This is very helpful. Some people see this as the wrong way. Well its not if you have laid out all your audio in your timeline already and you CANNOT change the mono to stereo once this has been done.
In this case you use this video to simply add the effect to whatever speaker is playing the audio. This saved me a few hours. Thanks~!
What a life saver. THANK YOU (but you've heard it all before so deal with it!). LOL Again (this time in different languages), gracias, merci, danke, arigato, m goi, obrigado...
You confused ALOT of people with this video. it doesn't address what people have come to find out. There are certain effects that APP only allows you to use on Stereo files. And for some reason, most APP films are mono, no matter what you recorded them on (@ least in my experience) We want to know how to take the mono tracks and make them stereo so that we can use effects. That's it. And this video doesn't teach that.
Hey dude, this is all you have to do: select the clip in the bin (before you bring it into the timeline) and select Clip at the top menu bar, then Modify>Audio Channels. You'll see a pop up box that has MONO checked already. Click Stereo and it'll convert it to that. Then drag the clip to the timeline, and use the Fill left, or right and it'll do just that. Hope that helps.
Hi Jon, thanks for taking the time to make and post these tutes, they are very useful. Could I ask that you do a tute on eradicating the mush that rises in a quiet passage, like when the speaker pauses to take a breath and then, when he or she starts speaking, the much appears to diminish. I think it's the amount of compression used in recording the sound but I'm not certain that is the cause.
@theprintsofwales This raised mush you describe is most likely the effect of Auto Gain Control whereby the audio is recording with automatic level settings and is trying to maintain an even loudness of recording which means it sounds great when it's noisy but then when it's quiet the background or Atmosphere (atmos) gets high sensitivity (increased recording volume) and in the end you have audio that is not quiet when you'd like it to be. I'll take a look at ways to diminish the issue :)
I got audio stream in MONO, and tried to do what you did but failed. How is this possible when there's no Fill Left/Fill Right in mono effect tab. I know I can't use stereo effects for mono, but what's the point with this video if you can't force MONO to STEREO??
I'm not sure i follow what you want to do? If audio is mono then it comes through both speakers in a mono timeline. There is no point in having a fill left or right as a mono effect as all they do is make the left or right channel mono = sound out both stereo speakers and not just one side. can you provide more info on what you want to do with the audio...
Ok. I got a movie sequence that is recorded in MONO. With this I want to create a stereomix of it. I don't know much more, just want to create a stereomix or we say a surround mix out of that MONO?
A mono audio recording is going to only ever be mono until you make a stereo mix by panning it. Is that what you need to know how to pan a mono file to left and right channels? What is the purpose of the stereo/surround mix? Stereo and Surround are different. Surround is minimum 5.1 = channels. You can't split out a mono recording to be the same as an original stereo playout.
that's because it's already mono. the fill left/right effect is a stereo only effect.
look at the effects bins, there are 5.1, stereo and mono bins and those are the effects for those audio file types. stereo effects don't work on mono tracks.
What steps are you going through? Adding the Fill "Left/Right" effect should work when there is actually audio in the Left/Right side you want to duplicate. It will make the single side of audio to come out of both L and R speakers, which is what mono does.
This helped me so much, thanks.

I have recorded sound in stereomode, but I only used the right input on the camera for my mic. How do I make this stereo?
larlunda 2 years ago
Use the fill right effect. it will duplicate the right channel and effectively allow the mono audio to come out stereo speakers together.
