Thailand is controlled by the army which is totally loyal to the King. Any challenge to the king will be handled by the army in however way possible, legal or not.
Now Thailand is trying to "educate" would-be western tourists about any potential offense to the King hoping that tourists don't make such mistake.
My advice to Thailand is "they are commiting suicide for their tourist industry." Western tourists definitely don't like to spend their money and feel lack of freedom.

It is the airport authority who ordered the shutdown of the airports, not PAD. The airport could still function well. PAD only obstructed the road outside, while there are four other levels of easy accesses to the airport buildings. PAD did not interfere with the -passengers-officers-secured zones -airport control. It is the smear of the government on PAD because the Head of the airport authority is a brother-in-law of Weera, the leader of red UDD, a big supporter of the government and Thaksin

Please do not get the wrong impression about Thai people over this most Thai are friendly peaceful and welcoming. PAD, however, is a minority of elite and are selfish and corrupt. I hope when this is all over, they issue a $10 billion lawsuit against all the PAD organizers to make up for the damage they have caused. I'm amazed at how many of my expat friends have bought into the bs about Thaksin being the worst thing to ever happen to Thailand. Things were very good under Thaksin, unless you were a drug dealer. My expat friends also think King Bhum is a "good guy," despite the fact that he recently put a westerner in acrowded jail for a month for merely writing a novel that mentioned the royal family.

You cannot expect a constitutional monarch to step and intervene into politics, the last two times he intervened was when there was a civil war outbreak...this could all just end if the government would just resign (go blame it on somchai) we have a political deadlock here and there's no other way but to protest...besides the order to close the airport were made by the officials not the PAD.

It's a bold statement to say it goes down the drain. It been always " turbulent" In Thailand nothing new. Now the strike at the heart of the economy. Ppl forget that the king can stop this at ANY given moment. I live in Thailand for 1 year now. I conduct business now (that there is non as of now) Because ppl cannot leave or come in. I agree its a serious blow to Thailands reputation. But it will be fine again after this shit is over.

They should stop this nonsense as soon as possible... Even if they succeeded in forming a new government after this action, I do not think the international community will support them. They are digging their own graves. I do not want to hear more nonsense in the future such as thailand economy crumbled due to rapid fall of tourism(caused by this action) and they ask international community for help. Let them taste their own medicine especially the PAD. One should be responsible in their action.
