not simple enough to be effective in real life and why go to the ground when you could do a standing technique if he has one more person helping him your dead.
@maxgunn555 not simple enough to be effective in real life if you don't understand the principle involved and you don't train and practice. If you want easy, you won't develop skill, which means you're lazy.
@tlapower theres a difference between simplicity and easiness. something can be both simple and difficult to get good at i think. i mean like natural reliable, high priority movemens.
Bravo Tuan Guru..This silat is very good martial art realistic and effective techniq for street self defences, with out waste lots of energy, strait to the point.
bob - I tried snatching his Passport at the last seminar. He is a sneaky son of a gun, he had it well hidden.
As a practitioner of Martial Arts (admittedly the japanese ones...) for several years, I have met many talented and experienced people. Maul is one of the most talented, and amiable people I have worked with. If you are not smiling during his seminar, you are doing something wrong.
(Oh yeah, his techniques aren't too shabby either!)
Bobbe, bobbe, one must master the art of Satria kuda to be a true tiger, this is what gives the art its dynamism, you build the musculature and agility thru this, other styles of Silat the persilat are often physically not in good shape though their technique is good, come to Harimau and we will shed a few of those kilos-lol
There is a beauty to martial arts. Many different styles, many different systems. I like this art because it looks like it teaches you to fight standing, but also teaches you how to take it to the ground if you have to. Maul Mornie makes it look so easy that its scary. I like the variation of the technique he gives at the end of the clip. I will stay tuned!!!! :- )
I like Guru Maul's technique, its clean and precise. He makes Harimau accessible to mere mortals without having to be an acrobat or a yoga master as well. This is the essence of an expert teacher.
You people in Europe getting all these seminars are lucky as hell. If Maul were over here, we'd revoke his passport and keep him for ourselves.
That was a pretty cool takedown I'm going to test that one out tonight, and see how well it transitions with an MMA fighter. I'll let you know on facebook.
Please share with us when you've tried it against a non-cooperant opponent..like a MMA Fighter..tell us how it went..the entry timing, the take down and follow up..just curious that's all..thank you...good movement in the video..
I tested this out in with a grappler on Friday night, and once you get the timing down you can deliver that take down rather nicely. However, he did fall in different directions each time, so there were some thing you have to adapt to and improvise on. However, it did work pretty well since it takes the center away quickly and most of time unaware. Try it out and look for the opportunity use both legs and see what happens. Great stuff
i am the first opponent attacking Guru Maul in this video. i have almost 30 years of experience in judo, wrestling and bjj. i still fight in competitions. i would never do this technique with full power in a competition. i would have to live for the rest of my life with the idea that i crippled somebody in a sportive match.Harimau shown here is a technique destined to destroy an ENEMY while fighting for your life, not an OPPONENT in a sportive match. MMA is also sports. think about it.

@PendekarBobbe: I love that comment about “we'd revoke his passport and keep him for ourselves. Because that's how we do it in America. “Hilarious!
I also like the material that you teach and post on youtube. Keep up the good work!

Thank you for pointing that out.
People tend to forget this about fighting for your life, not sport.
