Aayan is not "outspoken". The definition of outspoken is: "uttered or expressed with frankness or without reserve". It generally implies a certain lack of tactfulness or sensitivity. No, Islam never abolished slavery. As I said before, Muhammad, owned, bought and sold slaves. Alcohol and et cetera is prohibited outright without question, so the same could have been done with slavery. One clear statement abolishing it. But, you don't have that in Islam.

Aayan is not "outspoken". The definition of outspoken is: "uttered or expressed with frankness or without reserve". It generally implies a certain lack of tactfulness or sensitivity. Aayan, in contrast, is always respectful and thoughtful in expressing her views. And as far as "controversial", if society has come to a point where it's controversial to be against women being beaten, then society is not in a good place.

The Iranian host should include in his research the Koran. He's from a Muslim family but probably has limited knowledge. May I suggest The Complete Infidel's Guide to the Koran by Robert Spencer. I bring this up because 200-220 years ago wasn't really all that long ago and western culture can be thought of as beeing a few hundred years ahead of African and Middle Eastern culture. She is saying that, for those who feel they cannot live without a god, it is better that they be Christian than Muslim. That may be true but to say that modern Christianity is not as bad as Islam isn't setting the bar very high. I kept hoping Jian would remind her that GW Bush stated that God told him to invade Iraq.
