my daughter didn't start forming sentences until she was 4-5. She had ecolalia and we were afraid this would be she would do but language finally came. So don't give up GI
She is beautiful, I send you my best in regards to her speech progressing. My son talks (he is 5) but we don't really converse if you understand what I mean. I would love to have heard what serge was saying to her!!!
In the uk we have two dvds called LOOK I'M TALKING. They are from baby senses, but are perfect for toddlers. They have a bunch of kids making letter sounds, then saying so e words and a few short videos of the words. Might be useful...
When did Sharlet start talking? My 3 and a half year old son also has moderate?severe autism, and so far,all he says is "Hi".Cant wait to hear more from him,though:0)
Sharlet is now 4.5 and started talking around six months ago :) Still mostly single labeling words and echolalia, not a lot of "functional" or spontaneous speech, but we think she's doing great. Does your son do pecs? most of Sharlets came from us starting pecs at 2.5.
Hmm... as i saw in other YouTube vids, autistic people usually hide themselves in their own world, refuse to communicate. But Sharlet is so active and cheerful. Maybe it's just my "stereotyping" of autism? (and by the general public as well)
OK, how can I be hiden in my own world and how am I refusing to communicate, if I was in my own world, I wouldn't be manifesting here at all. WHilst not offended, I fail to understand that logic
I should say, everybody has his own little world, some feel easier to communicate, some feel harder. I also have difficulty to communicate with others, but it seems if keep trying, everything will be fine. It's like a life-long training.
Mind you, the only struggles that I have had are actually those caused by the Neurotypicals in high places. It is THEM who wouldn't seek to understand me, for I have and had been communicating from the start, they just refused to listen until it was translated in to their language. Ask Allegra how many of the songs I have sang for her and exactly WHAT they deal with :)
@Allegra250 Doctor Hans Asperger noted the ethereal beauty of his patients, almost as if it was a diagnostic trait. Most people (outside of the media, of course) note that most autistic individuals are exceptionally good-looking. The only ones who portray autistics as ugly burdens who leech off of society are immature e-thugs and groups such as Autism Speaks who have financial gain by dehumanizing autistics.
she's adorable...how cute...God bless you honey..and your family

You're right, my previous words were wrong.
I should say, everybody has his own little world, some feel easier to communicate, some feel harder. I also have difficulty to communicate with others, but it seems if keep trying, everything will be fine. It's like a life-long training.
