i love bonzo, he is my idol but this isn't supposed to decide which one is better because we are no one to judge but this guy can play, and being not commercial at all as it has been since vanilla fudge speaks really good of him. I was told one day that he and bonzo met in one of the first zeppelin tours in usa, and was carmine who introduced him to ludwig drums, very good suggestion from him
Carmine is a total legend. When B Murder's debut came out in 89' I finally (at the time) realized why he was such an icon. To my knowledge he's still not in the Modern Drummer Hall Of Fame, the readers of that mag need to be hit in the head. Carmine so deserves to be in (Aldridge as well). I love drummers (I am one) but collectively we don't treat our legends with the respect they deserve in comparison to how guitarists treat their own. It pains me to admit it but it's true.
@compworld1 I nearly forgot Carmine Appice played with Blue Murder. He has contributed to many great acts. When I was a kid I wasn't thrilled when Appice was playing and co-writing songs with Rod Stewart. But it showed his versatility. I can't knock it. A man has bills to pay.
Best drummer alive. Him and Alex Van Halen are my favorites. You know what dissapoints me though? YOU DONT SEE HIM IN THE TOP TEN???? He puts all the ohers to shame and blows them out of the water. Rock on Carmine!!!!!!!!
@trkrkvn He was a fill in for Tommy Aldrige and then was let go due to personal issues. Then he formed King Kobra which is a decent band too. So it wasn't a bad thing that he got released from Ozzy's band
@trkrkvn story is sharon had him fired for upstaging ozzy - true? beats me, but he's a great drummer, showman and has influenced (whether they know it or not) tons of others.

Carmine Appice has to be the most overrated drummer on the planet, bar none. If it were'nt for hand and foot triplets and quad's he would have no solo or for that matter no licks at all. Perhaps he should've concentrated more on licks than having some idiot grip that allows him to spin his stick (the amature way) all the time. He really has an inflated idea of his drumming skill. His brother can play circles around him. This is a video from the early eighties in his so called prime. Not impressed

The only drum solo I regret taking a piss break for was Led Zep's John Bonmah. When I saw Appice with Jeff Beck .. I didn't lose any sleep that I was in the bathroom for his solo ...
@donnarynn I was 15 when I went to my first concert, and it was this tour. Carmine blew me away! It sounded like a machine gun firing at one point in the solo.
I have a lot of respect for Carmine because he gives free clinics to underprivileged kids. He gives a lot back to the musical community. Rock on, Drummer!
@azimuth361 I agree I saw him at a free clinic here in my town Fort Walton Beach Florida about 22 years ago when I was 18 and was totally blown away at his talent and how nice he was. I kept thinking wow this guys played all over the world and he's taking the time to come to a small town of about 8,000 people to play drums for about 50 people! It's something I'll never forget! Thanks Carmine!
this guy influenced john bonham of led zeppelin. john was and is still the greatist drummer of all time.listen to both of the drummers' solos, john bonhams moby dick solos and others and appice has a solo in about every song. both solo sound about the same intrumental wise.
very cool solo..choppy & entertaining for the crowd....when i 1st saw this solo i hit me ..this style was very much an inspiration & influenced "tommy lee".....the kit setup-the 2china cymbals.. the crowd participation ..& this i a few yrs bfore motley crue..were big.......carmine is killer.
Boring me to tears. Wake me up when it's over.

And to think Ozzy fired Tommy Aldridge to go with Carmine. I like Carmine, but lets be real now. Aldridge was the drummer for Ozzy at the time.
