@ItsRyanCulterBroski lol I've heard Nicholas Cage, but I've also heard ELMO (yes, it's true!). Thanks so much for watching - and happy Valentine's Day to you.
@westend104: Your living room is gorgeous. How do you spruce up a studio apartment without spending too much money? I have a brown couch and loveseat. The carpet is beige. The wall is white. I like my house to look warm and exciting. But not flamboyant. I'm a bachelorette. I don't want to scare the visitors away. LOL.
@ranisha29 Thanks so much for watching - and your kind comments made our day! Hope your new year is filled with health and beauty (and great decorating, too).
@zara1saif Thanks so much, Zara! The lighting is a lot of fun, and it's nice to mix it up. Having many of the lights on a dimmer switch helps us control the mood, to either create a good deal of light or to make the mood more mellow, dramatic, or romantic. Have a great day!!!
@dmixtress Thanks so much for your very kind words! After a week in New York City, coming to this house in rural Pennsylvania is a real pleasure. This room is great for entertaining, too. We've had over 40 people milling around, and it breaks down nicely with a bit of extra seating brought in, for folks to hang out in small groups and chat.
Well, that's lovely! Thanks so much for watching. Here are two inexpensive suggestions: you can go to our Design2Share website for decorating tips, advice, and inspiration. We also have a new I Can Decorate! app available for the iPhone. Good luck and happy decorating in the New Year!
Thanks so much! What's fun is that interiors keep changing around all the time. We know some folks like to keep things only one way, but we think that's too much like living in a museum; unless it's part of the plumbing (like a toilet, tub, or sink), it can be moved around from room to room to freshen up the look. We're having fun -- and thanks so much for watching and your kind comments! All the best, Jay
Thank you very much, aarazasa! The collections of local objects from flea markets, antique stores, and auctions added a sense of groundedness and reality to the space. We looked for objects that spoke to us and wanted a new home with other interesting things. Again, many thanks for watching! Best regards, Jay
My pleasure! The dining room does have curtains but the living room doesn't. The large plantings of bamboo along the road shield the living room from view of the street, so we thought it would be great to keep it open and sunny with a view out to the front yard. If we were to put in curtains, I'm sure we would put full-length sheers on decorative hardware.
Thank you, Santuri! It used to be a closed-in farmhouse with a very raggedy look and feel to it. It got freshened up a lot. Appreciate your watching and your comment!
Chrispy, you are too kind!! There is a lot of "fate" about this decorating style. Possessions are temporary. People come and go. Houses and apartments are decorated, vacated, then decorated again. We attract the things we're meant to take care of . . . for the moment. Videos help us preserve those decorating moments in time. Keep looking for those perfect things, Chrispy, and they will definitely come to you for your home!
well... when I get a home... ^_^ I love designing homes and I'm thinking of going to school to be an architect... you have a lot of talent! I love watching your vids!
Thank you so much! But I can't take the decorating talent; my partner Irwin is a professional interior designer (see his weekly podcast on the Design2Share website). I'm so glad you enjoy watching, too! I feel fortunate to have so many cool things around me to shoot. Wait until you see our neighbor's DOG HOTEL! She built little houses decorated just for dogs. I about wet my pants when I first saw them!!!
unique, original, great blend...Not really vrazy about the frame on top of collection is not really the best, maybe just one dark solid frame to make the glass stand out on it's own. Nice description and tour.
thanks, tripleventi! do you mean the white frame around the large photo? (it was a price compromise; you caught us!) would love to see you post videos of where you live, too. Canada is a favorite place of ours.
Beautiful and inspirational. Thanks for sharing!
