  • I'm a hearing ASL student. What I understood of the video was good.

It would be nice if you could subtitle it so that those of us that aren't fluent in ASL can also understand the meaning of your videos.

  • @Panthisia perhaps we should ask spanish speakers to dumb it down, too.

  • wrf , no offence but wtf , a little warning would have been nice lol

  • braille is for blind people, and I'm pretty sure she's not blind. I don't personally know her so I could be wrong.

Deaf people and Hard of Hearing people can read, and I know some that can even speak clearer then some hearing people I know.

  • I used to swear alot but I dont anymore. People were easily offended by it....

  • I am with you, I think these people should put "R" to "G" on their website better than insulting these people with stupid reason. I hope more to see your vlog on your website, i don't know if you have it or not!

  • I'm still getting my feet wet in the Vlog world. Thanks for cheering me on. Who knows? Maybe I'll take a plunge!

  • Good vlog. ASL signs and English words can and do have different meanings. For instance, English word "pissed off" is considered profanity but in ASL the sign which corresponds with the English phrase "pissed off" does not necessarily have the same meaning. I think many of us forget that ASL and English are two seperate languages and you cannot always have a direct correspondence between words and signs.

  • Total separate entities. Right on! Thanks for your input.

  • I am constantly having to explain this to my ASL students. For example: What would be the ASL word for the English "jerk", as in a rude person? Tricky question to answer to high school students... :) There's no direct translation.

  • Hey Meme,

I love your ASL Vlog. Are you going to set up your own website. You bring good perspective to ASL Vlogland. Chuck Baird said I mouthed S**T when I signed it the first time then closed my mouth when I did it second time. Maybe I should mouth less like you do! Wink!

    David

  • Ain't easy to do this :-X , I know. Got any tricks to keep our mouths shut? Anyone?

  • Hey Me2! I swear you don't even age a bit and you look great. I thought about you and wondered how you are doing. I trust all your kids should be big by now.

Anyway, I do sometimes use my middle finger. It doesn't mean F--- word. It can mean ignoring other people, refuse to do something or damn you depending on movement of middle finger (not upward but sideward or group using both middle fingers.) Keep up with all those harmless, clean swearing! ;-) Hugzzzz, Bob Rourke

  • :-p Good to hear from you! Together we keep Deaf America clean, won't we?

  • I like your video editing - nice special effects to emphasize certain signs. Also, did you see the episode of "Jericho" when Shoshana Stern used ASL instead of simcom? She used a sign that many people gloss as the F-word, but in context, it just meant intercourse, not a swear word like "F--- you!" On DeafRead blogs, some people were upset, but it seemed like the people with greater ASL fluency were not bothered by it. Interesting topic. Thanks.

  • You may have nailed it right there about the greater ASL fluency, the more likely not bothered. Wonder how come? Is it because of the fluency that those signs look so naturally right? Hmmm...There oughta be some study on the correlation.

  • Im sorry I have to disagree with you. SHIT is a bad word regardless what you meant to say. Would you say "SHIT" to your kids? probably not because it is a bad word. I don't use profane language because it IS NOT necessary to use it. I mean what's the point of using bad language ??? We need to respect others by not using bad language, You never know any bad words might offend others ..You won't know until someone gives you a strange look, then you'll know it.

  • Of course, we all have to exercise our judgment. We have to tap into our common sense to talk appropriately in accord to the type of listeners. Just like books or movies, there are so many unnecessary words but censorship won't help erase what's really going on in our world. It kind of gives us an insight into the climate of our era. It's ok to stick to your guns tho. We all need a good balance of everything in our life.

  • Good to see you Meme. You look same. :) I agree, I thought it was unnecessary to be apologetic about such a word. Human expression should not be censored by a few. Let it flow, with some judgment, of course.

  • Hey there! Glad to see you still truckin' after all those years! Still a Who fan?

  • Finally got tired of 'em last year, haha. With Gally protest and grad school that year, it's time to stop dancing I suppose. I'll do my one year anniv. for "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss" of my 1st youtube video this Sat. :)

    Keep on vlogging.

  • yeah, i agree with u abt david's sign. u know some of people are sensitive, so..

my comment for him was "i usually talk "shit" which isnt a big deal cuz i talk like that to myself such as like "oh no" or "darn it" something like that. u have a good vlog. yeah, right welcome to a new world lol :)
