I have been told that Armalite will begin production again in 2010.
Armalite screwed itself by offering an introductory price of around $500 when they first came out, then upping the price to that of competing AR-15's. Sales dropped dramatically after that. Hopefully they learned their lesson. I would like to buy and T&E an AR-180B when they come back out.
Do the newr AR-180Bs take Magpul magazines? The older AR-18s wouldn't.
@rodlpz Doesn't look like they ever came out with that replacement. I picked up a real nice used one, but sure would like to see a newer design of same. Even a staped steel receiver would work well.
I want one, I have a Valmet M76 in .223 and its good, very reliable, even with reloads. The gas system is self-cleaning as the 180 is. Pity the M16 aint.
I have the original AR-180 with the folding stock. I like it.. They are good guns. The piston system keeps all the carbon out of the reciever. So they are very easy to clean. I've put 1000's of rounds through mine with almost no problems.
My AR-180 original says Armalite on it. But it was made by Howa in Japan.
The originals were made by Armalite, Howa and Sterling. Bushmaster brought back the AR-180 as the AR-180B or Bravo. It still uses the piston gas system. But lacks a swivel stock, metal lower and right side mag catch. It instead has a polymer lower that is similar to that of the AR-15 design and will accept the same mags.
The AR-180B is not a bad gun for the money. They do make a swivel stock modification for it.
@KingCommando32 Actually using a light loaded .223 its not that bad of recoil. As long as you have a little strength to hold the barrel up you can do it, not very practical though.
check out nutinfancy's review of the kel tec su-16c part 2 he shows a picitiny rail section that you can screw on to guns so you dont have to change to a free floating rail fore grip
whats the quality, accuracy, and reliability of it... i have never woned an armalite so idk how good the ar180b by them would be... i am guessing its more reliable seeing how its a piston operating system as compaired to direct gas impigment like the finiky ar15s... just wondering cuz i am thinking about buying one
dp665 if you buy one you wont be sorry 4 inch groups at 120 yards without a scope [thats as far as i have shot] 1500 rounds with no malfunctions at all and when you go to clean it its not even dirty
It's an awesome rifle. Very accurate (even better than AR-15 variants) and far more reliable. Stock and forearm feels a bit "cheap" - but it is not. This rifle was designed by Stoner to fix all the issues with the AR-15 and to be lighter to carry. Manufacturer tests accuracy to be 1 - 1.5 MOA, which is what I have found as well.
I JUST GOT A AR-180B WITH 5/20 RD MAGS.HAVE SHOT AN ORIGINAL
AR-180 A LONG TIME AGO( 30 YRS).I DO MISS THE SIDE FOLDING STOCK
BUT LIKE YOU CAN USE REG. AR-15 MAGS.PUT A 250 RD. BRICK OF UMC
556 THE FIRST WEEKEND THROUGH IT.SHOT BETTER THAN MY MINI-14
TACTICAL.I PLAN TO WORK ON THE STOCK AND THE HANDGUARD,BUT
I'M SOLD.

Mine takes any magazine that fits an AR15 style rifle. I use polymer Magpul and Ramline along with the aluminum one it came with.

This is the gun the g36 and pretty much any other gun with a short stroke gas piston are based upon.

Bushmaster and they ended production...
DobermansRock 2 years ago
Bushmaster? The AR180 is an Armalite.
C172Pilotdude 2 years ago
The AR-180B is from Bushmaster. I am not sure but think they stopped production.
DobermansRock 2 years ago
My rifle is an ArmaLite AR-180B, new production made by ArmaLite when I bought it last year. I don't think they are still making this model.
I tried to find it on their site and all they have are accessories.
PAINTANK 2 years ago
Really I thought only Bushmaster went back into production with them. Does it say Armalite AR-180B made by Bushmaster on the side?

My 180B says armalite on it

@DobermansRock
I seen in the movie Terminator, Arnold uses a Ar-180 and removes the stock so he can hold it one handed. Is this possible to do? Or is this fictional
andrewvanrhoberts 2 years ago
The one in Terminator was an original version with a sidefolding stock. The stock was folded. This one is new with a fixed stock.
PAINTANK 2 years ago
@andrewvanrhoberts You could hold it one handed but it would be crazy recoil
panda2621 11 months ago
@andrewvanrhoberts
You mean holding it one handed? Try working out like Arnold before doing so.

AR180B's are American made. The old AR18's were made in all three of the mentioned countries.

I want to put a flashlight on mine without changing the hand guards. Has anybody seen someone do that?

This is an AR180 though. It is not the AR type that you must be referring to.
This rifle is superior to the AK because it's made in America and not Peoples Tractor Factory #265.
