if the autopilot is landing the plane it says retard it stands for retard flair mode it means that the autothrottle is gonna reduce to idle and the planes nose is gonna lift up for landing

@kevmarin I'm working on getting my private pilots license right now. Eventually I want to peruse a carrier as an Airline Pilot. Now your 28 years old, I've seen people start when they were in their 40's so you can do it. Depending on where you want to take aviation is up to you, but some routes require allot more time....... If you really want to become a pilot bad enough Just go for it man, because you only have one life to live! Best of luck

i've heard it can take ten or twenty years to land a job as a pilot for an airline and applying. i think its clear this job is deifintely not a direct route career path. you gotta take the right routes for possible chance you might get hired. thousands have gained comercial licenses but never landed an airline job due to the sheer competition. sadly their is just not enough positions for the enourmous population. it seems american military pilots have the best route

How come airline pilots wear small headsets that don't offer any hearing protection? I would think after flying for days at a time they would experience hearing loss, no? I know it is not as loud as a C172, but it is still pretty loud in the cockpit, right?

If you mean the Captain's & First Officers Primary Flight Display and Nav Display - they are CRT's so their `sweep frequency' is beating with the camera's frquency. It's just an effect from the camera. To the eye the displays are steady and not flashing.

@jojojo9991 Those are the Pitch Trim Wheels which provide mechanical control of the (Trimmable) Horizontal Stabilizer. On the ground they allow the crew to set the THS for Takeoff to the angle required - dependent on aircraft center of gravity. In flight with full `fly by wire' computers they move automatically as the flight control computers keep the aircraft in trim in pitch. On touchdown at landing the THS is moved automatically to a preset value. Forget what is is on the A320 - 0?
