All fencing materials can be potentially harmful to our horses. Unfortunately paddock accidents do happen and will always happen . I have seen horses living with rusty old wire laying in their paddocks with never an injury and have seen the opposite with immaculate fences and clean paddocks and horses with terrible injuries and death as a result .Horses will always be flight animals and hence will always be prone to fence related injuries.

farms for hundred years have used barbed wire i have it all the way around my proprity only city slickers with horses for joy riding wine about stuff like this and yes if a horse runs into any metalic wire at full speed it will cut the livin crap out of it i have seen horses get hurt on all kinds of things its life. including running into a tree at full speed should we cut down all of them to?stop whining about everything in life people good video and it is rare to get this on film.

The field my friends horse is in at the mintue has barbred wire and his whole chest is cut to pieces. but bak in the yard we have lectrical fences becaus the horses keep eating the goats ood =L

barbed wire can hurt a horse, sometimes very badly, however horses are typicaly smart enoughf to stay away from the fence. interesting video here, i'm sure this happens all the time where i live except we don't see it going on.

Get rid of that fence! Or at least use better materials. I;ve seen the SPCA have to remove it out of a horse that got tanlged for ten minutes, and it did major damage. Horses can't always see things like that.

wow, that must have been some strong electric fence. I was at my uncles farm and i was all up touching the fence. My uncle was yelling at me that it was electric. I only felt a little tingle..... the current must not have been very strong

Barbed wire won't hurt the horses, at the stable here there is an electeric wire fence on every pasture, the only thing that got hurt was my dad & one realy big horse that could take the tiny shock, *Kryptonite is fine, he just went prancing off as pretty as a dressage horse*

have u ever seen a horse run threw a barbed wire fence? no probably not. barbed wire is dangerous for all animals. ive seen a horse at a hack stable run threw a barbed wire fence and get wrapped in it. the poor thing had huge inch deep wounds all around his neck. so yes barbed wire can injure if not kill horses.

barbed wire works fine, its more the horses seeing it that puts them off, they generally will only break the wire if they are scratching themselves against it and it snaps

I concur i've had horses most of my life, I've used barbed fence on a 100 acre property and I've never experieneced a problem, or injury.

P.S Anyone ever grab an electric fence? Gets the heart pumping!!!!

@ponyliscous Actually, my horses have been living in barbed wire fencing for 10 years and have never sustained injuries from them. If your horse is a prone to getting injured, then yes, change your fencing. But, some horses are perfectly fine with living with barbed wire fencing.

@ponyliscous sometimes you put fences in that you can afford and when it needs to be done quickly. and in any type of fencing, you need to walk the horse around the perimeter and show them that the fence is there. my horse has crawled through and never hurt himself.

I used to work out in the mountains and this one time I was in a 7 ft tall fenced area...as I was doing some research I heard a big thump. I walked around the corner and there was this deer about 5'8" tall. Luckily it didn't charge me, but it was an amazing sight.

Ugh, second other comment about horses and barb wire. Seen lovely horses scarred for life. And the deer leaps are pretty common, those suckers can sail over some of hte highest fences to get at your lettuce!

I have seen deer jump high fences before. I have also seen them flatten out and glide between barbed wire strands while running full speed. They are amazing animals.
