As a resident there for 1 year, I felt that such a beautiful neighborhood needed some jazzing up. E&C has so much potential, and I think that the remodeling aspect looks better than whats there now. There will still be plenty of places for the people to display their cheap merchandise and substandard trinkets. Man I miss that place.
yes its a little bit grotty, and has the feel of being a rough area, but its really well located to walk to city or west end, and im hoping in 5 or 10 years from now it'll get cleaned up a bit as it has the potential to end up a total gem of a place. and you have to admit, even the name is cool.
Horrid place: massive road junction, no good pubs, bars, restaurants, loads of illegals, hardly anyone with a (real) English accent; not even a London accent, noisy chav-filled buses, people who can't queue, cheap Chinese food, revolting and giant blocks of municipal flats, no parking (nothing to park for). Perhaps they should have extended the Bakerloo southbound so nobody had to get off there. I like the music they play at the Tube though.
Hi i really like the pics, but it is true, it needs some audio...
i am making a small video about e+c, do you think i could use some (4 or 5) of the pics you have here?credited of course. It's only an exercise for school...let me know!
Generations of my Family lived there until we emigrated to Kent(lol) 1983...when we realised we were the only ones speaking English on the 12 or 45 or 68 bus..:(...Very sad as my heart will always be there and I do drive thru' once a month nostalgicly.Destroyed the Walworth Community with The Aylesbury/Heygate Estates replacing our Terraced House. Thanks for that Guys!..Now?..1/2 mile from edge of South London and don't lock the car in my drive.
This is a great video... though I am unsure as to what subject it is on. The archive pictures are amazing particularly where you can see the Tabernacle through the wreckage. It needs audio though.
boring video, you could have at least put some music. like the song elephant and castle by houston calls..

If you're still doing your project...

For 13 months now, I have had to walk through E&C on my way to and from work. I hate it. It is a slum.
It's a classic, living example of how 1960s developers FUCKED UP. In fact, I think the 1960s developers should be rounded up and brought to trial.
They designed a future slum back then, and it worked! All they cared about was vehicle traffic. Community died, but that was what they wanted.
