  • i fond a hurt bunny before it looked like it was abandoned by its mother i just took it in and yea later wee took it to a vet well...i guess you can say it passed away and it was too late...even though i only had it for a few hours i was very sad

  • God bless you for taking care of the little baby duck, you're awesome.

  • @kittenwithagun its not a myth i grew up on a farm and i had alot of ducks and had this problem many times. its the reason why the mother attacked the ducking when you tried to give it back lol. that or its not the mother if the duck doesnt smell like it used to the mother will reject it as her own. regards,

  • Spring Thoughts (PART 5).... I know, I fould my duck at the pond behind my house, or should I say she found me! One of the best pet friends I ever had for 5 years til she mysteriously disappeared on day :- (

  • Spring Thoughts (PART 4).... So if you find one at a pond, or possibly injured or just looking skinny and scraggly it is probably best to fnd a shelter that can properly place or care for it, or take it in your self if you have the desire and know-how to take care of it. NEVER leave one or take it to a pond or lake assuming this is it's natural habitat and will thrive there, this is rarely the case. Thousands are "dumped" at ponds each year and few will survive.

  • Spring Thoughts (PART 3).... These are not wild ducks, they are domesticated; bred over centuries and raised mainly for their meat and eggs (prolific layers, they can lay over 200 eggs/yr!). Pekins cannot fly because of their weight, and have little survival instincts, making them easy prey if out in the wild.

  • Spring Thoughts (PART 2).... At this point, the owners freak out and don't know what to do, so they take them to a pond and leave them. These white ducks with orange beaks like "Donald Duck" or "Aflac" are actually Pekin Ducks, a type of dometic duck. (They are also sometimes referred to as Peking Ducks, aka the kind served in Chinese restaurants. :-( )

  • Spring Thoughts (PART 1)....Since it is Spring, I just wated to share some info on spring chicks or ducks you might see out and about, or think about getting for the kids. Many times, parents will get "easter chicks" for their kids because they are cute, but have no idea of their care and life cycle. The easter chicks in the basket can incredibly grow very large in just 6-8 weeks, as in ADULT SIZE, over 6 lbs. (Incidentally, they can live 15 years or more, so they are not a short term pet!)

  • I found a duckling at my lake house a few years ago, and she'd lost her family... it was sort of like yours (it was a mallard, though), we found its family, but they didn't accept it back, it cried at night, and we didn't know what to feed it (I am an expert on ducklings now, but then I wasn't). Well, it was fine for a while but got sick because it didn't have any duckling feed (we were feeding it bread, seed, and worm, but that wasn't enough) and had to give it to a rehab center. But thank you.

  • That was very kind of you to take it in :)

  • There is a hatchery based in California, Metzer Farms, they sell ducklings, adult ducks, as well as eggs and geese. They are very humane and safe with the ducks. We got ours from this farm and are very happy with them. There is also a waterfowl rescue sancuary Majestic Waterfowl Sanctuary that takes in injured/abused/abandoned ducks. They foster them and give them the option to be adopted out. Just thought this could be some useful information for you and your readers.

  • you are a wonderful person, thank you for sharing a part of your heart, and answering our questions, and also sharing your story, had me bawling like a baby

  • awwwww :DD so cute i realy love it and you are a good person and i subscribed :DD and i realy loved the cute little duckyy :DD

  • hello you are kind to animals for sure but did u not think about taking the duck to the pond ?

  • I had a duck once. My cousin's bought 2 of them at this farm. && When they found out the coulnd't take care of it, they gave it to us :] SInce we didn't have any babies at the moment, the ducks became the baby of the fam XD We loved it and stuff, then one day it just dissapeared T.T I was so sad But yeah <3 the duck

  • Sounds like that little duck knew that it could trust you and that you would help it. Most people wouldn't do what you did.

  • It's nice to know that there are people like these in the world.

  • Please don't buy ducks. Please adopt them at the farm animal rescue. Don't buy any pets. There are too many unwanted and abused animals with no homes. Thank you.

  • the baby duck would have probly died!!!! ur a good person who have cared for it and took it in to be treated well its sad tho that u got so connected to it that had to suck : (

  • @sorazon111 I totally agree with you :')

  • my mom rised ducks and y teacher had baby ducks she could tell by its bill.

And it is good what you did =]

    thumps up!

  • I loved your duck strory and your little duck - he is SO adorable. Just like you, I raised a baby sparrow a long time ago...I had to leave town so I had a friend take care of him except that I never saw my baby sparrow again - my friend lost him. So I understand your attachment to this little duck. Please keep the videos coming especially if a cute baby duck finds its way to you back porch.
