When I was a kid I looked up to the US for it's freedom of speech, and for the American dream, the "think big" mentality...something I found my own country was lacking.

But as I grew up I saw many videos of police brutality, war crimes etc. I learned that 1% of the US population is in jail and another 2.2% are out on parole/probation. Much more than in China in both absolute and relative numbers. I saw police and army officials lie with straight faces.

To go further, the man wasn't being searched, he was being beaten.
