i got the Rhino nuggets cd box set for christmas. This track (which can be found on disc 3 of the set) sounds amazingly ahead of its time. Considering what would follow in rock (punk, metal, grunge, etc.), it has aged well. Hats off to this group for a damn fine job! ;)
Yeah I see what everyone means about Love, it just never even entered my mind. Less polished and more brutal than Love, it didn't connect for me, though I see why others think that. The rest of the album isn't really like this song, kinda like the album Hot Smoke and Sassafras is on. Kick ass song, ...and other ok tunes.
Love this song. Covered it in a couple of my bands. Funny, I never thought of LOVE at all. Maybe sorta 7&7 is, but who knows if that song was an influence?? Chords are E A C D in a few combinations.
A 5 star song: You Must Be A Witch - The Weeds - 1967 - "Their BEST known song when they were known as "Lollipop Shoppe"." - The Weeds aka The Lollipop Shoppe (Way Back)-2007. NOTE: Fred Cole headquartered in Portland, Oregon went on to become Dead Moon (Garage-Rock Revival-Punk)~1990.
@NcicHit Thanks. You know I probably should have said it's more the vocal and curt expressions that's like Lees but the song has Arthur song sensibility and anger as in 7&7 is. Oop-ip-ip oop-ip-ip, yeah! Stephanie Knows Who and less so my favorite "house is not a motel": The news today will be the movies for tomorrow / And the water's turned to blood/ and if You don't think so/ go turn on your tub /And it it's mixed with mud / You'll see it turn to gray ..
Yeah. The drumming is great but almosat impossible to hear on the original recording. On the remastered CD however, all the details shine thru. But, a powerful song nonetheless. Stay rock
Had dinner/breakfast with Fred and his wife about 3 weeks ago when the Pierced Arrows played in Spokane. I couldn't believe there were only about a dozen people at the show, but it wasn't well advertised. I bought their meal. Hadn't seen each other in almost 30 years, but he recognized me before I even opened my mouth to say hello. It was great to hang with them again.
Alas, Fred Cole is a legend who can't get arrested in the Northwest. He's been playing to half-full clubs since the late 70s at least. Local musicians respect and love him, though. Thank God for Europe!
Killer Track ... just got the lp to my home yesterday i ordered off ebay. Killer psych!! The Weeds is such a better name than Lollipop shoppe. None the less the album is Great!!
Like the '13th floor elevators', well ahead of their time. I fell privileged to have heard Fred sing this at three Dead Moon gigs, and i wear their tattoo with pride:)

I'm seeing a few covers of this song onyoutube's suggestions on the side of the screen. So is this the original? Either way, it's my favorite

@CrazeeTori9 Yes, this is the original version.

Respond to this video... And you could say that Dead Moon's version is "original" seeing as it's Fred Cole.
