I'm a huge SRL fan. A huge Hawk fan too. Too bad the promoters could never make the fight happen. I don't believe men like SRL or any guys that fight at that level duck anyone it's all about the money . Why would SRL get in the ring with Duran or Hagler, Hearns. Money is why. Fear doesn't enter into it. It's not about whos's the baddest it's about getting paid. Now we have Maywether and Pac. They want the biggest pay day ever. Seriously they've fought their whole life. NO FEAR
@Chex2331 LOL! another Pactard who thinks Manny could take anyone out. He COULDN'T knockout Margarito, he COULDN'T knockout Mosley, how would he knock out a steel chinned Pryor? Pryor took Arguello's best shots and Arguello hits like a Mac truck compared to Pacquiao.

@Chex2331 Pryor certainly does not get hit too much! He had amazing shoulder rolling blocking skills and rapid head movement, he could circle his man, move in and out with rapid speed.
Pacquiao hits as hard as Pryor? Fuck no. Pryor has almost 90% KO Record, Manny couldn't knock out Margarito - as I've already said.
Oh and by the way, Pryor whupped Hearns in the amateurs (it's on the web) and SRL moved up 2 weight classes so he didn't have to fight him. Duran's camp also refused to fight Pryor.
Why do you think that, Pryor has a much bigger chance of KOing pacman, not only is his defence much better but he has a much higher KO rate whilst pacuiaos is only aroud 66%.
Ray counters, but then he knew how to circle and use his legs. Arguello was taking punches because he is stiff. Arguello's goal is to knock you out, but he is right there in front of Pryor. So you cant judge how Pryor would od against SRL.
Its like judging how SRL did against Donny (SLOW) Lalonde in 1988 and assumng he does the same to Hearns 6 months later. Ray at 33 looked good against a slow fighter, but against Hearns he looked horrible.

youtube Aaron Pryor vs. Lennox Blackmoore
End of fight in the interview Pryor said Leonard offered him 500,000 and Pryor admitted he turned down. He said Leonard got 4 million, i think i deserve more than that.
So Pryor DUCKED Leonard. not SRL ducking Pryor. Ray offered the fight
Pryor admits in this video Ray offered me 500,000 and i turned it down cause Ray was getting 4 million.

@3232rams Gym Wars?..Sounds like a great book..Pryors before my time but EVERY older boxing fan tells me he was a monster...Im gonna look for that book
pryor did beat hearns in 1976 amateur fight the same as tillman beat tyson whats your point and how can you even comment on this when hearns was 6ft1 and a lightweight and emaciated pryor was not a known before he fought arguello so half a million dollars is a lot of money in 81 for an unknown champion and leonard was star of the show ! pryor stayed at lightwelter and never ventured up in weight its ok talking a good fight but you got to do something about it ! leonard would knock him out !!!
Lol..its not a negative against arguello or Aaron Pryor it was a classic fight. I just think that Arguello was old, Past his prime and moving up in weight to fight Pryor and still Pryor found it hard to beat him. Pryor even had a 'special liquid' to boost his energy during the fight.
If Pryor wanted Srl he should have moved up to welterweight
If Duran kicked SRL ass in 1st fight the score wouldnt be so close .
@CEO1451 leonard offered pryor half a million dollars to fight him 1981 and pryor turned it down because it was not enough even though it would have doubled his highest purse before ! you all come out the woodwork when it can never happen when reality leonard would have knocked him into tomorrow ! pryor stayed in his weight class and never wanted to move up and got dropped by cervantes kameda and 2 others and when he ventured to welter got knocked by booby joe young lol leonard would ko him !!
Pryor could barely knock out aging former featherweight alexi arguello so against a prime leonard he would be murdered.
Pryor is awesome i haven`t seen work rate like his until manny pacquiao came along but he is too easy to hit and does not have the power to trouble leonard let alone the skill.
The better fight would be Pryor vs Duran ....because their styles are so similiar.
@SirHappyThe1st a good summary there mate. Pryor would have been too small to tackle Leonard I think. Also, when Leonard wanted to punch, he could..................HARD! Too hrd for natural lightweight Pryor I beleive.
@SirHappyThe1st i hate to tell you this but arguello was a better fighter than leonard 22 title defenses 88-7 record what was leonard 36-3 come on man
@SirHappyThe1st i hate to tell you this but arguello was a better fighter than leonard 22 title defenses 88-7 record what was leonard 36-3 come on man but i do agree with you leonard might have been to big for pryor but i would have loved to see them fight.
@3232rams don't talk out your fuckin arse prtor would be left uncontious and a broken man and only fool thinks otherwise ! nobody ate leonards ass at welter and nobody could have ! pryor got dropped 5 times as lightwelter and never could have lasted with leonard in fact duran would have destroyed him also !!
@DodgeDweller420 No he was just running his mouth. He sat at junior welterweight his whole career and made no attempt to go up until all the good welterweights were gone
@DodgeDweller420 he didn't make any move up to welterweight. and sugar ray got called out by lots of people when you want to fight the number 1 you have to do more than just talk
Sugar Ray Leonard moved up in weight class to get away from Prior. The same way Cotto moved up in weight class to avoid Pacquiao........ again. That was good advice for Cotto, but there's too much talent in that division as well, so Cotto's days might be numbered.
Sugar Ray Leonard moved up in weight class to get away from Prior ( quote Solowizard )
Rubbish! SRL was 5.10 and was too big for lightweight or light welterweight thats why he moved up. Why would SRL fight the far more dangerous hearns and Duran and not pryor 5.6 pryor. Pryor wanted SRL hearns, duran, benitez because of the big payday....but he had not earned the right until he fought 'a somebody' called Alexis Arguello in 1982 when SRL had already been forced to retire.
@SirHappyThe1st ,LOL,LOL,LOL! I think you should stop whatever it is you've been smoking.
#1 It's not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog.
#2 Ray moving up in weight for bigger fish/more money was true, and another good reason to get away from Prior.
#3 SUGAR RAY LEONARD WAS NEVER FORCED TO RETIRE! He was advised by his doctor that he could lose his eye sight due to a detached retina if he continued to box, so Leonard decided to briefly retire.
Did you bang your head when you were young or are you just naturally stupid?
Pryor never moved to welterweight when he could have. He called out the big names because he wanted a 'big payday' but he was relatively unknown until he beat alexis arguello in 1982/83.
Ray started out as a welterweight just like thomas hearns. Duran didnt so why didnt he fight pryor? ( see above for reason)
SRL eye was not fully healed and he risked blindness one of the reasons he stopped.
Man, that knock down-roll-attack sequence at 2:05 is mind-blowing. Surprised his opponent didn't turn and run or start madly apologising... that determination, it's like something out of a legend, don't think I've seen something like that in real life before.
@DodgeDweller420 - I agree with you on Julian "The Hawk" Jackson. And to tell you the truth, I think Julian Jackson's knockouts are far more impressive than Mike Tyson's knockouts. Tyson knocked people out, but Jackson put people to sleep! LOL,LOL! The most remarkable thing about Jackson's knockouts is that everybody went down the same way. LOL!....Like a damn tree. Timberrrrrrr....BAM!
.
Shows you how great the only man to beat Jackson twice (Gerald McClellan) really was!
@Solowizard lmao i know julian hit like a fuckin truck.. and ur right, tyson would knock people down... julian would put them into the twilight zone. lol
@judaschongo based on what criteria is he overrated? You are entitled to your opinion, but how is he overrated? Noone would fight him and he knocked out everyone who did. He brought that pressure and NEVER let up. His conditioning was superb and he had a killer instinct that rivaled any fighter of any era. Im just sayin.
@kingjojo14 on the fact that the man didn't even debut in any of the original 8 weight divisions. Opting instead to stay his entire career in a jr/super division; simply making a name for himself by defeating an over the hill Cervantes & getting knocked down in the process by the old man. Then fighting an over the hill Featherweight(126) in Arguello in a back n forth affair.
Pryor knew exactly where he belonged, and that was at 140; away from the real Greats: Duran, Leonard, Hearns etc.
Muy injusto para Arguello, sobran evidencias que Pryor tomaba estimulantes, la prueba fué su retiro y los problemas de salud que tubo a causa de ello.
Alexis Arguello is one of my favorite boxers of all time. Aaron Pryor is an unbelievable fighter, It's sad to know, he was not given the opportunity until very late on in his career to fight the best of the best, cause hes fantastic.
@adamkotta888 well Duran never had to take white powder to beat any one. like he did to beat Arguello so stop talking crap. Second look at his defense how many times he got dropped, Duran's defense was one of the best in boxing history son, Duran was dropped only once in 76 fights, never in trouble son until Hearns. People thought the same with SRL and look what happend, SRL has to even cheat to win the second fight. If you didn't know this do your research
people talk all the time how leonard ducked pryor. according to that theory hagler, hearns, benitez and duran all ducked pryor. according to that theory all the boxers ducked pryor so i guess he fought phantoms all the time (lol)
Duran never duck pryor, stop just repeating what other people say, Duran had left that weight division years before Pryor came on the picture, You think he will duck Pryor and fight Hagler? A MiddleW and a beats, Duarn has to put on some weight to fight a much bigger stronger man without BOTTLE AND POWDER. Duran will always look for the Homerun. Please! Pryor was a light weight years after.
pryor would have killed mayweather pacman is a featherweight what the fuck is going on here todays fighters suck. you think mayweather could have fought in the 70 with 6 once gloves and 16 foot rings. his dad was average in 70 he would be to
why everyone keeps saying pryor cheated against arguello is bullshit they claimed that in the first fight so he came out in the second fight and gave arguello a even bigger ass whooping face it pryor was better hell sugar ray was scared to fight him he was a great fighter simple
Kong0000001 Who cares if he beat him again because their will always be a stain on Pryors boxing accomplishments for the"the one I mix"incident. Look at the history of Pryors trainer Panama Lewis cheating and you will see the reason for my suspicion and maybe Im wrong and maybe its true based on the history of Panama who is banned from boxing for life.
Yeah it was probably some sort of caffinated drink... I mean what else are you gonna give a guy in a bottle while the fight is going on? Probably something like Noxplode now a days. But he would have WHOOPED most guys back then anyways. I think Duran would have been the best fight for him. Ray would have gotten hurt... he knows that. He already beat Hearns... He was a complete animal.
@bknellinger I dont know what the most famous cheater in boxing history carlos aka panama lewis gave to pryor but he lost because of the bottle! you dont know panama? he could had put lidocane in pryor's hand! yes he lost he second fight fair but it took pryor 9 r more rounds to beat him!
What are you talking about Padding from the gloves??? Do you really think Arguello would have beatin this guy ever?? Come on dude... He was just too strong in every way. He had an insane chin too... Arguello could not hurt him and couldnt go full speed for as long. Not even close
Only Panama Lewis knows what he put in the bottle. Maybe he never cheated or maybe he did,who knows but now I think Pryor wasted his prime boxing years because he never stepped up and fought Hearns,Hagler,Leonard.Duran started as a 118lb featherweight and he stepped up and fought all those legends of the ring, why didn't Pryor fight all of them? Those would have been some great fights.
Oh dude you have to be kidding me! Pryor tried MULTIPLE times to fight Leonard, and Hearns! He was no where near as marketable as the other top fighters so none of the promoters would let that happen... haha nobody was gonna give him a shot at those guys... they didnt want the fight, Pryor would have LOVED to fight those guys... It was all politics my friend.
Aron Pryor a fraud! Aron"Asthma pill drink"Pryor! May his soul rest in peace but he was a cheater in boxing. HBO did a special on "Assault in the ring" and truth was unvailed.
Come on man. Even if there was something in the bottle, what happened the second time they fought? Pryor beat Arguello even worse. Get over it. Pryor was a great champion.
I know it was not about Aron pryor it was about Luis Resto and Pryors former trainer Panama Lewis. Luis Resto said that Panama would give him an astma pill mixed with water during a fight and it would open up your lungs and give you a burst of energy. Their is no evidence that Aron cheated but you have to admit it looks suspicious, right?
Yeah there was def something in that bottle. I dont think it played a factor at all in the outcome. Pryor had his number. He beat him even worse the second time and would beat him ten times in a row. Arguello even said there was just no way for him to win. Panama is a peice of garbage... Blame him for being corrupt, not Pryor... All that guy wanted to do was fight. And dont mention stripping padding either. Pryor never did that and should not be grouped in to that discussion.
My homie that is a retired boxer said that the bottle had pcp. He has a lot of dope old stories but whethat that one is true or not I was born in 79 and who am I to judge.
watch what luis resto said and you would know why he beat arhuello he was losing that fight up till the mix panama luis made came in effect in the last minute! he was a good boxer but that fight was a cheat!
Dude I know about that already. Arguello didn't have a chance anyway you put it. The Hawk is the best 140 lober in the world hands down. He would beat the shit out of Cotto and Manny in the same week.
my nigga arguello was beatin him son any one that knows he only beat arguello cuz the second wind he got from the apanefrin in the water it opens your lungs i bet he wouldnt have won half those fights if he went straight up with just water!
dude... Arguello even said so himself after the second fight... He cant beat the guy. I have watched both fights many times and Pryor just had his number. It was a style thing... had nothing to do with the bottle. they could fight anytime anyplace anywhere and Pryor would just take it to him. Arguello could not hurt him. Props to him for actually taking the fight though... Nobody else back then would even consider fighting Pryor!
@bknellinger correction pryor did not have arguello's number! arguello forced to go to 14 rounds in the first fight. pryor was gasping for air until panama lewis known and banned for cheating gave pryor the famous black bottle. God knows if he put plaster on pryor or took horse's hair from the glove like he did to luis resto! the second fight pryor won fairly!
@nicablackmamba Arguello just couldnt beat the guy... come on i dont know how anybody can even debate this... I understand being a fan of the guy. I am too, but, He aint EVER beating Pryor. bottle nothin. that just gave an excuse. second fight he beat his ass even worse than the first.
Just checked out the highlight . Maan does that take me back . I have to agree with ya as well. Thanks brother ! Oh yeah, who do you have on the Pacquiao Cotto fight . I gotta flip a coin on that one . LOL Peace out ! -1ne
Hmmmm... Thats a hard one considering the way Marquez couldn't even hurt floyd. If Manny beats Cotto I will put him up there with the elite, Duran, Hearns, ect... I think Manny should win on points. Cotto has a good chin I think Manny by UD not by KO
He would have ate up leonard. As to beating chavez hmm i dont know its a good one because chavez never got ko'd he only got knocked down 2 times in 100+ fights, and def could take watever pryor dished out. Against duran i doubt he would win, duran a bigger opponent and had also a very rugged style and hit alot harder than pryor, and had a better repertoir imo. still a good fight.
@showtime3700 - WRONG! That Hawk Vs Pacquiao would be a more fireworks filled fight. Aaron wouldn't be able to land many punches on Mayweather because Floyd is too technical of a boxer. Floyd is probably the only boxer to ever really master the fundamentals of the sport. He would easily beat Prior. His uncle Roger and Floyd Senior would get their asses kicked by Prior.
.
Pacquiao and Prior have very similar styles, so they would be more of a match than either one of them against Mayweather jr.
this guy was exciting to watch.he shoulda been part of a fab 5 with leonard, hearns, hagler and duran.I'd love to see how duran woulda reacted to this guy's craziness, duran being a lil' nut himself.I really hate the way srl dissed him on that press conference they show here.acting like a lil' primadonna bitch.i'm convince he knew pryor woulda destroyed him.
Fuckin Right, Suga Ray Try To Make Aaron Look Dumb At That Press Conference, Actually Aaron Walked Up There Unanounced It Was Rays Retirement Party. Ray Knew Pryor Woulda Beat Him Badly In The Ring, So He Ducked Him
a professional hearns would have beat pryor hagler wud have destroyed him(due to size difference) leonard he could have beat there is always a style a fighter cant handle no matter how good they r i think pryors style was leonards weakness pity we never got to find out. duran v pryor wud have been epic
AP was the best at his time and Sugar Ray Leonard never gave him his shot because he knew AP was a threat!! SRL always picked his fighters!! You can say whatever you want about the black bottle incident for the first fight. AP put that spectacle to rest in the second fight. And AP always took hard shots from almost every fighter he fought. It was just hard to knock him out!! Much respect for Aaron Pryor! True legend of the sport.
How do you guys rate AP against SRL, Hagler, Hearns and Duran? He's never been in the ring with those legends (ok almost never) so how do you guys feel he would have shaped up?
He'd knock out Sugar because Sugar wouldn't be able to hurt AP and AP would eventually catch him in the late rounds. Hagler hit mighty hard and he'd hurt AP a few times in the fight, but AP would will himself to a victory. He'd be too quick for Duran...Duran wouldn't have to say, "No mas" because AP would put him out of his misery. Damn, I miss the time when boxing had REAL boxers...the early to mid eighties was the hayday for the lighter weight classes!
I dont know if he could beat Hagler...depends on weight class and Hagler never fought anything but middle weight and AP would be too small for that-no middle weight could, handle Hagler he was a natural middle weight-but I LOVE AP no doubt about that!!!I agree I think SRL ducked him and could not handle AP in the later rounds-too much non stop punching from AP !!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Definitely a tough, dnagerous fight for Aaron, but I've never seen the dude get beat down...tough as nails, he'd will himself to a close victory against Hag.
@frisbyrb5 he wouldn't of beaten Leonard either! he struggled against an over the hill Featherweight in Arguello; and you expect him to beat a natural talented Welterweight in his prime?
Pryor knew exactly whom to fight & exactly who to stay away from: Duran, Leonard & Hearns.
@judaschongo arguello is a totally diffrent ball game to fight srl, he had a world class jab and was a technical master boxer, proyer had to break him down,he was the much shorter man, against srl it would of been diffirent it would of been a test of skills, an inside fight two similar styles, pryor called srl out loads of times but srl just fobbed him off because of his big ego and doubt, pryer beat hearns as an ameatar but as a pro its hard to say the size diffrence got bigger, duran wins points
AP gave hima rematch I DON THINK THERE WAS SOMIN IN THE BLACK BOTTLE which did a few tricks. but in their second fight AP himuliated alexes even more this time alexes just gave up.
so then then id like to know wat was in the black botle.
Aaron Pryor was on drugs. no body could take those shots in real life, and Pryor knows it. now days they would find the drug in his body. back in those day was easy to take drugs and nobody wouldn't find out. anyways Pryor never become anybody after this, that my proof.
One of the baddest mother fuckers that ever entered the ring. It sucks that so many people have no idea who he is. REAL boxing fans know that man was fucking awesome.
The Hawk would have tore Floyd Gayweather to pieces. This man could back his shit up. Not like the little pretty pansy who runs around the ring like a bitch.
One more thing before I leave this thread. Fighting in amateurs and professional fighting is a whole different animal and again just for record I saw all those fights live and to see Pryor self destruct was an awful thing to watch. That aside there is no denying Aaron was great to say the least.
Of course Ray would say no. He always did. He said he would never fight Hagler and he did. Ray was a smart guy..the more he said no the more he people wanted it. Typical Leonard. Please note I have never once said Ray would win but to just dismiss Sugar Ray Leonard in his prime against anybody is just plain silly.
You can doubt all you want but I witnessed Aron pryor call him out in front of the world and Ray looked him the eye and say no way. In fact it's on tape. Ray himself will tell you he didn't want any of that.
well..I know Rays history because I saw all those fights live.Yes I am that old! The rumors then were the same ones you hear today. It was a big controversy. I remember when he fought Hearns the 1st time. The guy seated behind me was saying pretty much the same things about Ray and we almost got into a fight about it. When he beat Tommy Hearns I knew he was for real. A very smart boxer.
Very selective? I know a great boxer when I see one. Anyone who knows boxing can't deny Ray's talents. Gold medal winner and a real professional champion! Perhaps coming to the end of his career they might of been selective to make some easy money but he was the real thing and in his prime coupled with Dundee was second to none.
Great fighter. One of my personal favorites. Awful music.

Pryor should have taken the 500,000. SRL is the one of truly wanted the fight.
A lot of ppl keep posting that video of that press conference when Pryor came up to Ray and said i beat Tommy...blah blah blah

@CEO1451 leonard offered pryor half a million dollars to fight him 1981 and pryor turned it down because it was not enough even though it would have doubled his highest purse before ! you all come out the woodwork when it can never happen when reality leonard would have knocked him into tomorrow ! pryor stayed in his weight class and never wanted to move up and got dropped by cervantes kameda and 2 others and when he ventured to welter got knocked by booby joe young lol leonard would ko him !!

pryor would have ate leonard ass up pryor was a great fighter who never stopped fighting ray at his best could have not beat pryor
3232rams 1 year ago
@3232rams
SirHappyThe1st 1 year ago
@SirHappyThe1st a good summary there mate. Pryor would have been too small to tackle Leonard I think. Also, when Leonard wanted to punch, he could..................HARD! Too hrd for natural lightweight Pryor I beleive.

@Trexty4 pryor was trying to get a fight with SRL
DodgeDweller420 1 year ago
@DodgeDweller420 No he was just running his mouth. He sat at junior welterweight his whole career and made no attempt to go up until all the good welterweights were gone

@zew1070288 lmao yeah he was running his mouth saying if ur the best welterweight then lets fight
DodgeDweller420 1 year ago
@DodgeDweller420 he didn't make any move up to welterweight. and sugar ray got called out by lots of people when you want to fight the number 1 you have to do more than just talk
zew1070288 1 year ago
@zew1070288 lol i didnt say that.. all i said was he called out sugar
DodgeDweller420 1 year ago
@DodgeDweller420 -
TRUTH BE TOLD;
Sugar Ray Leonard moved up in weight class to get away from Prior. The same way Cotto moved up in weight class to avoid Pacquiao........ again. That was good advice for Cotto, but there's too much talent in that division as well, so Cotto's days might be numbered.
Solowizard 1 year ago
Sugar Ray Leonard moved up in weight class to get away from Prior ( quote Solowizard )
Rubbish! SRL was 5.10 and was too big for lightweight or light welterweight thats why he moved up. Why would SRL fight the far more dangerous hearns and Duran and not pryor 5.6 pryor. Pryor wanted SRL hearns, duran, benitez because of the big payday....but he had not earned the right until he fought 'a somebody' called Alexis Arguello in 1982 when SRL had already been forced to retire.
SirHappyThe1st 1 year ago
@SirHappyThe1st ,LOL,LOL,LOL! I think you should stop whatever it is you've been smoking.
#1 It's not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog.
#2 Ray moving up in weight for bigger fish/more money was true, and another good reason to get away from Prior.
#3 SUGAR RAY LEONARD WAS NEVER FORCED TO RETIRE! He was advised by his doctor that he could lose his eye sight due to a detached retina if he continued to box, so Leonard decided to briefly retire.
Solowizard 1 year ago
@Solowizard
SirHappyThe1st 1 year ago

Timberrrrrrr....BAM!

judaschongo 1 year ago
@judaschongo based on what criteria is he overrated? You are entitled to your opinion, but how is he overrated? Noone would fight him and he knocked out everyone who did. He brought that pressure and NEVER let up. His conditioning was superb and he had a killer instinct that rivaled any fighter of any era. Im just sayin.
kingjojo14 1 year ago
@kingjojo14 on the fact that the man didn't even debut in any of the original 8 weight divisions. Opting instead to stay his entire career in a jr/super division; simply making a name for himself by defeating an over the hill Cervantes & getting knocked down in the process by the old man. Then fighting an over the hill Featherweight(126) in Arguello in a back n forth affair.
Pryor knew exactly where he belonged, and that was at 140; away from the real Greats: Duran, Leonard, Hearns etc.
judaschongo 1 year ago
@judaschongo - Naaaaaaaaa! Prior is among the most underrated, not overrated in my opinion. He never got his just due until after he retired.
Solowizard 1 year ago
Muy injusto para Arguello, sobran evidencias que Pryor tomaba estimulantes, la prueba fué su retiro y los problemas de salud que tubo a causa de ello.

Alexis Arguello is one of my favorite boxers of all time. Aaron Pryor is an unbelievable fighter, It's sad to know, he was not given the opportunity until very late on in his career to fight the best of the best, cause hes fantastic.
JerryLFC31 1 year ago
As tough as Duran was at junior welter, Aaron would have pushed his shit in for him imo.
adamkotta888 1 year ago
@adamkotta888 well Duran never had to take white powder to beat any one. like he did to beat Arguello so stop talking crap. Second look at his defense how many times he got dropped, Duran's defense was one of the best in boxing history son, Duran was dropped only once in 76 fights, never in trouble son until Hearns. People thought the same with SRL and look what happend, SRL has to even cheat to win the second fight. If you didn't know this do your research

jeryd2003 1 year ago
Duran never duck pryor, stop just repeating what other people say, Duran had left that weight division years before Pryor came on the picture, You think he will duck Pryor and fight Hagler? A MiddleW and a beats, Duarn has to put on some weight to fight a much bigger stronger man without BOTTLE AND POWDER. Duran will always look for the Homerun. Please! why everyone keeps saying pryor cheated against arguello is bullshit they claimed that in the first fight so he came out in the second fight and gave arguello a even bigger ass whooping face it pryor was better hell sugar ray was scared to fight him he was a great fighter simple
KONG00000001 2 years ago
Kong0000001 Who cares if he beat him again because their will always be a stain on Pryors boxing accomplishments for the"the one I mix"incident. Look at the history of Pryors trainer Panama Lewis cheating and you will see the reason for my suspicion and maybe Im wrong and maybe its true based on the history of Panama who is banned from boxing for life.
josemezatorrez 2 years ago
Yeah it was probably some sort of caffinated drink... I mean what else are you gonna give a guy in a bottle while the fight is going on? Probably something like Noxplode now a days. But he would have WHOOPED most guys back then anyways. I think Duran would have been the best fight for him. Ray would have gotten hurt... he knows that. He already beat Hearns... He was a complete animal.
bknellinger 1 year ago
@bknellinger I dont know what the most famous cheater in boxing history carlos aka panama lewis gave to pryor but he lost because of the bottle! you dont know panama? he could had put lidocane in pryor's hand! yes he lost he second fight fair but it took pryor 9 r more rounds to beat him!

@nicablackmamba naw u got your facts wrong he beat him quicker the 2nd fight....

what time is it??????? time for the special bottle the one I mix and time for me to take padding from the gloves so I can beat arguello!
nicablackmamba 2 years ago
What are you talking about Padding from the gloves??? Do you really think Arguello would have beatin this guy ever?? Come on dude... He was just too strong in every way. He had an insane chin too... Arguello could not hurt him and couldnt go full speed for as long. Not even close
bknellinger 1 year ago
Only Panama Lewis knows what he put in the bottle. Maybe he never cheated or maybe he did,who knows but now I think Pryor wasted his prime boxing years because he never stepped up and fought Hearns,Hagler,Leonard.Duran started as a 118lb featherweight and he stepped up and fought all those legends of the ring, why didn't Pryor fight all of them? Those would have been some great fights.
josemezatorrez 1 year ago
Oh dude you have to be kidding me! Pryor tried MULTIPLE times to fight Leonard, and Hearns! He was no where near as marketable as the other top fighters so none of the promoters would let that happen... haha nobody was gonna give him a shot at those guys... they didnt want the fight, Pryor would have LOVED to fight those guys... It was all politics my friend.

Dude................ lol Assault in the Ring was NOT about Aron Pryor......... haha Come on... Your not even talking about the right guy!!!
bknellinger 1 year ago
I know it was not about Aron pryor it was about Luis Resto and Pryors former trainer Panama Lewis. Luis Resto said that Panama would give him an astma pill mixed with water during a fight and it would open up your lungs and give you a burst of energy. Their is no evidence that Aron cheated but you have to admit it looks suspicious, right?
josemezatorrez 1 year ago
Meant to type ASTHMA.
josemezatorrez 1 year ago
Yeah there was def something in that bottle. I dont think it played a factor at all in the outcome. Pryor had his number. He beat him even worse the second time and would beat him ten times in a row. Arguello even said there was just no way for him to win. Panama is a peice of garbage... Blame him for being corrupt, not Pryor... All that guy wanted to do was fight. And dont mention stripping padding either. Pryor never did that and should not be grouped in to that discussion.

Rasclot222 2 years ago
Nobody else back then would even consider fighting Pryor!
bknellinger 1 year ago
@bknellinger correction pryor did not have arguello's number! arguello forced to go to 14 rounds in the first fight. pryor was gasping for air until panama lewis known and banned for cheating gave pryor the famous black bottle. saladooq 1 year ago

AP was the best at his time and Sugar Ray Leonard never gave him his shot because he knew AP was a threat!! SRL always picked his fighters!! How do you guys rate AP against SRL, Hagler, Hearns and Duran? He's never been in the ring with those legends (ok almost never) so how do you guys feel he would have shaped up?
radabminj 3 years ago
He'd knock out Sugar because Sugar wouldn't be able to hurt AP and AP would eventually catch him in the late rounds. Hagler hit mighty hard and he'd hurt AP a few times in the fight, but AP would will himself to a victory. He'd be too quick for Duran...Duran wouldn't have to say, "No mas" because AP would put him out of his misery. Damn, I miss the time when boxing had REAL boxers...the early to mid eighties was the hayday for the lighter weight classes!
vizhunbasics 3 years ago
I dont know if he could beat Hagler...depends on weight class and Hagler never fought anything but middle weight and AP would be too small for that-no middle weight could, handle Hagler he was a natural middle weight-but I LOVE AP no doubt about that!!!I agree I think SRL ducked him and could not handle AP in the later rounds-too much non stop punching from AP !!

One more thing before I leave this thread. Fighting in amateurs and professional fighting is a whole different animal and again just for record I saw all those fights live and to see Pryor self destruct was an awful thing to watch. That aside there is no denying Aaron was great to say the least.
ssaltspring 3 years ago
Of course Ray would say no. He always did. He said he would never fight Hagler and he did. Ray was a smart guy..the more he said no the more he people wanted it. Typical Leonard. Please note I have never once said Ray would win but to just dismiss Sugar Ray Leonard in his prime against anybody is just plain silly.
ssaltspring 3 years ago
You can doubt all you want but I witnessed Aron pryor call him out in front of the world and Ray looked him the eye and say no way. In fact it's on tape. Ray himself will tell you he didn't want any of that.

ssaltspring 3 years ago
well..I know Rays history because I saw all those fights live.Yes I am that old! The rumors then were the same ones you hear today. It was a big controversy. I remember when he fought Hearns the 1st time. The guy seated behind me was saying pretty much the same things about Ray and we almost got into a fight about it. When he beat Tommy Hearns I knew he was for real. A very smart boxer.
ssaltspring 3 years ago
Very selective? I know a great boxer when I see one. Anyone who knows boxing can't deny Ray's talents. Gold medal winner and a real professional champion! Perhaps coming to the end of his career they might of been selective to make some easy money but he was the real thing and in his prime coupled with Dundee was second to none.
