Part II...I came from Cuba in the 60's as a baby...the story that he tells fits with everything I grew up hearing. While I honor what he shares, I also think that we need to prepare for the new world that is now in the process of emerging. Hope that Cuba will not become the "Gumby" it was when the USSR and the US pulled at it from each side. Not a new place for China/Venezula/take your pick will take one side while we take the other and once again rip this country apart...enough already!
Feels/sounds very authentic...any society that has been under such strict control for so long will have a bit of a bipolar reaction at first when the embargo is lifted/Castros are out of power. Intially, elation, then depression at finding out that "things/freedom" in and of itself will not bring happiness and then finally (hopefully) after a few years (think East/West Germany) be at some level of maturity as they find themselves in a better place but still on a journey to a much better place
This is incredibly beautiful and detailing--refreshing--truth--i appriciate it immensly. Americans are jaded by the holywood castro--and often forget about the true villan and the results of dictatorship in cuba
