Is it true that Monica is actually Gail's daughter? I remember reading an interview with Leslie Charleson in which she mentioned this.

Gail took Monica in as a 17-year-old orphan and sent her to college and med school, but I don't believe an official adoption ever occurred.

It's my understanding that Gail had legal custody of Monica, but did not adopt her.

Thanks for this! I missed the whole Dawn story. Though I have to say I thought (and still think) it was stupid! I mean, it would have been more believeable if somewhere along the way during Monica & Alans 20plus year marriage, she would have talked about giving birth to a daughter with him or SOMEONE! LOL! It just really bothers me! LOL!

I felt the same way when all the sudden Laura had a son with the Cassadines she never told Luke about. And I thought Dawn should have been Rick's.

I too wasn't happy when they rewrote Monica's history...

Personally, I always thought it would have been a more problematic story, had Gail's first husband, Greg Adamson, been the father. Monica could have hidden Dawn's true paternity from Gail. To me, that would have been a more plausible way to play it out.(For those who might no know: Monica was living with Gail and Greg in her late teens.  Greg manipulated Monica into bed with him. Gail found out about the "affair" years later.)

That would have worked really well too, considering that Gail was around a lot during this Dawn storyline.
