excelent film its always makes me cry and its teach us that we have to accept to other people who sorrounds us in our society no matter if they have defects in the face or in their bodies
Cette musique de John Morris est absolument incroyable et elle est d'ailleurs à l'image du film de David Lynch . Elephant man est un des plus beau films au monde . Chef-d'oeuvre .
I've just watched The Elephant Man for the first time and loved it. Its quite different from what actually happened though. For one, his name was Joseph Merrick not John Merrick and he wasn't as helpless as he seemed in the film. He was actually in a lot more in control of his own life. Still a sad story though. R.I.P Joseph Merrick, compared to a lot of people in the world, you were beautiful.
Only reason I'm listening to this is because my teacher put it on as we staged a brecht/creepy version of Find Me. I liked it and found it on here, now looking through comments i feel i should watch it...
While the movie may have fictionalized certain situations, the intent of all art is to portray the creator's vision and shape it into a powerful message. This film is artistically and thematically unforgettable. When it was released, it also raised awareness of a condition from which others were suffering in relative silence, even in our more enlightened age (Proteus syndrome in probable combination with neurofibromatosis). An astonishing movie!

When I was at school in the 80s we had a lad who did an excellent elephan man impression. He even looked like the elephant man....we used to beat him.
Just consider this man really existed. It breaks my heart to a million pieces thinking of his agony. If he were alive now no matter the cost I would want to protect him just as Dr Treeves did.
He existed, but he was not treated nearly as badly in real life as he was in the movie. Read Wikipedia's article on the movie - namely the "historical inaccuracies" section.
There's a reason why chinese low quality products are sold in great amounts, doesn't mean they are good. Just like Wikipedia. Anyway, not the theme of the video here so... lets just get over it.
I remember the first time I saw it (and pretty much every time after), I got a tear right when Tony Hopkins tears up, after first seeing John. That wasn't even in the script, it was just a very emotional scene, and it worked out beautifully.
I always cry by the scene, when John Merrick visits the family of "Hopkins" ... when his woman starts to cry, coz John says those things about his mother... and that he is not good son...
and of course the final scene when he goes to sleep with the word DONE... with the beautiful sound of Barber's Adagion in the background... :-)
@Pishtucha Me too. One of the last times I watched it, I cried all the time. And I cried in the happy parts, the parts where he actually felt some kind of happiness. And as soon as I had stopped crying, I started to cry just two minutes later. I cried through the entire movie =(

I love the bit in the film where he ate all the peanuts and spayed his tormentors with water from his trunk.

There are times where wiki can be right you know, and yes, the film is historically inaccurate, wiki isn't the only one that says so.
