@BritishNathan I was talking about HD DVD vs Bluray. NOT normal DVD, please read before commenting next time. My comment below that was talking about how this isn't full 1080p.
@masterjazz09 The visual difference between HD DVD and Bluray was VERY small. It really came down to capacity which Bluray trumped HD DVD on. So HD DVD dropped out.
Remember everyone that YouTube doesn't do full 1080p. Most internet connections are WAY too slow. Bluray usually is around 25-50 megs per second while the average American only has 2ish megs a second. And DVD doesn't look as bad as this video portrays it to be.
yeah my hd dvd never look that bad theres no real diffrence any one between them trust me ps3 has proved this and proved that there games can look HORRIBLE cough heavenly sword cough and that blueray is not much diffrent than hd dvds
I wouldnt mind having a blue ray but idont even have a HD tv so what is the point, theres no point in buying a new hd tv cos the tv i got now works fine, its a widescreen sony trinitron 32"
@satanpcgamer Well, I have 2 Playstation 3 (1 has yellow light of death) and my computer supports Blu-Ray, but I do not have software for that. PS3 cost in Finland about 300 Euros
Esto lo hiciste con el photoshop, hay una opción que es para poner mas nitides y menos nitides o mas borroso o menos borroso. Algo así. Yo tengo un televisor sony full hd y se ve mucho mejor que tus fotos.
I would actuially say that this would only look this great with a combination of bluray AND HD TV. My DVDs have very good quality. The TV can make it looks like shit.
a blu ray player is worth buying because it will upscale your regular dvds picture and it looks a lot better so your dvd collection wont go to waste. Their are some movies like avatar and star trek i want on blu ray but until the prices drop to about the same as dvds i will still buy mostly dvds to save money.
I`ll be sticking with upscaled dvd`s. Blu-Ray is better but not enough to justify the extra cost. My Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 do a great job of making my dvd`s look superb.
@gearsfan666 No amount of upscaling will make MPEG-2 compressed video look better. There are just too many artifacts, like blocky backgrounds during darks scenes, that can't be changed by being upscaled. The first time I'd seen The Matrix on DVD, the blocky dark backgrounds were a turn-off. It looks so much better on Blu-Ray. It's not just the resolution that is inferior on DVD. The color range on Blu-Ray is way beyond anything you can get from a compressed DVD.
@Gamevet It`s been only one week since I made that comment and I`ve already changed my mind! I finally got to see what blu-ray could do yesterday when I watched "Aliens" (the James Cameron film) and I have to say it was amazing. Everything about the picture quality goes far beyond what I`m used to on DVD. I can now honestly say I`ve converted to blu-ray and will probably never buy DVD again!
I wouldn't buy a blue-ray Dragon Ball Z. I visited their website the picture is old color not better than the dvd color. I like old anime color but this is blue-ray. At less make the color better.
@seang1979 Blu-Ray is worth buying. Blu-Ray is not replacing DVDs. Blu-Ray is just in better quality (image and sound), more space on disc and scratch preventing.
The problem with new formats right now is that until much larger screens become the norm (I'm talking 20-25 foot tall screen tvs) your going to be looking at the highest possible quality for home entertainment. With the economy the way it is here in the states at the moment, I don't see anyone upgrading any further than what they have at the moment. I think it's safe to say that blu-ray is here to stay for quite a while.
Try playing a dvd on ur computer when its in full hd and it looks terrible yet play on tv and its fine. computers make it look terrible so full hd on comp and tv is good improvement but dvds arent as bad on tv as on computer.
i dont think dvd is that blurry? the dvd examples r bad? i have most of those movie in dvd and they r clearer then this? not as much as a blue ray but not this bad??
Horrible, horrible grammar, but deadncryin is correct in one respect, and that is in saying the DVD "comparisons" are extremely blurry. Blu-ray is indeed better, but the difference shown here is far from accurate.

It isn't a big difference in picture quality.
I think you must use a video projector to compare it, to see really the big difference or else
buying a bluray player is useless on this comparison, IMO
