Take that mimed to avoid the feedback they would have gotten from the speakers. They were on a special stage as you can see in the video and didn't have the time to set up everything to avoid feedback.

I was watching the Brits live on Sky and during the song the sound distorted, sounded like an old record slowing down just for a second. I thought this was nothing and perhaps a problem on my end, but after speaking with other sky users it seems like I wasn't the only one.

aaronon is right, this is a pre-recording made to sound more live than the CD recording. Anyone who has ever toured/done TV/radio etc will know that it is not possible to sing live every time and often for reasons beyond the artist's control. TT aren't my favourite act but the truth is many people who really can sing also mime on such shows and as TT can actually sing live, the fact they are mimng here is a rather moot point.

OK that comment wasn't meant to sound as harsh as it did. I love take that as much as the next person- i think they are brilliant and i had no intention to 'diss' them. I was making a point saying that they are brilliant and have so much talent and cant see why they felt the need to mime. I will not shut up, i do have something important to say and that was it. everyone's opinion is important and valid. Just because you dont agree doesnt make it unimportant! who cares if they mimed (or part of it was mimed, whatever) they're still quite clearly amazing and have proved they can sing live time and time again.
Personally it sounds to me like the beginning bit was not mimed but for some unknown reason it was then mimed from thenon.. god knows why.

Everyone knows that Take That are brilliant - theyve made the biggest comeback of a band ever they write their own tunes and they perform amazing LIVE + SING LIVE A VAST MAJORITY OF THE TIME. Everyone mimes every now + again 4 different reasons maybe Gary was ill or somethin - nobody knows but even legends mime from time to time. Just cos they're miming here doesnt mean they r gonna do it on the tour.

they can't have mimed all of it bcos they go low on "tonight" whereas on the album they go high, but i do think they mimed some of it, i think you can tell if you really listen closely to it. Still fab performance though.

Scott Mills made a comment this afternoon after they played this on Radio1...something like 'great singing on that by the way'. I thought it was an odd comment but didnt take much notice until I watched the Brits repeat this evening and realised they were miming...I'm a little disappointed cos its something they're renowned for NOT doing but hey, I've seen them live countless times and going again in the summer, so I dont care. They WILL sing live on tour, they always do so dont worry :-)

Chris Evans explained why some people mimed - it was to do with turnaround time. If you listen you'll notice the track is not the studio recording but has been recorded especially for this staging. The lip syncing would have been unavoidable for technical reasons. Anyone who has seen TT live knows they can sing most people off the stage.

When it is quoted in speech marks and Gary is cited as the source you can safely say it is him! Otherwise they would've said " a source said gary said" etc! To cite somebody incorrectly could lead to a lawsuit for defamation of character! So you should take my word for it!

Britney is more an international star mostly due to the hype rather than any real talent imo of course which we are all entitled to. Take That CAN sing live and their live performances are legendary.
And as Chris Evans said they mimed at the Brits due to turnaround time not because they were incapable.

Yes she does sing live, only on ballads though, she lip syncs when she is dancing (you know the thing that Gary can't do)! As for lack of talent, Britney is known for being one of the best female performers in the world; less can be said for this group of old men! I cringed throughout the whole thing! They and you can criticise her all you want, she'll always be bigger than them!

If you can't perform it don't write it.
Her fans don't want to see her dance, they want to hear her sing. Whenever a performer mimes, they're going to get called on it, regardless of the situation, why should she be exempt from ridicule just because she had to dance and sing.
Gary has written some classics and his performances are ALL live on their tours whether dancing or not. But hey! Each to their own.

I was watching the Brits live on Sky and during the song the sound distorted, sounded like an old record slowing down just for a second. I thought this was nothing and perhaps a problem on my end, but after speaking with other sky users it seems like I wasn't the only one.
I can't seem to find the distorted sound on any of these videos and I was wondering if anyone else heard it too???

Big deal if they did mime. People do it all the time. Even some of the legends mime sometimes so its no big deal really. I guess as the BRITS wasnt entertaining enough this year, the press and public had to pick on something to moan about. Whatever people say, Take That are amazing. aaronon is right, this is a pre-recording made to sound more live than the CD recording. Anyone who has ever toured/done TV/radio etc will know that it is not possible to sing live every time and often for reasons beyond the artist's control. TT aren't my favourite act but the truth is many people who really can sing also mime on such shows and as TT can actually sing live, the fact they are mimng here is a rather moot point.
