This version is million times creepier than the remake. That music is just so chilling and creepy also I like the staggering zombie to its racing successor in todays zombie flicks.
From 0:37 to 0:42 Francine complains that they don't even have food, water, nor a radio. Later on she's still pessimistic in spite of all the mall's luxuries when she's lucky enough just to have food and water.
Exactly, I remember seeing the first "indoor mall" and it was around 1978. Lakeside Mall in Sterling Heights, Michigan. SEARS was the only store there. That will always be a haunting memory for me now, thanks to "Dawn," the greatest movie ever imho.
This flick scared the hell out of me back in '78. Bad dreams & all. Now I look back & enjoy it for the classic that it is.The special effects are not that great but its still an awesome flick. I like these better than the new zombie movies where they have super strength & can run full speed. Nothing beats the classics. Question - Why would a mall have a helicopter landing pad on it?
I like the new and the original version of this. Rhames is good. The security guards are good replacements for the red necks in the original film.. kinda glad they got rid of the helicopter in the new one.. gives the characters more going against them..
favorite part of the new one.. the husband attacking the wife in her car then takes off to attack another unsuspecting neighbor.. hilarious!
@sweetsendaedreamr lol! i remember tht part he just turned and got the neibor, she was just standing there stupid as hell women, this is why they will never survive the apocolipse with out men.
Uh no, copyrights protect someone's ideas against plagiarism and theft. Just because it infringes your entertainment, don't be such a jew and go buy the damn movie if you want to watch it.
Stephen, "What the hell is it?" LOL, The guy does traffic for the city and didn't know what the mall was, or what a mall is ?????? Always thought that was one stupid line.
Tom Savini picked up on that in a DVD commentary. He said "That line always gets a laugh with modern audiences. But back in 1978, these malls were quite a new thing and there werent that many around"
It was 1978, do you honestly think they had the giant shopping centers of today everywhere? It's Monroeville, there is nothing there but bum and fuck, especially in the 70's. Could have been an office building or a military installation. There were hundreds of Nike Missile sites all over central PA.
The town is adjacent to the Pittsburgh corporate limits, and a well populated suburb, only a few miles from downtown Pittsburgh, even in the 70's. Also malls were already popular and established on the american landscape in the late 70's. Also traffic reporters for a major tv network covers more than just downtown or the innercity, and would absolutely know what the mall was just a few miles from downtown. So yeah, this steven character was an idiot. And "nike" missles ? ...
...LOL, an assault with tennis shoes ? Besides, they wouldn't have a missle silo sitting in the middle of a suburb like that, and it sure wouldn't look like that lol. Nice try, but it was a dumb line, no ifs, ands, or butts.
I'm in Canada, so I've heard the name "Moosecrotch" to describe hick towns where, I think it's safe to assume that, there is nothing but bum and fuck lol.
@lesterclaypool1 Ive been in Canada and Hick towns, or 2 horse towns are known as '2 Tim Hortons' towns! At least they were back in 2006, and in Ontario
Yes, they still measure population growth in Hortons. I guess that the beer store has a lot to do with population, too: If it's in an actual building, as opposed to a trailer, you can call yourself a town.
@lesterclaypool1 Thats good to know. I know the type of 'town' you speak of: one that springs to mind is 'Wawa', just off the trans-canadian highway 17. Lovely little town; I guess you'd be quite safe from zombies there!lol!
@TitaniumByFire He did the traffic for Philadelphia, this scene takes place well into Pittsburgh. Also malls weren't as frequent in the 70's as they are today, so it's isn't to illogical that he never saw one.
Does anybody know the name of the old zombie movie where they were underground and a doctor was there "domesticating" one of the zombies...I remember he was trying to tame him and at the end the zombie learned how to use a gun when they killed the doctor
Actually they were pretty safe. The zombies couldn't get on top of the building, and that office and storage area was buffered from the rest of the mall, so all they had to do was lay low in there and enjoy the food and warmth. It also gave them time to rest the helicopter, which was was their quick escape if they had to, and rest their bodies and give them time to think of a future plan. The problem is that they got too greedy and bold.
@TitaniumByFire i think it would have been ok for them to take a small amount of money and a watch plus some quality guns and ammo but yes they did get to greedy and although they were greedy i still would have gotten the mall blocked off because it would be boring to stay there for the time they were there

I think the reason the old ones are better is because you have to try harder aka since they had bad graphics they have to make it up with everything else excuse my bad grammer
baleve it or not zombies r real but not the u get bit you die zombies just people tortured to the brink of death and they become primal and bite everything they can find like people dogs even trees and houses.............. and the nuclear thing ment a nuclear reactor for the whole city
