i think the tires on those bad boys are about 10K each. so 40K to put some fresh tires on that monster truck. it would be bad ass, but that is a LOT of moolah for some tires. i am aware of the size of them.
@globemaster68 You are pretty far off on the price of those tires I work on the Komatsu haul trucks up there I work for Cummins. The tires are around 80k a piece and they have 6 on each truck. The trucks on this video are Cats and they have smaller tires, not sure on price of them.
They'rd better be a walmart down there. Seriously, doesn't it look like there might be? I don't know why I'm so amused by that thought...don't mind me it's late night and I'm rambling
Don't know what these mine owners have to brag about. You don't see videos of the pollution caused from the arsenic and toxic dust created. These operations run under the guise of creating jobs and benefiting the economy but at what cost. Until we learn to be better stewards, this will continue to be our future. That is if we have a future after copper mining.
I've worked there for several years now. the video doesn't do it any justice in how big this sucker really is. And, while driving those trucks was pretty cool at first, gets boring as hell after about a month.
My father in law operated shovels at the Bingham mine for 36yrs. Started when he was 16yrs old. In memory of Bud Parry. Loved you major dude. You was like a real father to me.
Bagdad copper mine in Bagdad, Az is a big mother trucker too! They run 793 rock trucks and god knows what size P&H shovels! It used to be owned by Phelps-Dodge,corp but it was bought out in 2007 I belive and I cant remember by whom. Look it up if you get the chance, very impressive!
I had the chance to visit this mine in september 2009. It's an ingredibly big hole. I'd love to go inside, not just see the visitor center. Even better would be driving one of those giant trucks.
Special thanks to mining company, the opening hours are great, came there friday 4pm. Visitor center accessable till 8pm.
Trust me. The thrill wears off in a few months. I drove overburden trucks for over 23yrs. Now I load them. Cat trucks are for old men. Now Uclids on the other hand, like the R-170's are a blast to drive on slick roads. They have better steering geometry and you can get sideways like a go-kart on grease.
I work in an hard rock mine in nw montana. We mine silver and copper, but the majority is copper. There are over 200 miles of tunnel that has been mined in the mountain. I drive 50 ton haul trucks, but they are not quite as big as the trucks for the open pit mines. I would love to drive one of those trucks though, at least I would be outside. That is what I hate about my job, not seeing the sunlight and the exhaust fumes. Gets old after a while!
@mtpwrstroke Are you still living in Montana? I was wondering if you can help me out. Are you familiar with the Basin Gulch Mine around your area? PM me and we'll talk more.
Cool video but epic fail on the music.

The Morenci mine in Arizona is likely even bigger than Bingham canyon but I don't think that they offer tours.
doctorwinter' Please take a geology course and you will understand how the copper ore got into these places.
