  • They played Greenbelt in 1992 too, and they were awesome there too. Patience and Till We Have Faces are still my fave OTR albums.

I remember watching them and being captivated by their music, and Karin's haunting vocals, most awesome!

  • I remember seeing OTR at several venues in and around the Cincinnati area and several of their shows are memorable performances (Moonlight Gardens, the amphitheatre at Eden Park, Tall Stacks, the Christmas shows at the Taft, etc.) but the shows they did at Sudsy Malones will always remain my favourite. They performed there without stage lights under dim candlelight. How they ever got away with that I'll never know but it was absolutely magical.

  • I was in the crowd here, my first contact with OTR and man did it leave an impression. Still the most memorable concert I have seen to date. The rain came pouring down but didn't matter. I had never seen an E-bow (the machine Ric uses on his guitar) and was wowed beyond belief. Still love them, but I miss the old days with Ric and Brian as well. Newest live album features their reunion at 20th anniversary :-)!!

  • Awesome!

I saw them do this same performance at a small club in Lakewood, Ohio. I bet there were not more than 150-200 people there and we were seated at tables! I knew nothing about OTR at the time and they blew me away. Were sitting at tables, with red and white Italian tablecloths, drinking beer and the are rocking. Then, one by one, they end their performance! I was drunk! I was blown away!

  • I should add that I don't remember Ric beating the shit out of his guitar though! LOL

  • THANK YOU!!! I have this video. I love folksy music in general, but I really miss the "old" OTR. They had class AND they rocked! I loved seeing them live back in the day. Now, it's different, not bad, but I find them almost pretentious.

  • Yes, I can appreciate why you would miss this stuff, it is impressive. I´m missing it and I´ve never seen it before.

  • saw this song live about a dozen times, always blew my mind. Sadly i don't follow them like i used to. Not even sure if they would be as good as a duo. The really wierd thing is my anniversary is the same date as Linford and Karins. Guess thats why they wouldn't play at my wedding, lol

  • OTR!!! OTR!!! God how I love them! I think i have all the cds...and I remember seeing them perform at Jazzoo! Thanks for posting the awesome original four! Not that I don't still love them to pieces!

  • i'm not familiar with the new Over The Rhine, this is what i'm familiar with, have the CD Patience. saw them multiple times at Bogarts in Cincinnati. they were great. now gonna have to update with them

  • Wow, this is amazing. Saw Ric recently playing with Phil Keaggy; got me wondering whether there was any footage of old OTR on the net. Like some of the others have said, I love their later material too, but the first three albums are my personal favorites. Especially "'Til We Have Faces"!

  • Saw the original OTR several times between 91 and 96, always amazing. I miss Brian and Ric, though, and Linford's lovely Pedulla bass, which he stopped playing when he became a piano player. Karin is even more beautiful now.

  • Oh god I miss the old OTR too. I just saw them two weeks ago, though they are still amazing, nothing compares to the jam they laid down for "If I'm Drowning". I was fortunate enough to watch them perform this song live in 96-97 in a dorm room theater in Savannah GA - no where near as flashy as this, but in a small room with no more than 30 people. Talk about being blown away... ahh the memories :)

  • I was at this concert, and the song still sends chills down my spine. As the band started playing, the beams of searchlights next to the stage were very visible, and suddenly you could see this curtain of rain coming down, and we all got drenched... it was magical! It made OtR my all-time favourite.

My favourite song is still 'ubiquitous hands'. i wooed my (then future) wife reading her the lyrics over the phone, and i sang the song to comfort her when she was delivering our first son.

  • I love everything current, but damn, this was amazing. I miss this sound. Rick Hordinsky (sp?) added such depth.

  • Incidentally, what is Brian Kelley up to these days? He is a fantastic drummer.

  • Cool, thanks. I miss those days, too. Never really gotten into the later stuff.

  • I have 2 "Monk" discs that Michael Wilson gave me.

I first learned of OTR just a few years before this. Love that band.

  • It was pretty nice of that Dickens novel to let Linford out for the night.

  • Bwahahah!

  • Go Ric! Monk lives on... somewhere!!

  • First time I saw that was opening for Sleep Theater on New Years Eve at Sudsy's. The blew the audience away that night... bought and wore out that first cassette.

I loved the original line up.

  • Heh- I was one of the first bartenders at Sudsy's and Gerry Springer was my favorite client. OTR is a beautiful band.

    Peace.

  • Wow, this brings back memories.

  • "If I'm Drowning" is from Til We Have Faces; their first CD (cassette actually/mostly).

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you! I was looking for this clip for ages!

I was there at Flevo '92. Great memories. During this song it started to rain HARD, and the crowd went nuts! :D

  • Doesn't she sing a song called "give Me Strength"?

  • yep. from 3rd watch. it's on the "Films for Radio" record.

  • TYVM. I just wanted 2 make sure b 4 I went lookin 4 it.
