If you listen to the live in paris cd of them they do this song. And its a fifteen min version of it and the improv is very similar and many of the lyrics are the same. And i have to say i have never been more happy with a 10 min song. haha adam is amazing saw him last summer and like always put on a great show

I know what you're saying...but they don't do Doris Day on the Paris CD..this is the first time I ever heard them do this mix in concert...Doris Day is pre-Crows...Adam and Dave...maybe Charlie?...before Ben..

They are Ad's. Sordid Humour was a band he was in pre-Counting Crows.

he always improvise his songs. it's not unusal for singers to do this, especially on their own songs.

Because he can sing it how he wants to ... he wrote it, after all. If he sung it hundreds of times as it appears on the album, that would be boring for him and us. If you want it "likes its supposed to be sung" listen to the album version.
