Actually putting your hands through the loops of the saw on a tree that size is a very bad idea. If the tree should start to come down suddenly you could get caught up in the loops, even more so with gloves. On small diameter less weight branches this is obviously not as much of a risk a risk. Just my opinion
When in a survival situation the first thing you want to do is to start a logging operation, that way you can make sure you will never run out of wood.
Too bad you spent all your money on branded survival items, but at least you were stylish.
Good video and the products, at least the two I have, are high quality as shown. I have to say though that 100 miles for the mirror is not real. I worked in Saudi Arabia and I have seen a flash from windshields from 8 kilometers or 5 miles though I couldnt even see the prominent hill they were on. . Much past that you couldnt see or hear an airplane anyway. I like that the mirror is lightweight though.
i know you dont need gloves for this product. but the fact you are wearing them the whole time and the gloves show residue im sure it tends to turn people away. it looks very misleading like you are protecting yourself from burns .
and well i think if you have a flashlight with you , of course its better to combine it with the signal mirror, instead of using the flashlight itself !...öhmmm lol
hasnt there been another tool for lighting a fire with a one hand operation ... aww...uh yeah a 50 cent supermarket lighter ... and cause i have enough money i think id take 2 of em with me in a survival situation !
won't a small coffee can, a bic lighter, some cotton balls, a small sewing kit, a razor blade and a garbage bag work decently as a survival kit? not to mention it is stuff lying around your house (most likely)
@jolderon2 well what would you do if u were an urbanite out in the woods with only a water bottle, a cell phone and a snack bar (like many people who get lost in the woods are)? What would u do if u did not have the skills to navigate your way out and you were only prepared for a day hike? Breaking the branches would work, sure a razor is not an ax, but it's better than finger nails and could do some fine work.
I also carry a Kabar Becker 9" Bowie and a Smaller Gerber knife on my belt. So while I agree with the post below about picking my own knike and the knives I carry wont fit in the kit. ITs still a good Idea to have all the items you need in this handy kit on you at all times. My Gerber Multi Tool fits great and its a good knife to have in there. (continued)
@bwarrior This kit is a good start and great to have but I recomend customizing your own and putting the things you want in it. I got a pelican case and added all the same stuff they have plus a lil more and my case is only slightly bigger. Its amazing how much stuff you can fit into something this small. My buddies are in disbelief when they see how much stuff I pull out of this little case.
Instead of buying this kit which costs $69.95 At Cheaper Than Dirt. I bought a slightly bigger case and put a few more things in it. The box I got is the same diminsions but one full inch thicker and I was able to add quite a few items in there. I added a Silva waterproof match holder w/ compass. Also a Silva flat compass. A Gerber Multi Tool. Another Smaller branch saw. Some snare wire. A water proof bag. A Surefire w/p flashlight. Two extra batteries. And rewindable watch. All that you need.
I've seen/used a couple and the BM is by far the best. The steel on it is super thick and even when i've tested it out alot, it has just the slightest of wear. Id say a few thousand times before this thing would be used up. I took a piece of paper and got it soaking wet, put it on some concrete and then hit it with the blast match, where the sparks hit it burnt holes into it and smoked, although it didnt light up. It was amazing to nearly catch a soaking wet piece of paper on fire.
well id say the Blast match is better in that it never shows wear. Even though regular firesteel lasts long, i think that the blastmatch lasts so much longer. Although when ur not using the BM for a while it gets this black powder on it,, which takes just a few swipes to clean off, no biggie. I've also heard that the BM's sparks are alot hotter, and i will say there is WAY more than typical fire steel. Plus it comes spring loaded so 1 hand use,, it makes it so easy. Also the BM's steel is THICK!
@jwka2001 I dont like the blast match because it it too easy to knock all your tender all over the place. I tried useing it when I was cold one time and I was shakeing and I knocked all my tender all over the place and had to start over . After doing this three times I switched and never went back. I Like the other Sure Fire starter better.
I have the blast match, its a dream. It just as easy to start a fire as it shows here. It shoots out ALOT of sparks, and it lights up just about anything. Even paper when i had it soaking wet, the sparks burnt holes into it. Granted it didnt light up,, if the paper was even 'semi dry' it would of went up easy. It is a must have for any survival kit.
I'm glad there's no knife. I want to choose my own knife - that's a very personal item. Furthermore, adding a knife to a kit like this just jacks up the price more. This is a well produced video featuring some high quality survival items (and high quality is not easy to find among survival items and kits). 5-stars

I'm sorry, but they should supply a knife with these survival kits too, cause a knife is a lot more useful in a survival situation then a saw.

Just simply call this stuff a flint will be good
pp99073 2 years ago
your dumb
flint is a rock not a metal
chrissept21 2 years ago
no, this is a metal, not the european stone known as flint.
flint and steel is using a piece of flint to strike off hot pieces of steel off a hard piece of steel.
this stuff uses steel to scrape off hot pieces of METAL from the rod to start a fire.
completely different.
