I really like your video and especially the music. I have a baby blue and gold named Charlie and it warms my heart to see how much you love and care for Your bird! I have one concern I would like to share. In your video it seems that you are giving your bird milk and cheese. My baby is new to me and in the vast reading I have been doing I read that birds are lactose intolerant. The book said that cheese clogs their preening gland. You may wish to consider this. Anyway your baby is beautiful!
So sorry about your loss. Rainbow was beautiful. My Husband got our son parakeets. Then I got Quakers, but I've always wanted a macraw. After seeing your beautiful video, I know what I'm asking for for my aniversario, birthday, and christmas. I hope peace love and his memorio stays with you two all your days on earth.
i had a muscovy duck once. she meant everything to me. every morning i would rush down to her cage and give it a new look every day. this would take me two hours. i painted her nails and sometimes snuck her into the house under my tshirt. then hug her and hug her.
until one morning i went down and saw her lying lifeless across the ground. it could be one of the sadest moments of my life and just writting this makes me cry.
Montaz & Naomi, ur love with Rainbow made me cry. God bless u guys, i had an African Grey, my baby Quees. he flew away a few days back and since that time it feels like i lost a part of my body. he was like my baby. May Allah bring him back to me.
O MY GOSH!!!! ive seen a bunch of macaws and have never seen a cute one like this!!!!!!! he's like a baby when he bites your finger, its like a baby teathing!!!!!!!
i want a macaw soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo bad instead i have a green cheek conure....;(
I might be young, but i have a never-dying love for birds... It can only be filled by a macaw!!!! Mine might be a Meo when I get it.. Hopefully by the end of the summer I'll have enough!!! WISH ME LUCK!!!!
Love your video. We are owned by a blue and gold and a cockatoo. We just love them so much. We brought our Angel home when she was 3 months old. She is now 5yrs old. Our Blue and Gold is 3 years old and we have had her for 9 months. We are her third home. We just love her and she has come a long way. She has brought such joy into our lives. Angel agrees!
Parrots have been in my wifes family & mine as well for many years we currently have a 6 year old female scarlet & a 2 year old male catalina, my parents still have 3 & my wifes mother has several including a baby we gave her just recently. I could not imagine not having parrots. Yes they do require a lot of attention but the rewards are endless. Ours are very much a part our family.
Hi ! Lovely, lovely video. I'm looking to import a B & G. Viewing videos like yours is VERY satisfying and educational. GREAT that you guys are Christians..... Love it too that Rainbow's favorites included 'Amazing God'. Indeed, He is ! He restores that which was lost, He increases wisdom. He keeps His promises. He gives strength to the weary..... Thank you both and may God Bless always.
Hi, thx for your comments. He's lovely, but hard work (he needs a lot of attention). They get easier as they get older I'm told. We love him thou - he's the most affectionate pet we've had. If you're interested I can give you the details of where we had him from (South Wales). Yes, God is amazing - we only need to look at Rainbow to see that! Thx for your spiritual encouragements. The Lord bless you.
THANKS for your warm reply today. YES, please, i'd welcome the opportunity to learn the breeder's whereabouts. Kindly reply to: hymelk@candw.ag
"The most affectionate pet we've had".. That is what I see in your video too. I have been working towards a B&G for over a month here...and it is very difficult EXPORTING a parrot from the USA. Importing to Antigua is not so hard. SO MANY documents for the export process because the B&G is on a CITES protected species list ! RSVP, PLSE. PTL !!!
Hi, Ours doesn't like going back into his cage either! Macaws are very strong willed creatures. We've persevered with ours by being very disciplined - that is we don't let him get away with not going into his cage. He eventually realises he has to submit. In addition, we give ours a treat if he goes in - it softens the blow a little. Also, we have set times for him to be in his cage - from lunch time until tea time - he's now used to that although he still resists a little.
Hi, Macaw's change with age. A young baby (1-3 months) will just play bite. After that they can develop bad biting habits - it all depends on how they are trained from that age - whether the owners handle them a lot and teach them that aggressive biting is not allowed. They are very loving creatures towards their owners (particularly their favourite), but not so comfortable with strangers - biting can be a problem. But as I say, it's how you train them - you have to work hard.
Thx for ur comments. We do love Rainbow. He's hard work though as he wants attention all the time. He keeps us entertained and is very loving. We share our meals with him, which he loves. He's 14 months old - we've had him since he was 4 months. We've bin told they get difficult between 4-8 years. Is that true? Have you found urs has gone through these tough years?
@John3versesixteen Yes he does have his moments, especially during molting season. He can get pretty testy and a bit more nippy, but we just either give him some space for a bit or a little extra TLC, depending on his mood. We do enjoy having meals with him, too. Harley pretty much eats what we eat, and he has to have a little something off of our plates otherwise he starts fussing! Lol
Hi again. Have you heard it been said that giving macaws human food is bad for their behaviour? As I said previously, we share our food with him - we can't imagine not doing so as he's a part of the family.
@John3versesixteen I have not heard of that. We give our macaw some of the same foods that we eat and he is pretty well-behaved, but occasionally has his moments (mostly when he wants some more attention). I have heard that it is good for them as it helps them to feel as if they are part of the "flock". I enjoy watching him eat some of the different foods that we eat, he makes some of the cutest faces! Lol
Oh ok, thx. We find that too - he loves to be a part of our 'flock' and gets very excited about eating with us. The line I take is that even if sharing our food means he won't live as long as on his normal fruit diet, it's a about quality - I'd rather he has a happy life for 50 years than a miserable one for 75! We're trying to fill his life with love.
Hi - Can I ask, do you guys work? These creatures are fascinating but they surely take an awful lot of care. I would love a graceful bird like this- but I would have no time to care for him/her. How long are you with him in 24 hours?
He was born in Wales, so we had to travel a great way to collect him. He was really worth it though. Originally, Macaws come from South America..., but Rainbow was born here. x
I love this video! I used to watch it all the time when my baby was still getting handfed. Now hes home and we watch it together. I have videos of him feel free to watch them. By the way I love the music and so does Maximo(my blue and gold macaw)
Aaaahh- thanks. We're really plsed you like the video. We love to share Rainbow's life with others, because he brings us so much joy. Keep looking out for new videos- we are in the process of producing another one at the mo. All the best with Maximo! I'm sure he'll bring you much happiness like Rainbow has to us. :-) x
@John3versesixteen Thanks! He sure does bring me happiness! Hes my little boy and he knows what days I am sad or mad and he know exactly what to do to make me happy. Hes my big feather ball of joy. I cant wait for more videos of Rainbow!
Caws are great when they are young they will let you do almost anything with them but beware of putting your fingers in his mouth because when they get older they think it is the norm to nuzzle your fingers trouble is when they do get older the nuzzling tends to get quite painfull and they don't think it's wrong...so then you have to retrain them not to do it...and it's really hard to do...i'm speaking from experience...I have a Greenwing who can shell macadamia nuts in seconds...
Thx for that. We're already noticing his bites are getting harder! We're letting him bite still, but keep monitoring it - if he bites hard we say 'no!' He seems to get the point and bites softer. We'll keep an eye on it. We're being strict with him - not wanting him to become spoilt! Any further advice would be appreciated.
Hi, yeah, he's lovely. A bit too friendly at times as he just wants to be with us all the time! He's at home with us now. Just about to have tea - curry - his favorite!
Hi, thx. Ours loves curry - goes wild for it. We'll try to keep an eye on salt intake. Rainbow flies outside on a 100m harness - we've got him flying on video - have a look at our 3 other videos. There's one with him talking too. Look forward to ur videos.
Hi. Yeah he's lovely. When we first picked him up he was a little nervous for about a hour. After that he was a fine with us, and by the next day he became as soppy as the video shows. In fact, he's getting more and more affectionate! We love him like that though - that's why we went for a Macaw. He's sitting on my shoulder grinding away with his beak at this moment. He had been trying to type on the keyboard earlier! so he can be a nuisance. 'Hello' is his favourite word at the mo.
