Two clues...the use of the phrase "I don't recall" is standard issue plausible deniability for politicians (its as if they are taught to say this by their handlers)and Cheney always uses the "I haven't heard this story" when he's been caught off guard (see his other interviews).

he abruptly shifts in his seat, then looks

away, as he tells the lie about "not recalling"

whether he ordered the ashcroft hospital visit.
