Alcohol is far more physically detrimental, yet it remains legal under the understanding that those who consume it are taking responsibility for themselves. It's a personal risk assessment, as are most things in life. And no, it carries no major benefits or medical breakthroughs either.

I'm a toxicologist and I cringe everytime I see a news story, and they always find some goofball stoner to interview who has no real education at all. They'll make absolutely stupid claims and then begin talking about the various strains (using names that have almost no meaning with regards to the plant's genetics). Within the so-called "medical marijuana community", scientific understanding is mostly old wives tales.
@PfhUkJiu101 actually its been shown in some schizophrenia patients that it can calm the symptoms down but you do have some spots right if your family has a history of being schizophrenic doing cannabis may increase the chance of you getting it and other then that the only harms are from heavy chronic use which are bronchitis or COPD but that is very rare so overall cannabis is mostly a harmless plant way less harmful then alcohol

They say kids will have easier access, yet all a kid has to do is go to a dealer and buy some weed. That is a lot easier than if it was legalized and you have to have an ID to buy weed. All they need is a fine of at least $5,000 for supplying to a minor and fewer people will supply the drugs. I would say the number of kids getting their hands on weed would drop by 25-50%. As of now, the CDC reported 22.4% of teens admitting to using pot. So that is why regulating pot is needed.

i believe that if it is legalized (I support the legalization) that it will be HARDER for kids to get pot. I'm 16 and I can obtain weed about twice as easy as beer or vodka from a local liquor store. Dealers don't care what age you are, as long as their making a profit. But if marijuana is in a dispensary and they I.D. for it, minors will have trouble obtaining weed from there.

I am sixteen years old, and I can tell you right now, It is much more difficult to find alcohol then it is to find maraijuana. By legalizing marijuana I think that it would actually make it more difficult to get it to minors. Come on, I'm 16 and I can have a legitimate argument against keeping marijuana illegal. We can look at the prohibition against alcohol in the 1920's and see how negativity the economy was affected. Imagine how much legalizing marijuana would do for our suffering economy.
Prop 19 doesn't legalize anything. "Regulate, Control and Taxation" doesnt sound like legalization at all does it. the word "legalize" is not contained anywhere in Prop 19. This is a sucker bill to sign away rights for the ability to buy joints at 7/11. Its sets a horrible standard if passed for other states. Prop 19 says you really cant grow your own, and if you do almost impossible and local governments can bypass search warrant with "code enforcement" reasons. VOTE NO on 19

@motomissle, good point. Anyone who has experience using cannabis and has also drank alcohol knows their is a HUGE difference. I have NEVER puked from smoking crazy amounts of weed. You cannot overdose, and it is not toxic to your body. Most people don't realize that the plant contains the same cannabinoids our bodies already make on its own, via the endocannabinoid system. @thash1127 Dude I agree completely that weed doesn't impair cause I was higher than the moon and I got to drive my moms car (1st time) and I did better than my twin sister who was sober and she also drives all the time with my other sister. When your high you become a perfectionist and you can drive so much better, I even saw a article where they had this guy drive sober, then high the next day, then drunk as shit. He did better high than sober and when he was drunk he almost hit like 2 poles.

But yeah it kills the glioma cells which are rouge cells that grow exponentially in the brain and spine. But it grows them back and more in the process after smoking. THC is even in breastmilk and still weed is illegal. If it was legal there wouldn't be as much crime as there is now and the money can go towards schools and such.

@PfhUkJiu101 actually its been shown in some schizophrenia patients that it can calm the symptoms down but you do have some spots right if your family has a history of being schizophrenic doing cannabis may increase the chance of you getting it and other then that the only harms are from heavy chronic use which are bronchitis or COPD but that is very rare so overall cannabis is mostly a harmless plant way less harmful then alcohol

They say kids will have easier access, yet all a kid has to do is go to a dealer and buy some weed. That is a lot easier than if it was legalized and you have to have an ID to buy weed. All they need is a fine of at least $5,000 for supplying to a minor and fewer people will supply the drugs. I would say the number of kids getting their hands on weed would drop by 25-50%. As of now, the CDC reported 22.4% of teens admitting to using pot. So that is why regulating pot is needed.

i believe that if it is legalized (I support the legalization) that it will be HARDER for kids to get pot. I'm 16 and I can obtain weed about twice as easy as beer or vodka from a local liquor store. Dealers don't care what age you are, as long as their making a profit. But if marijuana is in a dispensary and they I.D. for it, minors will have trouble obtaining weed from there.

I am sixteen years old, and I can tell you right now, It is much more difficult to find alcohol then it is to find maraijuana. By legalizing marijuana I think that it would actually make it more difficult to get it to minors. Come on, I'm 16 and I can have a legitimate argument against keeping marijuana illegal. We can look at the prohibition against alcohol in the 1920's and see how negativity the economy was affected. Imagine how much legalizing marijuana would do for our suffering economy.

Prop 19 doesn't legalize anything. "Regulate, Control and Taxation" doesnt sound like legalization at all does it. the word "legalize" is not contained anywhere in Prop 19. This is a sucker bill to sign away rights for the ability to buy joints at 7/11. Its sets a horrible standard if passed for other states. Prop 19 says you really cant grow your own, and if you do almost impossible and local governments can bypass search warrant with "code enforcement" reasons. VOTE NO on 19

the thing about it being made easier for kids to get is absolutley false. In fact, it would make it harder, think about it, for underage teens such as myself, to get alcohol means waiting outside the liqourstore or asking a stranger to buy it for you, its a hastle, but i know many dealers and obtaining pot is as simple as one phone call

It is easier for a minor to get marijuana than to get alcohol. That is a simple fact. the gate keepers for marijuana are already doing something illegal so there is no incentive to check ID's. the store that sells alcohol has much to lose if they don't.
If you are against legal regulated marijuana but drink alcohol, you are an ignorant hypocrite. Alcohol(and gambling for what it is worth) do much more harm to families.

I find misleading any 'safety' arguments around prohibition as there is no way an economy that size is 'safer' - quality control, links to harder drugs in the black market.

@motomissle, good point. Anyone who has experience using cannabis and has also drank alcohol knows their is a HUGE difference. I have NEVER puked from smoking crazy amounts of weed. You cannot overdose, and it is not toxic to your body. Most people don't realize that the plant contains the same cannabinoids our bodies already make on its own, via the endocannabinoid system. There is more to this debate than douche-bag Fox news lets on.

I hate when people look down upon something like smoking cannibis just because of the fact that it is illegal. If anything, reverse them - alchohol should be legalized and marijuana should be decriminalized.

I fucking drive all the time when I'm high and I tend to drive with my hands at 3 and 9 o clock and isn't distracted by anything, because im high, so being responsible is not a drag lol

@thash1127 Dude I agree completely that weed doesn't impair cause I was higher than the moon and I got to drive my moms car (1st time) and I did better than my twin sister who was sober and she also drives all the time with my other sister. When your high you become a perfectionist and you can drive so much better, I even saw a article where they had this guy drive sober, then high the next day, then drunk as shit. He did better high than sober and when he was drunk he almost hit like 2 poles.

@thash1127 I have seen it, it's an amazing documentary have you seen Grass or the one that's worded like "The Truth Behind Getting High" (cant remember name). But yeah it kills the glioma cells which are rouge cells that grow exponentially in the brain and spine. But it grows them back and more in the process after smoking. THC is even in breastmilk and still weed is illegal. If it was legal there wouldn't be as much crime as there is now and the money can go towards schools and such.
