Once we are done with Turks it's the English' turn. it's unbelievable in 2010 when both Cyprus and UK are in the EU England still occupies a piece of our beloved island. If UK has a grain of decency should leave Cyprus alone and re-establish our relationship as two equal partner states with the EU. UK military presence in Cyprus is not welcomed unless through a common european defense that all member states participate.

It's Cyprus' soil not returned by the colonial power like the rest of the island in 1960. It's just dispeakable that an EU country would occupy another EU country's land.

They wanted to give it moral grounds. Many Cypriots cited that asd one of the major factors for rejecting the Anan plan

So if the UK is the guarantor of the independence of Cyprus why is Cyprus half occupied? The guarantor powers are the root of all evil in Cyprus. @fairman3456 obviously you dont know or understand the issue. The treaty establishing the UK bases were signed in 1960 as part of the agreements to establish an independent Cyprus. Turkey invaded Cyprus in 1974. It's ok let the british army leave Cyprus and if the Turks attack and we ask for help they are allowed not to help us. The british army and the turkish army need to leave Cyprus alone. We do not want Greece, Turkey and UK as guarantors or allies. We can be friends from a distance.

What you don't understand is that the Republic of Cyprus has been supporting the operational readiness and use of the bases. They have kept their end of the bargain. The USA have designated areas within the bases for their exclusive use.

Britain as guarantor had an obligation to return Cyprus to the initial state of affairs of independence. It did not. It only warned off Turkey when the retained areas were threatened by Turkey.
