ARTICLE 1. A player of the receiving team within the boundary lines
attempting to catch a kick, and so located that he could have caught a free
kick or a scrimmage kick that is beyond the neutral zone, must be given an
unimpeded opportunity to catch the kick
I'm glad it went Auburn's way but the referees got the call wrong. It doesn't matter if McCalebb touched Rainey or not, he didn't give him enough room to catch the ball.
You have to give the receiver of the punt room to catch it, which McCaleb did not. There is no "halo rule" in college football like the announcers though, it is just a judgement call for the officials to make to determine if Rainey had room to catch it. He did not and the call was missed. This one play really cost Florida the game...
If you forward it to 1:20 you can clearly see the ball hit the AU player first wich should have been florida's ball. But it wouldn't have mattered anyway we just would have punted
It's not like McCalebb touched him. He didn't. Will wasn't able to see what we saw and saw that he did not touch him, so all of the yelling to the officials didn't make it any better, and they told him to come down and they will tell him. He didn't and when I watched the game replay I heard him telling the ref's, "where's the back judge, that was absolute bullshit". The play was legal, almost doesnt count. Will just needs to relax sometimes and judge the refs after the game.
@Gat0rsUF That ball did not hit the AU player.......The AU player was in high pursuit and he had to keep himself from touching the player and the ball and backed away. I was there and if you had the angle I had then you would see for yourself...
anyone wanna give credit to Steven Clark for the booming punt thats hard to catch.

Thanks for the win Florida. Four mishaps from the Florida special teams and we walked away winners. WDE!

@auburntigerfan91 it makes sense but the refs have studied these rules for a long time and i would think they can judge it better

@MrAUFANATIC How was the play legal? The ball hit the AU player in the shoulder pad and then the knee...

Stay classy, Auburn.

@roygullem You do realize that that is FLORIDA's coach causing the scene, right?
mikespeed20082 4 months ago
@roygullem explain the unclassiness of Auburn.... Will muschamp was the one who called a timeout to yell at the refs.
