  • @ARBELER Yasmin Levy is an Israeli singer who performs Ladino music with a modern twist, an infusion of flamenco in particular. Born on December 23, 1975, in Jerusalem, Levy learned about Ladino music and culture from her father, Yitzhak Levy, a researcher of Ladino, the Judeo-Spanish language of the Sephardic Jewish communities that were driven from Spain in the late 15th century.

  • Does anyone know what the Flute-esque instrument is called?

  • @bebopsi If I'm not mistaken it's a Turkish oboe. Turkish oboe's are pretty essential to sephardi music and I know that in her earlier albums featured the turkish oboe a lot. I'm 100% sure but I hope this helps.

  • da brivido!

  • Ut's amazing it's like she has many tones in her voice, I realy like the way she uses her voice:DD

  • This is the first time that I see this utube and it is excellent. I am from Bulgaria and this music is very familar to me but never thought that a Bulgerian band will play it. GOOD JOB.

  • @nygal319 That's not surprising at all, nygal - a vast number of Sephardic Jews, after having been expelled from Spain in 1492, migrated throughout the Ottoman Empire and some of them settled in what is now Bulgaria. Some words from Bulgarian were incorporated into ladino, i.e. their language. So maybe their music tradition stayed with you until this very day :-)

  • What is that woodwind instrument? That guy needs to come to my house and play that everyday for me.

  • @melissamaples hi Melissa...that is an Armenian flute ..called DOODOOK

  • @Qumak13 it's nat called Ney this enstrumant called Tsiranapogh (what became to be called even by Armenians Duduk afther the big Ottoman Occupations, todays Turkey)

  • @ozmofox You're right I made a mistake here. Thanks for correcting!

  • the duduc is a nice touch

  • Uhhhhh!!!!

Yasmin , in this video, is extraordinary.

Simple, beautifully dressed, amazing voice, great musicians.

    I love it !

  • saiwan12, she's from Israel

  • great voice , could any one tell me wher she is from ?

  • @saiwan12 Her family came from Spain and were sent out in 1492 when the Jews were expelled. Many went straight to Palestine in 1492,some went to North African countries where there were already Jews living there since the Jews were expelled from Palestine in the year 93A.D.

  • Why isn't this video letting me add it to my favorites?

I've been trying for almost an hour now but nothing.

Other videos let me add them. So why not this one?

  • It's ladino, fron the Spanish jews thrown out of Spain in 1492 when Grananda, the last muslim kingdom was reconquered by the Catholic Kings.

It's a shame because those muslims and Jews were Spanish and they loved their land.

Most of them found a new home in the Otoman Empire, that's why the influence in their music.

  • @JurionDZ, correct historic account. It is worth noting that the Jews were expelled of Spain when the Catholics became rulers. Indeed during the Muslim reign, Jews were never threatened, though recognized only as a minority with inferior rights.

The situation is strangely reversed today, with such unfortunate consequences in the Middle East.

The duet by Levy and Atlas is something sublime, if only because of the strong symbolic harmony between these two fine singers, one Israeli and one Arab.

  • Very beautiful song.

    The tremendous singer.

    Зурна it is delightful.

  • The instrument that man is playing is beautiful. I could listen to it the entire song.

  • this voice kills me :(

  • It's Armenian duduk.. sounds great.. her voice and the guitar and duduk..... she's perfect!!!!!!!

  • When you searched 'Mey' on youtube, you may see that it s not duduk. it s 'mey'. a traditional music enst. It s used by people who live in Anatolia. Duduk is smaller than 'mey'. and its' sounds is different than it. According to me duduk is better. However it s not duduk.

  • Perhaps it is a glitch of the video, but right at the end, when she sings: "y en el senyor de todo el mundo.", she may be lip-synching (which doesn't diminish the great value of the song).

  • The video and audio are out of synch with each other - - vocal and instrumental - - which gives the impression of "lip-synch".

  • Ah. Thank you for telling me.

  • @Garc1993 that is because of the video and audio is not in sync.

  • derdo

  • The ney (Persian: نی; Arabic: ناي‎; Turkish: ney; also nai, nye, nay, gagri tuiduk, or karghy tuiduk ) is an end-blown flute that figures prominently in Persian, Turkish and Arabic music. In some of these musical traditions, it is the only wind instrument used. It is a very ancient instrument, with depictions of ney players appearing in wall paintings in the Egyptian pyramids and actual neys being found in the excavations at Ur.

  • Duduk is a Turkish word and a Turkish folk instrument!

  • Duduk is orjinally Armenian word and Armenian folk instrument. In Turkish, its name is "düdük" and düdük is diffirent. This is not düdük. Do u know any duduk musician in Turkey? Nope. I can tell u hundreds duduk musician in Armenians. Have u ever heard Dijvan Gasparian for example? God... what should i say to this racist brains...

  • @EyupsanXalid ASSHOLE
