I have made a FRID scanner in line with a panel antenna. Rang i have gotten mine working is 6 feet. I have yet to see a anyone use, secure FRID. When I do Pen Testing on networking for any company a simple drive by any of the employees out "smoking or eating" can pick up the FRID tag, when you have access to the building.
yo stop arguing about terrorists. ur all losers. fact is that rfid is easy to hack, nd it should b advanced further by the current largest producer of rfid tech, nd dats NXP.
You're an idiot. Security is the fault of everyone. If people called for better security, developers would be required to increase their security measures. Random insults about the US government only show blind ignorance on your part. You want a security threat? How about pervasive surveillance cameras in the UK that capture one crime for every 1000 cameras? Talk about piss-poor security...
@MaleAdaptor RFID might be a security concern, but its no different in that regard than most other information technology advances. When the information is both sensitive and mishandled. Both the telegraph and the internet required a learning curve in terms of security. The fact that so many people are concerned while the technology is still in its infancy tells me we will learn what info is too sensitive and how it best should be handled before major mistakes are made.
rfid is just bizarre ... all you need is a cheap $50 rfid reader/writer and a blank programmable rfid chip and getting your hands on the original rfid chip for a few seconds and you can do this...
and if there is an encryption, its still a piece of cake for experienced ppl....
Im not scary, im just telling the opportunities it creates for terrorist... And you CAN READ NATIONALITY without authentication of e-passport... If you know the birthdate, docnmr and expr date you can read the full e-passport incl jpg-2000 img... The key is written PLAINTEXT on the passport itself. Tell me what a Faraday Cage is Mr. Expert...
Its a design problem, if the metal case could be designed like a "Victorinox Swiss Army Knive" you just release the card ( from the case ) whem you need.
So release, use, put back inside the metal cover... simple... The thief could use any kind of electronic sniffer, he never will get the DATA by air....

People give your lives to God. Read God's word, which is ofcourse the Bible. Turn away from the sin. People don't believe in God because they don't want to believe in Hell. Not believing in something will not change reality. Stop running to the Devil trying to escape Hell. RUN TO GOD! Then people say, well God is cruel because He puts people in Hell. People choose their own path, and God tries to stop people from choosing Hell. God always works through people. GIVE YOUR LIVES TO GOD PLEASE! Ok?
What are people comming to? What are you people androids? Give your lives to God; Who's Son is Jesus Christ. You'll never find hapiness in thgis world, and yes, you will die one day. It is probably sooner than you think too. People are afraid of Hell so they choose not to believe it; so they turn themselves to the Devil and enjoy the sins in life.
Joe your point is ON THE MARK. It's NOT the technology it's the 'implementation'.
These Gov't facilities need to update their access control systems. A good start would be to use Randomized-Hash based security on the cards they carry and then get readers that support Silent Tree Walking.
I like to suggest 2 factor authentication too. Those new german car keys have the key + the RFID tag inside. (let's not forget that someone could video my key remotely and with enough detail copy it).
Just as keys can be copied and duplicated and credit cards and personal information can be stolen or hijacked so can RFID technologies. Especially if not deployed properly. This is NOT the be-all end all...it is simply another piece of technology to add to a "technology layer cake" that we are being forced to create because this wonderful nirvana that you all seem to think you are living in AINT SO WONDERFUL for the rest of us.
Hundreds of RFID tags are already installed in DC drivers licenses and many more in other applications.. As you know these are passive transponders, no need of an internal battery.. They remain inactive for an indefinite time until a reader transmits electromagnetic energy within the reader transmission zone..
Imagine this scenario, terrorists integrate a RFID onto an improvised explosives device placed somewhere the target is likely to pass by and specific ID triggers the assassination..
Theres millions of Wifi Routers, Cell phone Towers, etc... imagine terrorist using a cell phone wrapped to a bomb activing by GSM towers... imagine terrorists using one GPS WIFI phone like Nokia N95 wrapped to a bomb activating over Wifi and using the GPS to ensure the right position... Why terrorist should be pay atention in RFID ? c'mom ....You are watching ZEITGEIST too much....
Anyway, I'm not saying terrorist would prefer this over some other technology because actually my point is that the RFID chip is a better mouse trap for targeting specific individuals.. so forget about terrorists doing random mischief, RFID will be used for assassinations..
You are stupid and ignorant... RFID is a MUCH (!!!) better technology for terrorists than WIFI, GPS, etc... Terrorist try to target specific ppl, and with RFID passports thats possible. Your identity and NATIONALITY are easy to read. For example: the bomb only detonates when there are only Americans in the field, or more then 10 americans.. Or when Obama comes close to the bomb... Can you imagine the power of RFID for terrorist now?
are you sure that you know about how RFID works ?? Im saying that because I'm a developer and I already made almost 10 products RFID embebed . So instead you keep scary like a little girl, try to understand first...
First of all, could you plaese explain HOW is it possible to READ Obamas passaport ??? Do you know what FARADAY CAGE's means in electronics ?? If you dont know, please shut up.. little girl...
Because for 1. - ALL of these technologies use RF and ALL put out or "emit" as MUCH or more RF Energy than 99% of the FCC part 15 compliant RFID Technologies that are being used today. 2. And most of all, they ALL can compromise your personal Identification, security and personal information.
Folks, I have worked with this technology for 19 years and, frankly, most of you "rocket scientists" have not got a FREAKIN CLUE what you are taking about. I hope NONE of you have cell phone, use toll-tags to breeze through the bridges, and highways around the US, have a cordless phone in you home or use WiFi technology for that matter.
"Those who would trade freedom for security deserve niether." - Benjamin Franklin Also do you know your state as to pay for this to be implimented with no help from the federal government, So you have to pay for them obviously they dont really work the point is to track your every move and require MORE government in your life with face scanners mean while illegal aliens move freely but you are tracked. Doesn't this seem like 1984 (the book)
We all know and feel what these chips are made for ?! right ?!
There is no place for "discussions" anymore...or will you look everyday out of your window and what you see is a government which is cutting our liberty and freedom day by day.....
for far too many these days, to be a jew, particularly in the US, is to be moved by the holocaust..this leads to people acting like nazis to prevent Nazism.dangerous and ludicrous. All technology used for the common good is great! But the same technology can also be used for malicious intent for those who have no regard for the common good.
In a recent online poll conducted by MSNBC, asking "Will you get microchipped now that it has been revealed that studies are linking tumors in lab animals to the implants?" 83% of answers (3841 respondees) said NO WAY. Only 6.9% thought it was worth the risk with the remaining 10% not sure. (see: msnbc dot msn dot com slash id slash 20648530)

RFIDs (1) often banal, sending out a fixed response in response to a fixed query, partially a result of their low power requirements; and (2) have no off switch - including when the card is in your briefcase and out of view.
As we continue to increase security, we lose more and more of our freedom. As we lose more and more of our freedom, we have less and less of the fundamental principles on which our founding fathers built this fucking thing. Suddenly we find that we are not free, we are being watched, and kept under control, because should we decide that the government is wrong, well, then we would be 'against them', and therefore have become the enemy.
If a government can mandate seatbelt laws, then they surely can mandate RFID chips, at least IN the Identification Cards for now, but soon to follow will be the more convenient implanted chip, as a way to even further protect yourself from would be purse snatcher RFID chip stealing terrorists. It was a deliberate choice not to secure them.
So they can propose a better option later: the implanted chip.

its easy to solve the problem...
just put the card in a small metal case, the interrogator can't read through the metal.

Neither can the readers....so if you can't read them, then what purpose do they serve?
