I love Ruf's, don't get me wrong, but I was just thinking, I've neard so many people say, "it's a brand of it's own" that I can't help wonder why they don't design their own cars. It seems they are profitting on the reputation and the image that a porsche conveys. I like ruf and I personally own a porsche but I never took it personal when people linked the 2 together, but If you want to get defensive about RUF not being a porsche then you have to question why they want to look like A PORSCHE.
You see it from the wrong side. Yeah, a Ruf has the shape and technics from a Porsche (they´ll get everything from the Porsche Manufactions). BUT - they modify so much on this cars that PORSCHE says: this is no longer a Porsche, it´s a RUF. RUF was and is a Porsche-Modifier, who has got become the status of an own Brand. RUF is a brand like BRABUS and CARLSSON for Mercedes or ALPINA for BMW, they are modified cars from the Factory with the status of own brands with the blessing of the prod´s.
Ruf Automobile GmbH is a German automobile manufacturer. Rufs are built from unmarked Porsche chassis. When a chassis arrives, Ruf builds their own independent work into the car or convertes Porsches into a RUF from customer cars. Because Ruf installs many of their own-made parts, the company is recognized as a manufacturer by the German government. (I took it particularly from Wiki, because it shows more detailed what i exactly mean.)
I don't know exactly, but it seems to be an american car, just because of the look of the engine. The front of the car doesn't look like one of an Abarth 2000.

I see what you mean. So Porsche say's "they are there own brand" Not RUF saying "we are our own brand" . That makes sense.
brandiclay 3 years ago
Both are it saying, Ruf also as Porsche. But it´s not a barrier to work together. :-)

At 055 - which car is the gold painted N°18 ?
I may be wrong but it seems an Abarth 2000...
any suggestion ?

to p9893 - humm...yes,it could be a Can Am
of the 70es.Thx for sharing this interesting
video.
indigoblue555 3 years ago
the gold car at 055 looks like an early McLaren can-am car. Garage appears to be Watkins Glenn Kendall tech center, at an SVRA vintage race.

to rick8928 - thx. I guess you can be right.
indigoblue555 3 years ago
Yep, but you can clearly read the the Porsche-tags on the side, nearby the race-number and under the Martini-logo

Very nice video,Stefan Bellof stays in my mind at the same place that Bernd Rosemeyer ;-)

thats the 917 turbo from the Can Am series in the early 70`s
mlrb 3 years ago
No, i'm sure it isn't, the can-am Porsches were blue/yellow and had a huge rear wing
