heard that the respective companies fixed that problem

  • I was about to buy a notebook PC, I almost considered looking at the possibility of getting a Mac (all the games and apps I have run on the PC so theres no way I'm switching if they can run) but the price of the Macbook Pro made me backtrack. Would that XP-in-a-Mac work for a lower end notebook?(like the white MACBOOK CORE 2 DUO 2.00)

  • that's: no way I'm switching if they "can't" run)

(when will we be able to edit our comments on YT??)

  • well xp can run on any Intel mac. The main difference between the macbook and the macbook pro is the graphics card.

If you want to play games like Half Life 2, go for the Macbook Pro but if you just want to run other things besides games go with the Macbook

Even though the Macbook Pro is expensive its worth it in the end

  • Yes, all Intel based macs can run alongside OSX.

  • How much did you pay for the computer?

  • hay guise, play any windows games on nay plataform, you just need "X" system to emulate microsoft windows lawl

  • To anyone asking about how to install Boot Camp: stop asking, there is is an Installation guide on the page that you download the beta. It's incredibly easy.

  • Lol it works smoother then on my pc lol!

  • hey EEVOL u heard bout the new Macbook Pros? They got a new gfx card now. The 8600M GT. so thats gonna be nice for games. U gonna get Halo 2 Vista yet? would love to see a vid soon :p although I knowthe x1600 runs it cuz seen vidz on PC's with that card. I still want to c it on the MBP though :D

  • nice video, man. also, i have a completely random comment. can you use your macbook pro as a monitor for a video game console like a 360 or something? in case anyone feels like telling me how retarded i am, i already know and dont deny it.

  • @heyitskawika: The only way I know how to do that is getting a usb stick that let's you connect analog video sources. Eyetv makes some for mbp.

@ eevol: nice vid man. I'm getting a refurbished 2,16ghz mbp with 256 vram this summer.

  • Hi ;) How hot gets your MBP when you're running games? I know it's hard to describe ;)

  • well i now saw your counter strike video and am amazed... sold (although i will probably just wait for leopard) thx again for these awsome videos

  • Your welcome :). Installing Windows via bootcamp is very easy, infact I have a video detailing it. My windows partition is the default 32GB.

  • Wow, I am SOOOO glad you posted this video. I am thinking about buying my first mac and this is the exact computer i was gonna get. Just a few questions. Does this get similar performance in Counter strike source (if you have tried it yet)? also how big is your windows partition? And one last question, was it very easy to install windows in bootcamp or was setting up the partitions a nightmare (like in M$). Thx... sweet video!

  • please god tell me what that song is i beg you lol

  • Which one? The first one is ofcourse from the Halo 2 soundtrack "Halo theme - Mjoiner mix" and the second one is "12 Stones - Broken".

  • awesome ass vid i got a Mac pro with 16gb of Ram and a 750 gb hd and 3 500 gb hd's and have a awesome ass graphic card but dude that's a awesome ass video man

  • shit how much did that cost you? lol

  • $16,000 but my dad paid for it and i had to slowly pay him back and i just got it paid off about a month ago

  • What the hell do you do that requires 16GB of ram? Because that's pretty much beyond overkill.

  • Oh i control my server with it.

  • Awesome! Is it the quad-core? It's a badass rig nonetheless.

  • haha yup i upgraded it after i bought it though

  • Does 2.33 GHz, compared to 2.16 GHz or 2.0 GHz make any big difference in game performance or graphics?

  • It won't make a BIG difference, but you'll certainly notice it on games like Half-Life 2. You might experience a slight graphics performance hickups or slowdowns on higher resolutions. And correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the 2.16 and the 2.0 MPB models only come with 128 MB of video ram, which would certainly give you bottle-neck performance when running newer games.

  • How did you record this, using a camera?

  • Yep I used a camera. I've also tried Fraps on my other vids.

  • lol half life on a mac with halo music...

  • way to put halo music on half life 2...

  • umm, its a good price.

  • How cost a Macbook Pro??

I am spanish, say me the price in euros €

  • I paid 1750€ for my Macbook Pro. This is for the 15", 2.33 Ghz Core 2 Duo, 120GB, 2GB RAM.

  • How cost a Macbook Pro???

I am spanish, say me the price in euros €

  • Hey, I just want to ask how big that file was, and if it was over 100mb can you tell me how you got it to upload on Youtube cause I have a file of video and was about 6 mins or so but was like 637mb. Don't know why but hopefully you can help me by answering the question.

  • What file extension is your movie file and what's the resolution? I think this HL2 video was like under 50MB because I encoded it in 320x240 resolution and saved the file as a .mov. What kind of video editing software are you using right now?

  • I just recorded some footage of me playin a game and edited it in iMovie with songs from my iTunes and stuff like that.

  • Check what resolution and format you saved the video in.

  • still won't work I need a file compressor for mac

  • can you plug in an xbox 360 controller and play with it? ive seen my friend play halo 1 on his computer using a 360 controller.

  • Appearantly it's possible under OS X, and I assume it would work for Windows also. I took a moment to google it ("xbox360 controller mac") and there are several articles mentioning a driver for the 360 controller. Interesting, I'm going to try it out one of these days.

  • thanks again for the helpful info.

Im planning to get WinXP home edition next sunday, and download bootcamp.

ill report how it works because my old friend sent me halflife 2 ep 1 for Christmas. (yay)

  • It's because, I'm getting a MacBook Pro Intel Core 2 Duo, the current cheapest one. Would it be able to run half-life 2?

  • I don't have any experience with the 2.16GHz/128MB VRAM, but I'm assuming it will run the game. I don't know how smoothly it will run it compared to the 2.33GHz/256MB VRAM, I'm assuming there might be some slight choppiness and slowdown since the VRAM in that model is only half of what the other model offers. Good luck with your purchase.

  • thank you for the answer.

Now, can you tell me what the mobile connecter is called?

  • Novatell V640 Express Card/34, there are others out there. You could do a quick search on google for similar Express Card/34 peripherals.

  • can you connect to the internet any where you want?

  • Ofcourse. You can connect on a wired network or wireless. You can access a wireless network through Airport (WiFi) or get an express card/32 from a mobile carrier, say Verizon or T-Mobile, and access the internet anywhere you want.

  • omg, i love the music , the second one.

    what is it?

  • 12 Stones - Broken.

  • could you tell about your experiences with installing bootcamp and windoze. Also if possible a video with a little more action so i can see how the macbook pro handles it.

  • Have you checked my other videos yet? I have a vid of me installing windows via parallels, installing windows via bootcamp is just as easy.

  • these vids have been really helpful. One question. did you go with the Matte or Glossy screen on your C2D MBP? Had you gone to an actual mac store to make the decision or were you already intent on one or the other?

  • I have the Matte screen, I own multiple laptops that are glossy and matte. I really hate the glossy screen since it reflects everything, tilting the screen doesn't solve the problem, as many people recommend to do. I knew which one I would get before I even stepped foot into an Apple store. Thanks for watching my vid.

  • Nice vid. quick question, during your experience playing win games on mbp, did you get frequent performance hiccups? or even when you doing stuff in windows?

  • Nope, never. Windows runs pretty well on MBP. Check my other vids and see for yourself.

  • are you running xp home or pro?

  • XP Pro.

  • How big is your xp partition? what about the mac partition?

  • XP is 30GB and OSX is 80GB, I do a lot of video editing (Final Cut Pro Studio rocks!) on OSX so I need all that space. Also on the OSX partition I have Parallels installed with Windows XP and Ubuntu(linux).

  • I am getting a Core2 MacBook Pro in 1 day. This is a very impressive demo of the hardware. Good stuff.

  • I am so getting a MBP! now if only they have bootcamp on vista, then I can play Halo 2 also =p

  • I don't know if you already know by now but you can run Vista via Bootcamp. I so wanna play HALO 2 as well. Comin out this year soon like April. Just tryin to help so hope that clears everything. Bootcamp=any windows starting from SP2 upwards.

  • Yep, I have Vista Ultimate installed via bootcamp.

  • How is Vista for gaming on your MacBook Pro? Wait if you have Vista now how do you play these games in your Vid? I mean I know this is XP but do they still play and run well in Vista?

  • Honestly I've yet to try and install any games on Vista as of yet. I've ran into too much incompatability problems with Vista, so I've hardly used it (don't get me wrong, Vista is by far the best windows OS yet and I love it). I think I might reinstall the back up XP partition and wait several months 'till the compatability issues are resolved.

  • I meant if you had the standard MBP, not upgradres, but i see now that is the standard model... Anyway, thanks alot for sharing... Have fun ( gonna order this MBP in december) ;)

  • Thanks for sharing.. Since you have windows XP installed, do you experience that the machine is getting slower? Can you confirm that you are using the standard model? Thanks

  • C2D MBP is very QUICK. On OSX I have Parallels installed with WinXP and UBUNTU (Linux). Bootup for OSX is like 20 seconds from turning the power on to accessing the desktop. WinXP (through Bootcamp) runs really quick, bootup takes about 30 seconds. I don't understand what you mean by "standard model."

  • Hey mate! I am getting a MBP too next week. What settings/resolution were you running HL2 at? Also what FPS do you get? It looks very very good and smooth! Thanks

  • In this vid I was running it a 1024X768 resolution. I tried 1152 x 864 and it was still running perfect. I was getting 60fps, but it would drop at around 50fps when theres a dozen characters on screen.

Oh I also ran it high on model detail, texture detail, shadow detail and etc..

  • Omg you have the same macbookpro I'm getting :)!
