  • History and the past are two completely separate concepts. The past is every event that happened. History is what we know about the past, which is not always accurate, it's an interpretation of the past.

  • I always thought that the concept of "progress" was the crucial point of history. Without progress, how do we measure if we are going forwards or backwards? In fact, progress can leach on any other concepts, as well. Say, the progress of "freedom", can measure history as well. Or can we think of history without progress at all? But then we got Nietzche's eternal recurrence where we just don't believe in progress. We keep over and over affirm doing the same mistake.
