  • oh lawdy i heard satan is lord satan is lord p79 in that. dam debil wershipers backmasting captchas

  • I think these captchas are getting out of hand. I can post one comment without having to fill out the captcha form, and then have to deal with increasingly complicated, and often erroneous captchas. I recently had to fill one out with a combination of Latin, Greek and (get this) Mandarin Chinese characters. I filled it out, having a lot of time on my hands, perfectly, and was greeted by an error message.

  • captcha wont stop bots, because they relay many of them to porn sites and forums. when user enters that site, they actually help bots solve youtube, or facebook's captcha.

  • Decaptcher ftw it's cheap and it will work on any system since real people solve them. IMO captcha is pointless since everyone that uses a bot for whatever has built in access to connect with decaptcher.

  • Absolutely right. I've been working with Accessibility Standards Canada to come up with a solution that doesn't suck fr the visually impaired for our new CAPTCHA replacement technology: vouchsafe. We have side-by-side comparisons on our website, but unfortunately, no one seems to be all that excited because (we're told), the visually impaired are to small a market to matter. Our product is called VouchSafe if you're interested.

  • Microsoft Sam is the best TTS screen reader!!

  • captcha is the most annoying, brain numbing thing to have to put up with yet...

they could at least use a real word to make everyone better spellers, or find a different algorithm to block the bots or whatever...but no, another dragnet solution to annoy the shit out of people similar in situation to the TSA and their grope everyone crap.

this country is becoming dumber by the second.

  • Captchas keep out people in general.

  • @C0LL1N funny you say that because it is know that the gov has bots than can access comments on social site to sway public opinion and take the temperature on topics. I think they know computers can solve them but people just get pissed and leave abandoning their comments

  • Spam is technology. Some spam bots are spreading like wild. Captcha is an example for the solving of a problem that we created. And we solved it very stupidly. Imagine if we would convert all the captcha keystrokes that everyone has to type daily into mechanical energy. We could power a small village.

  • Thanks you for this video. Will keep this in mind when doing captchas on sign up and copyright report on my site. And then you fail putting a password in 5 times.

  • @PanndaKat the best way to remove spam is to delete

capcha make it hard to spam but also a pain for us to comment freely.

    a double edge sword.

  • people should get more creative and make it better ways to keep out spam bots.

  • One more reason for captchas to be removed! DOWN WITH CAPTCHA! They ARE the ILLUMINATI!!!

  • @IamInYourClosett

Your comment is very ignorant. They can download audiobooks etc on the internet. And "Your" is not the same as "You're", know the difference. Learn to spell before you get on YOUR computer.

  • Captchas are very easy now4 screen readers to read. Just look at all the spam. I'll admit that in the early years it did prevent spam a lot. But now it's 2009. Well this vid is from06. Anyways they got to Make a new way to verify users 4 2010 and they can just charge for the blind to make accounts. Problem solved

  • Griffon502, blind people use screen readers with text-to-speech features to access the web. It works well... provided web designers have kept them in mind.

  • the audio captchas are creepy O_O

  • TOTALLY AGREE

it's not only for persons with vision loss.

If I make a few comments in a row .... i now have to enter a captcha that is difficult to read at times on youtube.

  • well, on facebook you only have to put this thing in once EVER! are you saying that they cant find someone to put it in EVER?

  • Randy, the idea is that the visually impaired shouldn't HAVE to get someone to do these things for them. Many live alone, and independence and dignity often walk hand in hand.

Providing an alternative to CAPTCHA isn't difficult for web developers; it just takes a little time and effort... and an open mind.

  • well its easier for a computer script to decode an audio message then a visual captcha.

    ever heard of voice recognition?

  • Of course, Randy. Ever heard of audio distortion? (For that matter, ever heard of conversations that don't include sarcasm? You may find they run a little more smoothly.) Audio CAPTCHAs are generally distorted for the same reason that visual CAPTCHAs are: to make automated recognition a lot harder.

  • Nicely done video! Plainly and simply, it gets the point across in an entertaining way. Good on ya, AFB.

  • Catchas are a pain even if you are not blind.

  • The same thing sighted people are doing.

  • THATS WHY THEY HAVE THE SCREEN READER! man i swear people can be so stupid on youtube

  • @itzme10 "screen readers can't read them", yeah, they do hate blind people.

  • captchas areinsidious evil little things.

  • Just a wild guess: chatting, making friends, doing the whole social network thing?

  • hmm........

  • Great Video

  • i do not want to be rude, but changing that for a small majority is not as easy and convenient as it may seem. A think the only possible solution would be not to remove captcha, but to provide a sound option. So that this way it works out for everbody. But if you want to make a difference start an organization or something. Thats how captcha got started, people did something about it

  • ello? that was allready mentioned in the video, and its easy to ad a sound option for blind pple

  • oops, i might have posted this intending for it to be in another video

but ya, the sound options aren't very clear.

    but thats just me

  • If you're looking for a forum software that has accessible versions of this security feature, try using SMF (Small Machines Forums). I found them while trying out rockbox, and it instantly made those my favorite forums. I host websites. I plan to encourage my clients to drop VBulletin and phpbb and phpbb2 in favor of SMF simply because of accessibility.

  • This is a very clear video presentation of an inaccessible captcha. I hope many will find this video an eye opener.

  • I am grateful that their are still groups who are advocating for causes that are actually relevant, and not just indulgent nonsense. I hope more sites will start taking accessibility more seriously.

  • thank you for sharing this video! there are people in the social network looking after other people. very mature thing!

  • As a developer I think I'll definately give this site a look over to ensure that I'm giving all of my users a fair shot at viewing my sites.

  • Finally AFB realized that showing is so much better than just telling! Thanks AFB great move!!!
