@WereHungryFilms I first started off doing it with treats. You hold a treat in your fist so the dog can't get to it. As it tries to get the treat (which they won't be able to) while you say leave it. Once it realizes it can't get to the treat, it will stop going for the treat and just look at you. Once it has stopped going for the treat, open your hand and say "ok" or whatever you release command is.
I never go for the toy because if I do she sees it as a game and doesn't focus. :)
My Bordie Collie loves to get the toy bring it back but wont drop the toy... any suggestions? I want him to release the toy not fight him for it.

how do you teach it to leave it. if they get up do you go after the toy?

how old is hershey? very smart dog. my border collie is supposed to be born on thanksgiving. wish me luck.

she is at that point about a 1 1/2 maybe. I hope your puppy is born succesfully so you can have an amazing border collie!

thats great! they are so smart! just make sure it the first command you train them is to come, EVERY TIME!!!!
